While the home featured in the 1982 classic Poltergeist (watch it Here) sits on the market, looking for a buyer with more than $1 million to spare, Amazon MGM Studios is moving forward with the Poltergeist TV series we first heard about back in October of last year. Variety reports that the in-development project has just found the duo that will serve as the show’s writers, showrunners, and executive producers: Kalinda Vazquez and Robbie Thompson.
Variety notes that Vazquez has previously worked on the shows Fear the Walking Dead, Star Trek: Discovery, Once Upon a Time, Prison Break, and Nikita. She has also written for Marvel Comics, teaming up with Carlos Gomez for the comic book series America Chavez: Made in the USA. As for Thompson, he was a writer and co-executive producer on Supernatural and was also creator and showrunner of the prequel series The Winchesters. He has Marvel Comics experience of his own,...

Last year, Amazon closed an $8.5 billion acquisition of the film studio MGM, giving them ownership of the studio’s thousands of films and TV shows. Earlier this year, we heard that Poltergeist was one of the six MGM properties Amazon was most interested in doing something with… and now Variety has discovered that a Poltergeist TV series is in early development at Amazon MGM Studios! There are no plot details to share at this time, but Variety has been told “the show will be set within the world of the film”.
Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey are set to executive produce the series for Amblin Television.
Tobe Hooper, who had previously made The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Eaten Alive, Salem’s Lot, and The Funhouse, directed Poltergeist from a screenplay Steven Spielberg wrote with Michael Grais and Mark Victor. Spielberg also crafted the initial story. The film has the following synopsis: Strange...

August 22nd marked the 37th anniversary of the release director Tobe Hooper‘s sequel to his 1974 classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. A sequel appropriately titled The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (get it Here). Many fans celebrated the film with star Bill Moseley on social media – and the occasion inspired Moseley to reminisce about the moment when he ad-libbed one of the most popular lines in the film: “Lick my plate, you dog dick!”
In The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Moseley played the maniacal goofball Chop Top, who is revealed to have had a metal plate placed in his head after he received a head wound during the Vietnam War. He wrote on Facebook, “Damn, a whole lotta love for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 yesterday on the occasion of its 37th birthday! Love the movie, love the memories, love Chop Top! Funny, I’ve done so many different characters over the years,...

From "Halloween" to "A Nightmare on Elm Street," there's no shortage of iconic horror movies from the '70s and '80s that launched long-running franchises. Still, "Poltergeist" stands out among the rest because of its cult following - and many of those fans believe the Poltergeist franchise is actually cursed.
A reboot of the classic 1982 horror film "Poltergeist" came out in 2015, but let's be honest: nothing could compare to the original. While no horrific accidents occurred on the set of the most recent movie, there are plenty of rumors of a curse on the original film trilogy's cast.
The movie revolves around a suburban family who moves into a new home and begins to notice strange things involving their 5-year-old daughter, Carol Ann. Turns out, menacing spirits are haunting the house, and while their interactions seem harmless at first, their true evil nature is soon revealed when Carol Ann goes missing,...

Here you have another Scream Factory title, which will be judged a little harsher than usual. MGM recently released its own Blu-ray version of Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, and for the most part, it was just fine. In addition to the MGM Region A release, there was also an Arrow Video-released Region B Blu-ray, which most fans have considered the “definitive edition” until now. I have nothing but respect for Arrow Video. They are basically the Criterion of B-movies right now. But I think this new TCM Blu-ray may just trump their excellent release, at least ever-so-slightly in the Pq department. As for the movie itself, I’m a big fan, always have been. I know it’s a divisive title among fans because it abandoned the relentlessly terrifying tone of the first movie, and opted for a more humorous approach, but it’s utterly fascinating. That opening scene is...

This third week of April has some exciting home entertainment offerings for us genre fans, including the special edition releases of two cult classics I adore, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 and The Stuff. An indie film I’ve been hearing about for a while now, Grimewave, also makes its way to DVD this Tuesday and while it may not be traditional horror, Oscar-winner The Revenant certainly has enough badassery contained within its cinematic frames to be worthy of mentioning this week, and it arrives on both Blu-ray and DVD on April 19th.
Other notable releases this week include Smothered (which features a ton of horror icons and was directed by John Schneider of Smallville and Dukes of Hazzard fame), 15 Till Midnight, Classroom 6, Ip Man 3, German Angst and She Wolf Rising.

