Almost a decade ago, Universal Pictures released the follow-up to the critically panned horror film, Ouija, which was met with rave reviews from critics thanks to Mike Flanagan's brilliance. Directed and co-written by Flanagan, Ouija: Origin of Evilserved as a prequel to its 2014 predecessor and was not only a critical success but also made waves at the box office. The hit movie was released in theaters on October 21, 2016, and years later has found a streaming home in the U.S., where fans can finally revisit it for free.
Ouija: Origin of Evil will begin streaming on Tubi on August 16, reminding fans of Flanagan’s remarkable work, which is regarded as a significant improvement over Ouija. The film starred Elizabeth Reaser, Lulu Wilson, and Annalise Basso as Alice, Doris, and Lina, making up the unfortunate Zander who encountered a menacing spirit summoned from a Ouija board. Henry Thomas, a frequent Flanagan collaborator,...

IP-based horror picture Ouija didn’t win over many critics upon release in 2014, but it slayed at the box office, returning more than $100 million globally on an estimated budget of $5 million. With returns like that, it’s no great surprise that we got a sequel two years later. What does come as a surprise, however, is how much better the second series installment is. Despite its status as the superior effort, Ouija: Origin of Evil doesn’t always seem to get the recognition it deserves. It’s as if the flick had its moment in the sun upon release and then faded into the background. That’s a shame considering it has real staying power. You don’t have to take my word for it, though. Ouija: Origin of Evil is presently streaming on Netflix, meaning you can experience the film for yourself and draw your own conclusions.

Written and directed by Nadia Conners, The Uninvited (2024) is an aching, existential ode to aging and ambitions, set in our golden age of utter hopelessness. It conveys that nagging feeling that no matter how hard you scream for things to get better, whether for yourself or the world, they might never be enough. However, it conveys that feeling through the trivial affairs of its privileged L.A. people, who work only in the hours they get paid. It presents this saddening transactionality of present relationships that you often cannot argue against since nearly everyone has been worried about an impending cataclysmic shift in the world. How will you survive through it if you don’t get paid?
‘The Uninvited’ conveys this dread through the conversations of its mainly 40-something characters, who led superfluous lives, whether by choice or for the lack of it. The film is jam-packed with insights into...

Welcome to Deadline’s International Disruptors, a feature where we shine a spotlight on key executives and companies outside of the U.S. shaking up the offshore marketplace. This week we’re talking to Rosie Fellner, who recently produced The Uninvited, a dark comedy starring Walton Goggins, Elizabeth Reaser, Pedro Pascal, Rufus Sewell and Lois Smith. The British producer talks about her career as a multihyphenate and why she’s passionate about supporting first-time filmmakers through her new shingle Rosebud Pictures.
Rosie Fellner loves a puzzle. “I love putting things together – I’m a doer and like the puzzle of putting financing together for projects I’m passionate about,” the UK native tells Deadline.
So, for Fellner, who began her career as an actor on cult British comedy TV series The Fast Show before taking roles in Michael Winterbottom’s The Trip, The Face of an Angel and, more recently,...

The Uninvited
Nadia Conners' comedic drama, The Uninvited, revolves around Rose (Elizabeth Reaser), a former actress and stay-at-home mom, and her husband Sammy (Walton Goggins), a talent agent. The film opens amid preparations for the party they are hosting in their Hollywood Hills home, where the couple, who are getting ready upstairs, exchange humorous and snide quips. When the elderly Helen (Lois Smith) turns up on their doorstep claiming she lives there, Rose triples her duties. She tries to play hostess, find out who Helen is and return her home safely, while trying to get her son to stay put in bed. Meanwhile, the arrival of the guests, including Gerald (Rufus Sewell) and Lucien (Pedro Pascal), brings with them enough drama to fill the night.

