Lived with actress Barbara Payton in 1964 at the decrepit Wilcox Hotel in
Hollywood when both actors had hit rock bottom in their respective
careers and turned into raging drunks. She turned tricks to support the
two while they were holed up there. They broke up a short time later
and he left Hollywood and show business for good. He has been a
recovering alcoholic since 1976. Payton did not and died in 1967 of
liver cirrhosis.
