American actress Jorja Fox did some minor roles here and there when she got her much needed break in the industry with ER. In this, she played the recurring role of Dr. Maggie Doyle and quickly gained popularity. While she continued to pick up roles, it was the CBS police procedural drama CSI that earned her a strong fan base. She played the intelligent Sara Sidle in this and had amazing chemistry with William Petersen’s Gil Grissom.

However, not everything on set was as smooth as it looked. Things escalated to such an extent that she was ultimately fired from the show alongside her fellow co-star George Eads.

Wang Chung had no idea John Mulaney’s six-episode Netflix talk show “Everybody’s in LA” would use their 1985 song “To Live and Die in L.A.” as its theme song — but they’re thrilled he did.
“It’s a total surprise that it’s blown up in the way that it has,” says Wang Chung lead singer Jack Hues, who first heard of the usage on “Everybody’s in LA” via “the guy who does our merch.”
For guitarist Nick Feldman, the other half of the duo, he was already a big Mulaney fan when he got the news that “To Live and Die in L.A.” was suddenly getting a new breath of life on Netflix. “It’s so nice to see it get used in such a cool way,” he says. “The way it’s placed into the show — which I’ve watched a couple of episodes and I...

Max is in danger, and Chris is unconscious.
For a series on its last episode after a recent cancellation order, CSI: Vegas threw viewers straight into the action from the opening scene.
As fans say goodbye to the CSI team we've grown fond of for the last three years, CSI: Vegas Season 3 Episode 10 gave fans a conflicting farewell.
The revolving theme for this season has been the AI robots. Max still has Ocho in her lab from CSI: Vegas Season 3 Episode 5, "It Was Automation."
So, naturally, everyone believed the bad guy they were after was the company's founder, Truman Thomas.
But on the last episode of the series, fans got the best misdirect we've seen in a while.
'Cause the bad guy was dead and, in fact, innocent all along. He was just a pawn in the wheel of a bigger plan.

When CBS announced it was canceling CSI: Vegas, it didn’t warn the showrunners. This means that fans won’t be happy when watching the season finale, knowing the show is ending. One of the show’s stars said “major cliffhangers” are in the finale that will never be resolved.
Here is what fans can expect from the CSI: Vegas finale.
CSI: Vegas To End With Unanswered Questions
When CSI: Vegas returned to TV, three of the show’s original stars returned. William Petersen (Gil Grissom) and Jorja Fox (Sara Sidle) returned to CSI as did former police detective Jim Brass (Paul Guilfoyle). However, they left after one season and the hope was that fans would latch onto the new cast. The series brought back Marg Helgenberger to reprise her role as Catherin Willows in the second and third seasons to fill the gap.

The CSI franchise’s return to CBS is coming to an end as CBS on Friday opted not to renew CSI: Vegas for a fourth season.
On Saturday, CSI and CSI: Vegas star Marg Helgenberger who played Catherine Willows for 14 seasons across the original series and the followup, reflected on the cancellation.
“Each & every person involved with the making of this series brought their A game each & every day,” Helgenberger wrote on Instagram next to an on-set photo of the cast. “It was truly a pleasure & honor to work/play alongside such a fun & talented company of story tellers. Immeasurable thanks & gratitude to all for making this experience such a memorable ride. And to all the fans; we did it all for you.”
Lex Medlin, who, like Helgenberger, joined CSI: Vegas as a series regular in Season 2, posted a similar behind-the-scenes cast photo on Ig with a note to fans about the cancellation.

Both “So Help Me Todd” and “CSI: Vegas” have been canceled at CBS, Variety has learned.
“So Help Me Todd” is currently airing its second season at the broadcaster, while “CSI: Vegas” is airing its third. Both shows are scheduled to air their season finales in May, which will now serve as series finales.
The two shows were some of the few CBS shows awaiting words on their fates for next season. The only other CBS shows with pending renewal statuses are “The Equalizer” and “NCIS: Hawai’i.” They are both solid performers, with “So Help Me Todd” averaging 7.7 million viewers an episode in multiplatform Live+35 and “CSI: Vegas” averaging 7.6 million. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, CBS simply did not have enough room on the schedule to bring them back.
In addition to its many previously announced renewals, CBS already has a number of new shows set to debut next season.

