His role in the second Dirty Harry film, Magnum Force, cemented the fact that Harry's partners were usually doomed, or they have a very unlucky future. This was followed by Tyne Daly in The Enforcer and Albert Popwell in Sudden Impact. It began in the first film, when Harry's partner Reni Santoni is badly injured, and is something that is brought up to all of Harry's partners.
