J.P. Pitoc and Christian Campbell in Trick
Boy meets go-go boy and they try to find a place to hook-up…
That’s the basic premise of Trick, but if you’ve seen the beloved 1999 film, you know it’s actually a sweet and charming romantic comedy that has endured and is celebrating its fifteenth anniversary this year.
In the New York-based film, directed by Jim Fall and written by Jason Schafer, Gabriel (Christian Campbell) first sees go-go boy Mark (J.P. Pitoc) shaking it at a local gay bar, but a chance meeting on the subway later takes them on an all-night adventure that goes from a piano bar, Tori Spelling (who played Gabriel’s Bff, Katherine), a dance club and Gabriel’s memorable bathroom interaction with none other than Miss Coco Peru.
To commemorate the film, UCLA is hosting an Outfest Legacy screening this Saturday in Los Angeles along with a Q&A with Fall,...

(l-r) Jeff Ward, director Jim Fall and Claire Coffee during production of Holly's Holiday
It’s December, so if it means anything it’s that there are a slew of holiday-themed movies on our TVs this time of year. One of them, Lifetime’s Holly’s Holiday, comes to us from out director Jim Fall, who has brought us such fabulous films as Trick and Wedding Wars as well as Tori Spelling’s So NoTORIous series.
AfterElton sat down with the director to talk about how you put the gay in a Lifetime movie, his thoughts on the state of gay films and (gasp!) he spilled the beans to us about picking up with Christian Campbell and Jp Pitoc in a sequel to Trick.
AfterElton: Holiday films are so specific in a lot of ways but as a director do you approach them differently than you would another project?...

Brace yourselves. This list of the Top 100 Greatest Gay Movies is probably going to generate some howls of protest thanks to a rather major upset in the rankings. Frankly, one that surprised the hell out of us here at AfterElton.
But before we get to that, an introduction. A few weeks ago we asked AfterElton readers to submit up to ten of their favorite films by write-in vote. We conducted a similar poll several years ago, but a lot has happened culturally since then, and a number of worthy movies of gay interest have been released. We wanted to see how your list of favorites had changed.
We also wanted to expand our list to 100 from the top 50 we had done previously. We figured there were finally enough quality gay films to justify the expansion. And we wanted to break out gay documentaries onto their own list (You'll find the...

Channing Tatum, Matthew McConaughey, Alex Pettyfer, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, William Levi
As you've probably heard (we may have mentioned it a few times), Oscar winner Steven Soderbergh is preparing to film the Citizen Kane of beefcake films. No doubt, Magic Mike will be competing for Oscars this time next year.
Magic Mike is based on the early stripper life of actor Channing Tatum, who will star in the film alongside some of the most notable male specimens of this generation.
You may think that a film about stripping will be silly, and a walk in the park for these actors, but this is serious business. If there's one word that will never be used in conjunction with this movie, it's "fluff."
Oh wait. Actually, that word may play a role.
What I mean is that it's not going to be as simple as it looks. Stripping isn't only about taking your clothes off.

MattCanada here with another week of gay cinema. In many ways Trick is the perfect companion film to last week's entry My Best Friend's Wedding because it explores similar themes, the search for Mr. Right and the gay man-straight female friendship, but this time from the other perspective- that of the gay male
Trick is one of my favorite films of the nineties, and pretty much the perfect gay romantic comedy. At the core of the film is the relationship between struggling musical theatre writer Gabriel (Christian Campbell) and Go-Go Boy Mark (John Paul Pitoc), after a chance meeting on the subway. The dynamic between these two has a truthfulness to it and is thoroughly seducing. As they search the city for somewhere to hook up, what develops is sensitive and romantic. The believable grounding chemistry of Mark and Gabe allows for the excess of virtually everything surrounding them, especially...

Why aren’t there more good gay movies? We hear this complaint at AfterElton.com a lot, and we’ve even made it a few times ourselves (although we think the results of this poll prove that there are more good movies than many of us think!).
There are surely many reasons why more “mainstream” movies don’t include gay or bisexual themes, but no doubt one of them is heterosexual discomfort – not just discomfort on the part of audiences and network executives, but also discomfort on the part of critics and others to champion these films.
This is where our poll of AfterElton.com readers on the 50 Greatest Gay Movies comes in. We can think of no better way to encourage the creation of more good gay movies than to praise and support the existence of past good gay movies!
How does this list compare to our previous poll?...

Have a question about gay male entertainment? Ask the Monkey! (Please include your city and state and/or country.)
Q: Did I miss a meeting? When was it decided to change the commonly used reference “Glbt” to “Lgbt”? Every time I hear Lgbt used, it’s like the person slows down to deliberately not accidently say the long-used Glbt. -- Michael

A: It wasn’t a meeting; it was a memo. Check your inbox.
I’ve heard two theories on the acronym change: some say the change was deliberate, to give more prominence to lesbians who – let’s face it – are too often afforded second-class status in the Glbt community. Other people have told me that in certain parts of the country Lgbt has always been the accepted moniker, and the rest of us are just … wrong.
The Monkey is torn. On one hand,...

There will be another murder case to be solved on the next episode of "CSI: Miami". As revealed in a new preview of episode 7.09, a very cruel killer is on the loose in Miami and the team of Miami-Dade Police Department forensic scientists must solve a murder case before the suspect claims another victim.
Entitled "Power Trip", the episode reveals how the main character Horatio Caine, played by David Caruso, deals with murder cases of a savage killer who runs rampant in the city. At the same time, it also shows how Horatio must intervene to stop a member of the police force from getting too close to the case.
Recurring actor Boti Bliss will make another appearance on the "Power Trip" episode along with guest stars, Tanner Blaze and J.P. Pitoc. The episode 7.09 is scheduled to air on CBS network on November 24 at 10/9c.

Cheyenne Jackson joins 'Canvas'
NEW YORK -- Xanadu Broadway star Cheyenne Jackson is joining Scott Thompson, John Paul Pitoc, Gedde Watanabe, Matthew Montgomery and New York nightlife personalities in the bohemian drama Shifting the Canvas.
Openly gay actor Jackson will play Jens, a straight financial exec who works with a fellow Wall Streeter coming to terms with his sexuality. Chuck Griffith's film also delves into the relationships between a group of artists living in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn.
Photographer David LaChapelle's transsexual muse Amanda Lepore and gay rapper Cazwell (All Over Your Face) also appear in the feature, set to begin shooting June 1. Griffith's Roaring Leo Prods. is producing.
Jackson (United 93) is repped by Innovative and Benderspink.