CBS has canceled CSI: Vegas after three seasons and So Help Me Todd after two. The news is not surprising as Deadline revealed earlier this week that both dramas were heavily on the bubble and in grave danger.
That despite CSI: Vegas and So Help Me Todd being solid ratings performers. With the entire CBS schedule doing well this season and three new drama series joining in 2024-25, NCIS: Origins, Matlock and Watson (in addition to a second season of the Australian NCIS: Sydney), the network was faced with painful decisions, and So Help Me Todd and CSI: Vegas are the least watched CBS drama series this spring in both linear and multi-platform ratings.
In most current linear Nielsen viewership (2/12 to date), CSI: Vegas, which improved its time period, is at #21 among all non-sports broadcast programs with 6.234M viewers and So Help Me Todd at #22 with 6.224M. That is more...

Here’s what we know about Longlegs so far. It’s coming in July of 2024, it’s directed by Osgood Perkins (The Blackcoat’s Daughter), and it features Maika Monroe (It Follows) as an FBI agent who discovers a personal connection between her and a serial killer who has ties to the occult. We know that the serial killer is going to be played by none other than Nicolas Cage and that the marketing has been nothing short of cryptic excellence up to this point.
At the very least, we can assume Neon’s upcoming film is going to be a dark, horror-fueled hunt for a serial killer. With that in mind, let’s take a look at five disturbing serial killers-versus-law-enforcement stories to get us even more jacked up for Longlegs.

Prior to his Academy Award-nominated performance in Martin Scorsese’s The Departed, Mark Wahlberg, 52, was better known for his music career as ‘Marky Mark’. It turns out, though, that his past nearly kept him from being cast in the psychological thriller Fear (1996).
As it happens, Leonardo DiCaprio was considered for the role of David McCall, but the casting director felt he was not a choice for the part. Rather, he made a favorable impression on director James Foley on behalf of Wahlberg, with whom he co-starred on The Basketball Diaries. Later on, the two collaborated on The Departed.

As attention turns to the Oscars around this time every year, it’s easy to get caught up remembering some of the big winners. One of the most notable champs was The Silence of the Lambs, which took home the “Big Five” awards in 1992: Best Picture, Best Actor (Anthony Hopkins), Best Actress (Jodie Foster), Best Director (Jonathan Demme), and Best Adapted Screenplay (Ted Tally), as well as Best Sound Mixing and Best Film Editing to round it out.
And despite owning the film rights to works of author Thomas Harris, super-producer Dino De Laurentiis saw none of that windfall, be it Oscar gold or box office riches. Let me give you my thoughts about love. I tend to side with famous Irish poet Oscar Wilde, when he says, “Never love anyone who treats you like you’re ordinary.” This is the basis for any successful relationship between lovers, most importantly during the honeymoon phase. Love sure makes us do crazy things for the people we care for most. But what is that limitation of crazy? And how far can it get before the significant others realizes this and wants to cut the cord for good? Sadly, cutting the cord may mean dire consequences for those that wish to end it. Let’s put that to the test and revisit two star-crossed lovers which is something out of any teenage girl’s dreams. But what if that dream soon warps into a twisted tale of horrific obsession, stalking, and manipulation? We’re talking about 1996’s Fear which is...

When he died this summer, a lot of director William Friedkin’s movies got new life as film fans dug into this filmography. Looking over his body of work, one of the interesting things to note is that he directed four films that could justifiably be called masterpieces, but only two of them were successful. There was The French Connection and The Exorcist, both of which raked in huge box office and are considered classics. But, there were also two flops that he made that are just as good as those films, one of which is 1977’s Sorcerer, and the other is 1985’s Secret Service thriller To Live and Die in L.A., which we’re digging into in this episode of Wtf Happened to This Movie.

