As Hallmark expands its footprint into unscripted programming, the idea for the network’s first reality series came from none other than Hallmark leading man Jonathan Bennett.
Bennett, who was a contestant on “Celebrity Big Brother” and “Dancing With the Stars” and served as a judge on “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” mixed his love for reality and being a Hallmark leading man with “Finding Mr. Christmas,” a competition series that invites Hallmark hopefuls to showcase their talents for the chance to be cast in a Hallmark holiday movie.
“All of my friends who are actors want to be in business with the Hallmark pop culture of it all — Every actor wants to be on the Hallmark Channel, or they’re lying,” Bennett, who also hosts “Finding Mr. Christmas,” told TheWrap. “I thought, what if we let the audience in on the process of finding the next Hallmark Christmas movie star — what...

As far as Jonathan Bennett is concerned, “there are two types of people in the world: people that watch Hallmark movies and liars,” the actor tells TVLine.
Bennett has starred in his fair share of those Hallmark movies, often taking part in major LGBTQ moments on the network, and now he’s passing the baton, so to speak. As the host and co-creator of Hallmark’s first reality competition series, Bennett is hoping to discover the network’s next holiday hunk in Finding Mr. Christmas (premiering Thursday, Oct. 31, exclusively on Hallmark+).

Happy’s Place Originally Reba Reboot?
The Reba cast is still very close and they are not shy about how they created a family in the six seasons they were on air. Country music star Reba McEntire is back on network television in a new comedy series called “Happy’s Place.” The sitcom, which premiered recently on NBC, sees McEntire reuniting with her former “Reba” co-star Melissa Peterman. “Happy’s Place” centers around Bobbie, played by McEntire, who inherits her late father’s tavern. She discovers she has a long-lost half-sister, and the two must now co-own the business.
This unexpected family dynamic sets the stage for conflict and character development in the series. The show also brings McEntire and Peterman back together on screen. Peterman plays Gabby, a bartender at Happy’s Place, reprising a dynamic similar to her role as Barbra Jean on “Reba.”
Some critics note similarities between the two characters, with concerns Gabby may also come across as ditzy. An anonymous industry source said comparing Gabby to Barbra Jean is “a major problem” that could cause the new series to live...

Reba McEntire had a successful run with her Reba sitcom, which aired for six seasons and 126 episodes. However, her follow-up comedy, Malibu Country, lasted just one season before being cancelled. How will her newest foray into comedy perform on NBC? Will Happy's Place be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned.
A traditional sitcom, the Happy’s Place TV series was created by Kevin Abbott and Julie Abbott. The comedy stars McEntire, Belissa Escobedo, Melissa Peterman, Pablo Castelblanco, Tokala Black Elk, and Rex Linn. In the story, Bobbie (McEntire) is a divorcée whose daughter is deployed in the military. She’s inherited her father’s neighborhood tavern, Happy’s Place, a business she’s been running for a decade. Bobbie’s surprised to discover she now has a new business partner, Isabella (Escobedo), a twenty-something half-sister she never knew she had. A...

If streamers are increasingly looking for shows with wide appeal — and they are — it stands to reason that TV networks’ best hope for success is making shows for audiences that aren’t just broad, but whose sensibilities are closer to hyper-normie. The few sitcoms that are even still being made to be broadcast over the air can’t be genre-straddling tone poems like The Bear: premise-wise, less is more. Happy’s Place fits the brief.
The show — which premieres on NBC today — should get extra credit for fitting nearly all its action on a single set: the titular Tennessee tavern. Happy, for whom said tavern was named, died just before the events of the series pilot, leaving the business to his daughter Bobbie (Reba McEntire), who’s already been running the place for many years. But her hopes for seamless continuity in the tavern’s management are scuttled when Happy...

Just over 15 years after “Reba” closed out its six-season run, “Happy’s Place” creator Kevin Abbott reunited with the sitcom’s team to explore a potential “Reba” reboot series.
“I had actually come up with where the characters were at, where their lives were at [and] what was going to be the dynamic was some new characters,” Abbott told TheWrap, noting that executives were initially “very interested” in the idea. However, he added that as time went by and the industry consolidated further, the reboot didn’t move forward “for various financial reasons and rights reasons,” per Abbott.
“I’d spent six months doing this thing and been working on it and Reba [McEntire] was like, ‘well, let’s just do another one … we’ll do something else. I was like, ‘I don’t have another one in my back pocket,'” Abbott recalled. “So I called my wife [Julie Abbott] to complain...

‘Happy’s Place’ Review: The Great Reba McEntire Deserves So Much Better Than This Generic NBC Sitcom
I’m not even a particularly huge Reba McEntire fan, but I know that we don’t deserve Reba McEntire. We, as a society, have not done anything to be worthy of somebody who was one of the all-time great country singers, then became one of the all-time great sitcom actors, then dabbled in being an all-time great award show host and reality show panelist. In her free time, I can only assume that Reba McEntire bowls regular 300 games, prepares a perfect Beef Wellington and has constructed an entirely Nazi-free social media site composed exclusively of substantive conversations and sparkling personalities.
So when I say that Reba McEntire’s new NBC series Happy’s Place is not worthy of Reba McEntire’s talents … well … get in line, Happy’s Place.
Let’s change the unreasonable parameters, then.
As bar-set NBC sitcoms go, Happy’s Place is no Cheers, in the two episodes sent to critics.