‘Write what you know’ goes the old adage, and Hollywood scribes have long dipped their sharp quills into the inky working methods and attitudes of their own industry. And it’s not about to stop anytime soon — as Hollywood continues to navigate the seismic changes of #MeToo, Black Lives Matter, streaming platforms, the pandemic and the SAG-AFTRA strike. And just as Seth Rogen’s Apple TV+ series The Studio gears up for its finale, we now have Nadia Conners’ heartfelt comedy-drama The Uninvited landing in cinemas to take its turn peering beyond the veneer.

Somewhere around the end of the first trimester of the year 2020, the entire world abruptly halted due to a pandemic. This sudden stop in our daily routines—professional, personal, or otherwise—offered a welcome respite, allowing us to take a moment to breathe deeply and reset, either to continue our regular lives or to change altogether. However, this worldwide catastrophe and the confinement it entailed also caused many struggles, both personal and interpersonal, as the interruption of every and all activity meant the termination of the human workforce who could no longer fulfill their responsibilities in the new home-office modality.
The arts also suffered because of this. Particularly those that require mass attendance, namely theater, film, and music concerts, causing production delays, postponing scheduled events, or simply resigning to seeing a project be totally scrapped regardless of how advanced it was in its making. Walton Goggins has been an icon in Hollywood for the past two decades, but there is one thing he has never done -- work with his wife. Goggins is married to filmmaker Nadia Conners, and the two finally come together on a new venture. The Fallout actor spoke to GamesRadar+ about the experience of making the comedy The Uninvited. Not to be confused with the horror movie of the same name, the film was inspired by a real occurrence at the couple’s home and has since been remolded for artistic and entertainment value. This undertaking was a change of pace for Goggins, as he told the outlet.
"To collaborate with your spouse, I had never done that before. I sought some counsel from other friends that are are regular collaborators with their significant other. And both Nadia and I are Scorpios, separated really by two days. You know, she's November.

An agent hosts a fancy soiree in the Hollywood Hills in this gently incisive drama about the privileged class, written and directed by Nadia Conners
As the sun goes down in the Hollywood Hills, talent agent Sammy (Walton Goggins) and his actor wife Rose (Elizabeth Reaser) prepare for a house party they are throwing. It’s pretty quickly apparent that, despite Sammy’s sudden lustful lunges at his wife and her tinkling laughter, there is plenty of backstory to be revealed behind the landscaped garden succulents. Sammy’s career is in trouble and he is worried about retaining his star client, megalomaniac director Gerald (Rufus Sewell). Rose is not getting cast much these days, and while she dotes on their only child Wilder (Roland Rubio), she misses her career. Up-and-coming star Delia (Eva De Dominici) is coming by for the evening, as is big-time movie star Lucien (Pedro Pascal), who...

The internet’s handsome dad has a very full diary at the moment, and it can be a struggle to keep up. Here’s what Pedro Pascal has upcoming
Pedro Pascal is one of Hollywood’s busiest stars at the moment, with eight films currently in pre-, mid- or post-production. We’re slightly worried whether he gets enough sleep. That’s before you consider his work on the TV side of things, leading the casts of both The Mandalorian and The Last Of Us – two of the biggest streaming hits of the last five years. In 2025 alone, Pascal is set to appear in four films and one TV show.
He’s also, we’re told, incredibly popular with certain segments of the internet. Putting our finest minds to work out a way to monetise this conundrum, we came up with a sure-fire method to overwhelm our servers with cold, hard clicks.

Timothée Chalamet has become a very big deal over the last decade or so. With two Academy Award nominations and an ever-expanding list of excellent movies under his belt, the actor has flaunted his talent in a vast array of roles that range from playing Bob Dylan in "A Complete Unknown" (2024) to starring as Paul Atreides in Denis Villeneuve's "Dune" movies and following Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp in portraying eccentric chocolatier Willy Wonka in "Wonka" (2023). That's a lot, especially from a young actor who seems destined to turn in great roles for many decades to come.
Any one of Chalamet's best movies is a great way for a movie fan to spend a couple of hours glued to their seat. However, few prolific actors can maintain a perfect win record throughout their career, and even one as wildly successful as Chalamet has a few less than beloved films in his CV.