Howdy pardners! Today, we’re galloping back to 1988, when Christopher Cain and a band of rootin’ tootin’ outlaws shot up the silver screen for the American Western action film Young Guns. Presented as a retelling of the adventures of Billy the Kid during the Lincoln Couty War, Young Gun features a murderers’ row of talent, including Emilio Estevez, Kiefer Sutherland, Lou Diamond Phillips, Charlie Sheen, Dermot Mulroney, Casey Siemaszko, Terence Stamp, Jack Palance, and Terry O’Quinn.
Cain directs from a script by John Fusco. Young Guns revolves around a group of young gunmen, led by Billy the Kid, who become deputies to avenge the murder of the rancher who became their benefactor. However, when Billy takes their authority too far, they become the hunted.
Historian Paul Hutton once called Young Guns the most historically accurate of all films focusing on the dirty deeds of Billy the Kid as of its year of release.

William Friedkin was an inherently well-informed filmmaker. He started out in television at age 18, directing live news reports and documentaries for WGN-tv in Chicago. He knew how to get to the bottom of any story, best frame the narrative to capture attention, and inform the viewer.
He brought that sense of assured knowledge to movies. There is never any doubt about the veracity of The French Connection (1971). The Exorcist (1973), meanwhile, invites the audience to medical diagnoses and a realistic portrayal of demonic possession. It is the emphasis on the medical that makes the demonic seem plausible. Similarly, To Live and Die in L.A. (1985) is an authentic movie about counterfeiting, and one which deserves to be as celebrated as his early ‘70s masterpieces.

William Petersen was a theater actor from Chicago when William Friedkin changed the course of his life. In 1984, the Oscar-winning director tapped the then-unknown performer to play Richard Chance, a Secret Service agent willing to bend rules and break laws in order to capture a shadowy counterfeiter (Willem Dafoe) in “To Live and Die in L.A.” The crime thriller was a return to form for Friedkin, who had summited the heights of the movie business with “The French Connection” and “The Exorcist,” only to suffer a string of disappointments. Petersen and Friedkin would later collaborate on a Showtime remake of “12 Angry Men” and two episodes of “CSI.” Friedkin died on Aug. 7 at the age of 87, and Petersen shared his reflections on his “greatest mentor and most brilliant friend.”

William Friedkin, the Oscar-winning director behind The Exorcist, The French Connection, To Live and Die in L.A., The Boys in the Band, and more, is dead at 87. Friedkin died in Los Angeles, said his wife, former producer and studio head Sherry Lansing.
Born on August 29, 1935, in Chicago, Friedkin started directing television before disgusting audiences with projectile pea soup and dealings with demons. In the mid-’60s, Friedkin shot an episode of Alfred Hitchcock Hour and helmed various telefilms. Before the era was over, he got behind the camera for features like Good Times (1967), The Birthday Party (1968), and The Night They Raided Minsky’s (1968).
He started the ’70s off with a band by directing The Boys in the Band. With his name already on the lips of executives everywhere, he moved on to The French Connection, a show-stopping thriller starring Gene Hackman as Detective Popeye Doyle. The French Connection won multiple Oscars,...

When you think of 1980s action movies, visions of steroidal juggernauts like Schwarzenegger and Stallone are likely to spring to mind, but there was always another, if less numerous, stream running through their midst: gritty, downbeat, and cynical films typically helmed by New Hollywood stalwarts whose careers were in various stages of diminution. Among them were Hal Ashby’s strident, coke-fueled 8 Million Ways to Die, John Frankenheimer’s seamy extortion saga 52 Pickup, and William Friedkin’s To Live and Die in L.A., a neon-hued noir reworking of the morally ambiguous cops-versus-criminals terrain he had staked out a decade earlier in The French Connection.
Like Friedkin’s earlier film, To Live and Die in L.A. cannily blends quasi-documentary procedural realism with an unpredictable modernist sensibility. The story is succinct in its pulpy purity: loose-cannon Secret Service agent Chance (William Petersen) vows to take down elusive counterfeiter Rick Masters (Willem Dafoe), no matter the cost,...

