- On June 23, 2009, Ray was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. In April 2010, she announced that she was cancer-free, after a stem cell transplant. As multiple myeloma is an incurable disease, Ray is not completely cured of the disease.

- Was engaged to model Vishesh Uppal in 1993. He was a NRI from Australia who came to India to model and act.He was signed for Achha Anand (Dev Anand's nephew) film Shaksiyat. The film got shelves due to a fight he had with the producer . Next he signed Mrithunjaya opposite Tisca Chopra. That also got shelved. Vishesh was previously engaged to Deepti Bhatnagar and Madhuvanti (Sister of Bhagyashree).
- Lisa Ray was signed for the film Dus,but later replaced by Karishma Kapoor. Lisa's inability to speak Hindi was causing a problem. Karishma Kapoor later exited the film and Shilpa Shetty was signed.

- Starred in the shelved movie Jungle. This was to be Sanjay Dutt's debut film as producer, directed by Rahul Rawail. The film starred Sanjay Dutt, Lisa Ray (replaced by Tisca Chopra) in the female lead. Raveena Tandon was also offered the film. But the project didn't promise to fulfill Sanjay's expectations so in 1991, he canceled it. One of the reasons's were Lisa Ray unable to learn any Hindi.