The latest blockbuster on the block, A Minecraft Movie, will likely top the box office charts in its sophomore weekend after delivering record numbers in its debut frame. It'll compete against a handful of new releases, including the spy thriller The Amateur, the war movie Warfare, and the horror film Drop. But did you know that there is another film debuting theatrically this week; one starring perhaps the two hottest male actors right now? The Uninvited, a comedy-drama that premiered at the South By Southwest Festival last year, features Pedro Pascaland Walton Goggins as part of its ensemble cast. The movie will receive a limited release on Friday.
What also sets The Uninvited apart from its fellow newbies — barring the presence of Pascal and Goggins — is the excellent response that it is debuting to. It currently holds a "fresh" 100% approval rating on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, albeit with just seven reviews currently listed.

She is the wife of actor Walton Goggins,...

In 2008, the first "Twilight" movie — based on a novel of the same name by Stephenie Meyer — hit theaters, made stars out of the two young leads Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, and became one of the biggest young adult sensations in modern cinematic history. The story begins when Stewart's socially awkward teen Bella Swan moves to Forks, Washington to live with her dad Charlie (Billy Burke), the police chief of the small town; her whole world turns sideways when she meets Edward Cullen (Pattinson), a handsome but mysterious high school student hiding an enormous secret. (He's a vampire. That's the secret.)
Across five movies — "Twilight" and its "Twilight Saga" sequels "New Moon," "Eclipse," and parts one and two of "Breaking Dawn" — we watch as Bella and Edward navigate the difficulties of a relationship between a human teenager and a century-old vampire masquerading as a regular teenager, dealing with all...

With a remake in the works, The Twilight Saga has had a resurgence like any other in pop culture. It was a huge success in the 2000s and 2010s when it was released, but it also endures well into the 2020s. Endless social media videos and cosplays have continued the legacy of Stephanie Meyer's masterpiece, but what makes it so lovable even today?
Most fans have grown up with the series and lived through Bella's inner turmoil over her forbidden romance with a vampire and then her conflicting feelings for a werewolf. Twilight is no ordinary story, which is why it has transcended generations to become a pop culture phenomenon. Even 13 years later, fans still can't shake off the hold the franchise has on them.

Within pop culture, trends emerge where it becomes cool to hate things. While targets like superhero movies and Coldplay move in and out of the crosshairs, the Twilight movies are a permanent fixture of abuse from cinephiles. But, the franchise's star, Robert Pattinson, says enough is enough, and that fans need to move on.
Pattinson played Edward Cullen, the lead vampire, in all five Twilight films, alongside Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan and Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black. The first entry, aptly named Twilight, was released back in 2008, while the final installment, Breaking Dawn - Part 2, landing just four years later in 2012.
Via DiscussingFilm, Pattinson said Twilight haters need to move on with their lives. "It fascinates me that people keep telling me: 'Dude, Twilight ruined the vampire genre,'" the actor explained. Twilight fans will soon be able to go back to where it all started thanks to Lego, as the company has officially unveiled the newest set in their Ideas line, Twilight: The Cullen House. The build is a replica of the iconic home and highlights a number of rooms and set pieces featured throughout the series, including the kitchen, Edward's bedroom, and the grand piano. Based on the 2005 novel by Stephanie Meyer, Twilight became a smash hit when it was released in 2008, earning more than $408 million at the box office. Perhaps the best part about the new set, however, is that Edward actually sparkles.
Per the Lego website, the three-story house is composed of 2001 pieces, and comes with seven minifigures including Bella, Edward, Jacob, Carlisle, Esme, Alice, and Bella's father, Charlie. Jacob will also be represented by a mini wolf figure, and Charlie's red truck is also included, as is...

As one of the most successful genres in fiction, horror has slowly worked its way into television, leading to a long list of brilliant and scary shows, from American Horror Story to Buffy the Vampire Slayer. These series can range from compressed miniseries to long-running shows that lead the audience on a years-long journey with the characters. Regardless of format, some series maintain quality much better than others.
Television has seen some of its best shows of all time over the last two decades, and horror has helped lead the way in high quality stories for the 21st century, particularly the 2010s on. Although some well-respected and iconic horror shows had their share of hits and misses, such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Supernatural, others maintained an impressive degree of consistency from beginning to end.