Legend has it that Billy the Kid shot and killed 21 men; one for each year of his life. The legendary outlaw's own life was taken sometime after midnight on July 14, 1881, by the reformed lawman Pat Garrett in Fort Sumner, New Mexico. There is still speculation that Garrett, a longtime acquaintance of Billy's (whose birth name was Henry McCarty) never actually shot down his old friend and allowed him to escape in the dark of night.
Garrett was also accused of ambushing McCarty, which led to him hiring a ghost writer named Marshall Upton who detailed Garrett's version in "The Authentic Life of Billy, the Kid." The book has become a great historical reference, but at the time of its release in 1882, it failed to change the popular opinion that Garrett may have acted ungentlemanly the night Billy the Kid was slain.

The 1990 song "Blaze of Glory" from the "Young Guns II" soundtrack is impossible to resist. I feel pretty confident in saying that, when you read the title of that song, it began playing in your head. In fact, you'll be singing it for the rest of the day, and if anyone else is around, they'll join in with the harmony. Maybe you, like a young version of me, watched the video repeatedly, admiring ... the music. I didn't mean the exceedingly good-looking Jon Bon Jovi himself. Okay, that's a lie, but the song really is pretty great. There is a reason it's performed at every karaoke bar, including the fictional one in the afterlife in "The Good Place."
What you might not have realized about the song you cannot stop singing now that I've mentioned it, is that it was written over dinner with two stars of the 1990 sequel to 1988's "Young Guns.

Another familiar face is headed back to Sin City.
TV Line reported Thursday that Eric Szmanda has closed a deal to return to the CSI universe on an upcoming episode of CSI: Vegas Season 2.
The actor was a pivotal part of the original series, appearing on all 15 seasons when it aired on CBS.
Despite forging ahead with a largely new cast, CSI: Vegas has had some franchise mainstays to appease fans of the original series.
CSI: Vegas Season 1 had Jorja Fox and William Petersen, but they both decided to depart following the opening season of the reboot.
Petersen had a one-season deal, but there was the hope Fox would continue on as Gil Grissom's love interest Sara Sidle.
Fox felt it would be cruel to split up Gil and Sarah again, so announced after the series had been renewed that she would not be back.

Peacock has taken in for development Fear, a series based on the 1996 thriller film, from The Path creator Jessica Goldberg, Imagine Television and Universal TV, Deadline has confirmed.
Written by Goldberg, inspired by Imagine Entertainment’s 1996 cult classic film Fear, the modern series reinvention finds two young lovers in a psychological game of cat and mouse—but who’s the cat, and who’s the mouse? When David and Nicole first meet in Seattle, it feels like an epic, once-in-a-lifetime romance – but soon it becomes clear that the seemingly perfect couple is anything but. Told from conflicting points of view, the series wrestles with personal demons, hidden agendas and reframes the “he said she said” convention into a twist-filled suspense story about toxic relationships.
Goldberg executive produces with Imagine Television’s Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, Lilly Burns and Kristen Zolner. Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio.

CSI star Marg Helgenberger has returned to the show’s universe after 10 years – and viewers are overjoyed.
The original cast member, who plays Catherine Willows, recently signed a one-year deal to reprise the role in spin-off CSI: Vegas.
Helgenberger’s presence was very welcome considering the second season began without longtime stars William Petersen and Jorja Fox, who decided not to return for the spin-off’s follow-up.
During Catherine’s time away from the world of CSI, she retired to help mentor women in forensic science.
She explained the reason behind her return to fellow character Maxine (Paula Newsome), stating: “The job is in my blood.”
There appears to be more than meets the eye, though. It emerges that one of the girls Catherine was mentoring has gone missing.

