Matthew Perry, the actor known for playing Chandler Bing on the hit NBC sitcom “Friends,” has died. He was 54.

Perry was found dead Saturday in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home, law enforcement sources told the Los Angeles Times. Authorities found him unresponsive around 4 p.m., and there was no signs of foul play or drugs on the scene.

Perry gained international recognition for his role as the wry, fast-on-his-feet twentysomething Chandler on “Friends,” which ran for 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004. He earned a Primetime Emmy nomination in 2002 for his performance on the iconic sitcom. Among the six stars in the “Friends” ensemble, Perry was ambitious as a performer and a producer, but he also grappled with a long struggle with substance abuse that stunted his career. The 54-year-old Friends star took to Instagram on October 15 to share a heartfelt photo alongside his dad, John Bennett Perry. “Here is me, and my father John, both holding a beverage,” Perry wrote in the post’s caption. In the photo, the Friends star and his 82-year-old father stood side by side, smiling as they sipped from clear glasses. This upload marked Perry’s second post since April. Upcoming movie The Whole Banana may feature elements of ancient Greek mythology but, as the whimsical title suggests, it's far removed from any of the other recent productions that have clashed their immortal titans on the big screen.

Instead of a gritty action film with furious gods and fire-spewing fiends locked in deadly battle, you will find a heartwarming tale of charm and humour that promises to show us what it means to be human.

Filming is under way in Los Angeles on the romantic comedy, whose all-star cast of movie and TV favourites includes Kevin Sorbo (Hercules) and Kristy Swanson (Buffy), with large cameo roles from Matthew Perry (Friends) and Dean Cain (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman). In The Whole Banana, A Greek god (Kevin Sorbo) helps a struggling artist (Kristy Swanson) with her lagging love life. Dominique Swain plays Swanson.s best friend and confidant and Stelio Savante portrays Swain.s long suffering husband. Matthew Perry will play Apollo, brother to Sorbo.s Hermes. Clint Howard (The Dilemma, How The Grinch Stole Christmas) and Sienna Guillory (Resident Evil) play Fran.s fellow nicotine anonymous addicts. Greek mythology is an inspiration for many big-screen productions at present.

Resident Evil star Sienna Guillory, John Savage and Clint Howard have been announced as joining the cast of romantic comedy The Whole Banana.

Sienna's known for playing Jill Valentine in the Resident Evil adaptations Apocalypse and Afterlife as well as the upcoming fifth film Resident Evil: Retribution. She's also had roles in Love Actually and The Time Machine remake.

Savage was in The Deer Hunter and The Godfather: Part III and has also appeared in TV shows including Fringe, Carnivale, Dark Angel, Star Trek: Voyager and The X Files.

Howard's credits include Grand Theft Auto, Cocoon, The Rocketeer, Apollo 13, Austin Powers and The Dilemma.

Frances O'Connor has inked a deal that will put her between the Perrys -- Matthew Perry and his father John Bennett Perry -- in Franchise Pictures' The Beginning of Wisdom for director William Dear. The movie will shoot in Vancouver. Penned by T.J. Lynch, the story is set during the Vietnam War and centers on a recently widowed rancher John Bennett Perry) who falls for a beautiful hippie (O'Connor), who has been hired by his son (Matthew Perry) to take care of him and his ranch. O'Connor is repped by CAA and management firm the Bauer Co. She recently finished filming The Lazarus Child opposite Andy Garcia and Angela Bassett and will appear next in Timeline for Paramount Pictures and Iron Jawed Angels for HBO.