In September 2024, Netflix announced plans to make a Twilight animated series based on Stephenie Meyer's 2020 novel Midnight Sun. The companion novel retells the events of the first Twilight novel, doing so entirely from Edward Cullen's sparkly-eyed perspective. With the animated series in development and casting hopefuls underway, it's worth wondering if and how the vicious vampire Victoria will figure into the story and who will portray her onscreen through a vocal performance.
Speaking of Victoria, Twilight Saga fans will surely recall the original actor Rachelle Lefevre being suddenly replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard in the franchise's third entry, Eclipse. With 14 years since the movie was released, it's also likely many fans have forgotten why Lefevre abruptly left the popular teen fantasy franchise. Now that enough time has passed, addressing Lefevre's departure and assessing which actor gave a more convincing performance as Victoria will help drum up newfound interest...

Just in time for the holiday season, the 2005 Christmas romantic comedy The Family Stone is now trending on Prime Video. The movie follows a woman who accompanies her boyfriend home for the holidays but is met with an overwhelmingly negative response from his family because of her uptight personality. Along with the typical plot points that spell success for many rom-coms, The Family Stone also features a fantastic ensemble cast that showcases many A-list actors. Overall, it is the perfect comforting rom-com to start off the holiday season.
The Family Stone received a mixed critical reception and holds a modest 52% on Rotten Tomatoes, but it did well at the box office, grossing $92.9 million on a budget of $18 million (via Box Office Mojo). Though The Family Stone is not as highly remembered as other romantic comedies of the same time period, the movie is actually very good and audiences now have...

Now that the Thanksgiving food coma is behind us, it's time to look at the joy and cheer of the holiday season, and there is no better way to do that than with some Christmas movie favorites. While films such as Home Alone and A Christmas Story are a go-to for many, other, more low-key choices have also moved up the ranks over the years. That has happened with the 2005 comedy-drama The Family Stone, a film that received mixed reviews upon release but was a financial success. In the years since its initial debut, the film has gained in popularity, even if it's a bit divisive due to some of the dramatic turns it takes despite its cheerful holiday setting.

After being pigeonholed as a certain type of actor for a number of years, Kristen Stewart's movies have showcased that she is an incredible talent of immense versatility. The American actress got her start early, earning acclaim at the tender age of 12 years old for her role in David Fincher's thriller Panic Room. She continued her career with a number of teen roles before becoming a household name thanks to her role as Bella Swan in the Twilight movie franchise.
Like with her Twilight costar Robert Pattinson, the popular but critically derided movies helped and hurt Stewart's career, leading her to reinvent herself as an indie actor, willing to take on bold and challenging roles. Since then, Stewart has emerged as one of the most acclaimed actors of her generation, working alongside talented filmmakers and even scoring her first Oscar nomination. While there is a long and...

As the Christmas season approaches, you're probably ready to get into the holiday spirit with some on-brand movies — and if we're putting aside all but one streaming service, there are some pretty great selections on Amazon's Prime Video. I'm just as susceptible to holiday cheer as anyone else, and whether they're from my childhood or new discoveries, I like to settle in on a chilly early winter night with a holiday-themed movie. So what are some great selections on Prime Video?
This list obviously excludes anything that requires a secondary subscription — looking at you, movies available on Prime through Max and Starz — as well as anything you have to pay to rent, but there are still some pretty solid holiday movies to choose from on the online retailer's proprietary streamer. From dramatic family Christmases to a sprawling British ensemble comedy to one of the most famous (and emotional) Christmas movies in cinematic history,...

