During a meeting commemorating the director’s centenary, actor Ranbir Kapoor shared personal stories about his grandfather, famed filmmaker Raj Kapoor.

Speaking with director Rahul Rawail, Kapoor paid a heartfelt homage to one of Indian cinema’s most significant artists. He remembered childhood memories of the famed filmmaker’s lighter side, such as Raj Kapoor gathering his grandchildren to sing the popular song “Awaara Hoon” from his 1951 film.

Beyond personal memories, Kapoor emphasized his grandfather’s dedication to social commentary. “If you watch ‘Awaara,’ it was based on casteism. ‘Shree 420’ was about greed and the impoverished,” he explained. This revelation demonstrated Raj Kapoor’s capacity to approach complicated social concerns through movies.

The discussion also underlined the filmmaker’s perseverance. Despite the commercial failure of “Mera Naam Joker” in 1970, which caused him financial hardship—even to the point of mortgaging his house—Raj Kapoor launched “Bobby” in 1973, starring entirely new talent.

Madhur Bhandarkar, who is here for the 72nd Cannes Film Festival, says Indian filmmakers need to create cinema focussing on real and "earthy" subjects to have visible representation at such platforms.

India has zero representation in terms of films at the competition categories of the Cannes Film Festival this year.

At the India Pavilion of the gala, Bhandarkar engaged in a conversation with filmmaker Rahul Rawail around the current state of Indian cinema and the way forward.

Bhandarkar, known for films like "Page 3", "Traffic Signal" and "Fashion", said: "It is unfortunate that there is no Indian cinema (here). They are looking for strong content... He (a festival official I met) told me the audience is very different here in Cannes, so they have to choose the best one.

Rishi Kapoor is yet to finish his course of treatment in New York, but he will be back in the country in some months, his brother Randhir Kapoor has said amid reports that the veteran actor is now "cancer free". "Rishi is doing much better. He has to finish his course of treatment, and will be back in India in the next few months," Randhir told Ians. Randhir was swamped with calls on Tuesday after filmmaker Rahul Rawail gave out a health update on Rishi on Facebook.

New Delhi, March 8: Director Rahul Rawail will mark his presence at Mr. & Miss South Asia 2014 pageant, to be held in Us Saturday in the hope of finding new faces for his upcoming film "Love Story Again".

The contest will take place at Silicon Valley in Northern California.

"We are here to tap the Indian diaspora and search for a talent to star in our forthcoming film. We thought it would be best to explore American soil to search for a desi girl and not limit ourselves to the Indian shores. We hope to finalise someone who will take India by storm in our much anticipated movie," Rawail said in a statement.

Mumbai, Nov 29: Actor Sunny Deol will go behind the camera as well as face it for "Ghayal Returns", a sequel to the 1990 revenge action drama "Ghayal". The film is likely to go on floors in February 2014.

Earlier, it was reported that Rahul Rawail would direct the project.

But now a source close to the actor told Ians: "Sunny will be directing 'Ghayal Returns' and it will not be the continuation of the old story, but the character of Amit Mehra (from the original) will be taken forward."

Filmmaker Rahul Rawail's son Bharat has been accused of beating up a senior lady named Janet Iyer, a resident of their building. The incident took place while the city celebrated the last day of Ganpati. Apparently, a spat broke out between one Janet Balachandran Iyer and producer-director Rahul Rawail and his family at Vaz Bungalow in Bandra. The unrest ended with an Fir being filed against Rahul, his wife and his son Bharat at the Bandra Police Station. Mumbai, Aug 30: Bollywood strong man Sunny Deol will soon be launching his son Karan Deol to show his power. Bollywood veteran Dharmendra has given two heroes Sunny and Bobby to the industry. Now, Garam Dharam is going to present his grandson to the film industry. Rocky, as Karan is known has already taken his Bollywood debut seriously and started preparing undergoing training in a school run by his dad's close friend Rahul Rawail. Incidentally Rahul is the one who introduced Sunny Deol in a romantic entertainer Betaab in 1983.

Sunny Deol, who is planning to revive his home banner Vijayta Films with Ghayal Returns, has roped in his good friend Rahul Rawail to direct the film.