Any number of famous horror movies are supposed to have had a curse that plagued their cast and crew both during the shoot and subsequently. The Exorcist is one; Poltergeist is another. And the latter is now set to be the subject of a documentary. Producer and director Adam Ripp is putting together The Curse Of Poltergeist, taking the life and experiences of actor Oliver Robins as its starting point and main focus. What's the supposed curse? A number of deaths, basically. Actress Heather O'Rourke - the trilogy's cute Carol-Anne - died suddenly at the tragically young age of 12, just before the release of Poltergeist 3. Dominique Dunne, who played Dana, was killed by her boyfriend in 1982, not long after the first film. Bit-part player Lou Perryman was the victim of an axe murder in 2009. Will Sampson died two years after appearing in Poltergeist II. And Julian Beck - Poltergeist II...

Butcher Boys is the new film written and produced by Kim Henkel, best known as the scribe behind the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It revolves around a group known as the Bone Boys, a vicious gang that runs the streets and deals in human flesh as if it were drugs. A young woman and her friends are selected at random to be on the menu, and insanity ensues.
We spoke with Henkel about how Butcher Boys is an evolution of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the taboo of cannibalism, and his upcoming documentary.
Where did the idea for Butcher Boys come from?
Jonathan Swift’s “A Modest Proposal” was a major inspiration. [“A Modest Proposal” was a satirical essay written in 1729 which suggested that poor parents sell their babies as food for the wealthy.] What I posited was that, some time after writing “A Modest Proposal,” a group of individuals decided to put it into effect for whatever reason, and the Bone Boys are an extension of those individuals.

“After a decade of silence… the buzz is back!”
It’s surprising that it took as long as it did, but The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 didn’t arrive in theaters until a good 12 years after the original. At the helm once again was director Tobe Hooper, but this time screenwriting duties went to L.M. Kit Carson whose prior credits included Breathless and Paris, Texas. And because of the fast paced nature of the shoot which went into production almost immediately after being green-lit, Carson was on-set rewriting the entire time, in particular when at the last minute, a million dollars from the budget was cut forcing the filmmakers to implement changes while shooting and to make due with whatever they had.
You wouldn’t be able to tell any production problems with the finished product which at this point only gets better with age. The official sequel to Texas...

Horror fanatics are still buzzing like chainsaws over the Academy Awards’ genre montage. Anywhere there could be a conversation about it online, there was one. Many were upset over the Twilight ‘tweens’ participation, as if their mere presence sent a message about the state of scary in Hollyweird, USA.
A few seemed happy, though, to just get a glimpse of their beloved Evil Dead and Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 if only for a few seconds. But many called the selections generic and thoughtless, demanding the likes of Demons and TerrorVision instead (well, maybe not TerrorVision; that was just me).
How about Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer? Re-Animator? It’s Alive? Tombs of the Blind Dead? Coffin Joe? No list is perfect, but with a bit more care and a phone call to any one of us, the Oscars could have elevated that section into a real scream. Or maybe they...

From the amount of genre news that's filtered through the site these past seven days, it's tempting to ask, "What recession?" But except for a very few high profile films, the majority of the projects currently in various stages of production are quite modest, whether they are indies or studio funded. And lucky for us, some sound quite promising. Which are the five that stood out during the week of March 29-April 4, 2009?

Details have come to light on-line about the tragic murder of actor Lou Perryman, who played radio station worker L.G. McPeters in Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. Perryman was found murdered in his South Austin, TX home, and a suspect is in custody.
According to Txcn.com, the body of the 67-year-old Perryman was discovered in his home yesterday, and that the alleged perpetrator is 26-year-old Seth Tatum, who is already under arrest and facing charges in a separate attack on another man this past Wednesday. Tatum had reportedly been released from prison just three days before that assault. An earlier report on the murder at MyFOXaustin.com revealed that Tatum led detectives to the scene after turning himself in at the Travis County Courthouse.

Lou Perryman, perhaps best known to fans as "L.G." from Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, was found dead by police in his South Austin home after being tipped off to the crime by the suspect himself.
It's always terrible to lose someone. This case is made even more tragic in that Lou was taken from his friends and family before his time. Those that knew him personally regarded him as a loving and happy person, and his Facebook page has quickly filled up with condolences and farewells.
His daughter Jennifer updated his Facebook status with this message:
"This is Lou's daughter, Jennifer. My Dad died on Wednesday, April 1. He was a wonderful man and was so happy to have you all in his life. He was blessed."