A disillusioned actress, her equally frustrated husband, and selfish guests experience a night of personal crisis when a confused elderly woman accidentally crashes their star-studded cocktail party. The Uninvited addresses the sobering truths of aging with incisive comedy and sharp social commentary. Writer/director Nadia Conners gets top marks for putting the audience in the shoes of a lovely and caring protagonist who's constantly told she's past her prime. A drumbeat of rejection and criticism leads to a truthful reckoning about how women are poorly treated. Misogynists be damned. The ladies in our lives are indispensable and deserve much more credit for everything they do.

Over the years, Netflix has boasted an extensive catalog of horror movies and shows, yet even six years later, The Haunting of Hill House still stands out as the platform's best horror series. Warning: This article contains Major Spoilers for The Perfect Couple.
Dakota Fannings performance in the hit new Netflix Show The Perfect Couple repeats a career twist from 12 years ago, when she appeared in the Twilight movies. Netflixs newest murder mystery revels in its soapy, overdramatic elements. Despite The Perfect Couple being divisive among both critics and audiences, the show has remained in the number 1 spot of Netflixs Top 10 list since its release, making it a hit.
While the series has unquestionable narrative flaws, the show shines because of the performances of The Perfect Couples A-list cast. The actors who portray the Winbury family do a great job of making their ridiculously wealthy characters unlikable and obnoxious. A notable standout in the murder mystery is actor Dakota Fanning who portrays The Perfect Couples pregnant murderer, Abby Winbury. In addition to being hilariously terrible, Fannings role mirrors a career twist from over a decade ago.

Midnight Sun, a Twilight novel by Stephanie Meyer, is heading to the small screen at Netflix – in animated series form.
There was a time in the early 2010s when Twilight was just about the biggest film franchise around.
It comprises five films – 2008’s Twilight, directed by Catherine Hardwicke, 2009’s New Moon, directed by Chris Weitz, 2010’s Eclipse, directed by David Slade, and the two part finale Breaking Dawn, directed by Bill Condon and released in 2011 and 2012. Their success was such that two parody films were also released in quick succession, the much maligned Vampire’s Suck and Breaking Wind.
The films followed Kristen Stewart’s Bella Swan as she becomes romantically involved with vampire Edward Cullen, played by Robert Pattinson, and werewolf Jacob Black, played by Taylor Lautner. Which all leads to a battle with vampire coven The Volturi.
Adapted by future Jessica Jones creator Melissa Rosenberg, the large ensemble cast also included Billy Burke,...

Mike Flanagan shifts away from bleak endings due to personal life changes and family. Flanagan's new family life has influenced his storytelling, seeking hope and empathy in his projects. Flanagan's hopeful approach aligns well with Stephen King's The Dark Tower themes, making him a suitable adapter for the project.
Director Mike Flanagan has revealed why his recent projects have shifted away from the bleak endings that gained high praise in the likes of The Haunting of Hill House. Despite making a name for himself as the go-to name in horror, Flanagan has shifted his stance on the endings of his newer projects, which include his adaptation of Stephen Kings novella, The Life of Chuck.
Flanagan's reputation for leaving audiences devastated at the end of some of his most popular and successful movies and streaming dramas began before he brought Hill House to Netflix and propelled himself up the ladder of in-demand directors.

Robert Pattinson disliked the sparkling vampire makeup in Twilight. A Twilight reboot series is in development as an animated series. Jacob Elordi and Jenna Ortega are suggested for the lead roles in the reboot.
Its been 12 long years since the Twilight franchise concluded with Breaking Dawn Part 2 in 2012, but one thing everyone still comments on are those darn sparkles. Star Jackson Rathbone is no exception, who recently told an audience full of fans how Robert Pattinson really felt about becoming a sparkling vampire in the series. Rathbone starred alongside Pattinson in The Twilight Saga as Jasper Hale, the newest member of the Cullen family who can manipulate emotions and has trouble sticking to their vegetarian diet of animal blood.
Appearing at Emerald City Comic Con earlier this year (via PopVerse), Rathbone told the audience in attendance at the Twilight spotlight panel that like most of us Robert Pattinson hated those sparkles.