After a decade-long absence from the world of yellow tape and bloody corpses, Marg Helgenberger reprised her role as Catherine Willows Thursday on CBS’ CSI: Vegas. It seems her character’s so-called “retirement” — which involved serving on the board of the Eclipse hotel and mentoring young women in forensic science — wasn’t that fulfilling, so the episode began with her asking Maxine (Paula Newsome) for her old gig back.
Fortunately, there were a couple of job openings since Gil (William Petersen) and Sara (Jorja Fox) were never replaced after leaving at the end of last season. Apparently, the Grissoms are currently on a boat in the Arctic circle but in real life, Petersen only signed for one year on CSI: Vegas while Fox chose not to return for a second season.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the CSI: Vegas Season 2 premiere “She’s Gone.”] Welcome back to the Vegas Crime Lab, Catherine Willows (Marg Helgenberger). It takes until the very end of the CSI: Vegas Season 2 premiere, but we do find out the personal reason she wants back in after she skirts Maxine Roby’s (Paula Newsome) questions earlier. Sonja Flemming/CBS And Max does ask why “one of the best to ever do” the job wants to come back when they sit down at the beginning of “She’s Gone.” But Catherine replies that when Max said: “the job is in my blood” in her toast at her retirement party, she had a point. She also points out that Max is shorthanded, as Gil mentioned. “Didn’t help that he stole his wife away and that one of my best is out in LA training with the FBI.” (Jorja Fox, who returned ...

Catherine Willows is back, and CSI: Vegas is the better for it.
CSI: Vegas Season 2 Episode 1 already marked another time of transition for this revival of the once-hit series.
William Peterson and Jorja Fox departed after one season, so Gil and Sara had to disappear.
Fortunately, despite her role on All Rise, Marg Helgenberger was amenable to a return to Las Vegas.
Let's face it. The revival can't yet stand on its own two feet. While the new team may appeal to fresh viewers, fans of the old series want to see the OGs they know and love.
Catherine was the favorite of many viewers. Gil was the aloof scientist; Catherine was the people person. She was the more accessible member of management.
There was a believable setup for Catherine's return.
The lab was short-handed after Gil and Sara's departures and Allie's absence for lengthy training in Los Angeles. Catherine...

With the news that Jorja Fox (Sara Sidle) and William Petersen (Gil Grissom) would not be returning for CSI: Vegas Season 2, there have been plenty of questions about how they will be written out.
Their arcs were seemingly complete at the end of CSI: Vegas Season 1, and TV Line premiered a new clip that highlights why they will not be seen on the second season.
The two characters are sailing somewhere around the Arctic Circle, according to CSI Joshua Folsom (Matt Lauria).
"They're on a boat above the Arctic Circle, so yeah, she probably dialled them up on a sat phone asking all about you, Chris," Joshua is heard saying in the clip to Chris (Jay Lee).
The aforementioned clip finds Chris wondering what the returning Catherine Willows (Marg Helgenberger) had to say about the new team.
However, it sounds like Catherine will be coming back to the team with...

Where in the world are Sara Sidle and Gil Grissom when Season 2 of CSI: Vegas opens up? TVLine’s exclusive sneak peek at the new season has the answer to that question.
Though both Jorja Fox and William Petersen reprised their original CSI roles in Season 1, the latter had only signed on for that initial 10-episode run (but stayed on as an executive producer). Fox subsequently announced that she would not continue on either, explaining, “I personally just can’t split Sara and Grissom up again…. Wherever they go, they belong together.”

Marg Helgenberger returns to the CSI franchise for the first time in seven years later this month.
Helgenberger returns as Catherine Willows for CSI: Vegas Season 2 in a one-year deal.
The star opened up about her big return to the universe Friday at CBS' TCA panel.
“I wanted to make sure there was a reason Catherine would come back to the job,” the actress said of returning to reporters.
“It’s a tough gig. Why would Catherine, at this age, come back? That was important to me."
"I had several conversations with [showrunner] Jason Tracey about that. I really want to get it right and we did," Helgenberger adds.
The star's deal keeps her back in the universe for one year, and she said she felt the love with the new cast instantly.
“I feel the respect toward me, I’m so grateful. It’s been a hell of a lot of fun working with everybody,...
