Directed by Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui, Super/Man follows Reeve’s life, career, and resilience after a near-fatal horseback riding accident in 1995, which left him paralyzed from the neck down. Known for his iconic role as Superman in the 1978 film and its subsequent sequels, Reeve became a major advocate for disability rights after his accident and led the Christopher and Dana Reeve foundation up until his death in 2004 at the age of 52.

The film originally had its world premiere at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival where it was met with strong critical reception. Most recently, the film had a theatrical run in the U.S. and won six Critics Choice Documentary Awards for Best Director, Best Editing, Best Score, Best Archival Documentary and Best Biographical Documentary. It tied for Best Documentary Feature with Netflix’s “Will & Harper.”

“Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story” tells the true story of the late actor Christopher Reeve after a life-altering horseback incident in 1995 left him paralyzed from the neck down. Will Reeve, Alexandra Reeve Givens, and Matthew Reeve posed together at the UK premiere of the documentary Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story on Monday (October 14) at BFI IMAX Waterloo in London, England.

The event was part of the BFI London Film Festival.

Matt, 44, Alexandra, 40, and Will, 32, all participated in the documentary, which is now playing in theaters.

“It’s a beautiful thing to be able to see the full picture of a person’s life,” Alexandra told People. “There were high highs and low lows but also two deep true loves and [three] kids that together blended into this beautiful family.”

IndieWire can confirm that documentary “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story” has officially won the 2024 HamptonsFilm SummerDocs Series’ Audience Award, after screening at the program August 14.

Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui co-direct the documentary, which has been shortlisted by IndieWire as an Oscar frontrunner. “Super/Man” charts Reeve’s astonishing rise from unknown actor to iconic movie star, including his definitive portrayal of Clark Kent/Superman, before being injured in a near-fatal horse-riding accident in 1995 that left him paralyzed from the neck down, but catalyzed his activism for disability rights.

The feature first screened at Sundance before playing at HamptonsFilm, among other festivals.

For the SummerDocs screening, executive producer Connor Schell and Reeve’s son Will Reeve participated in a Q&a conversation moderated by HamptonsFilm Artistic Director David Nugent and Chairman Emeritus Alec Baldwin.

Aside from a blurry shot of The Engineer from afar, cameras were rolling on Superman for a long time before filmmaker James Gunn's Dcu reboot finally reached Cleveland, the city which will double for Metropolis. 

We've already brought you a couple of breakdowns which rounded up some of the biggest reveals from set. Now, we're back with another, and there's a lot to delve into here. 

David Corenswet has once again been spotted suited up as the Man of Steel, as have a number of other cast members in their respective superhero roles. Christopher Reeve is best known for playing Clark Kent/Superman in four Superman movies released between 1978 and 1987. He passed away from heart failure in October 2004 at the age of 52.

James Gunn’s Superman has added Will Reeve, son of the late Superman star Christopher Reeve, in a cameo role, according to local reporting out of Cleveland, where production is currently in motion.

While reps for Warner Bros and DC could not be reached for comment, the younger Reeve will reportedly be playing a TV reporter, which is fitting given his real-world work as a correspondent for ABC News.

Reeve’s father Christopher is indelibly linked to the Superman franchise, having become the definitive portrayal of the iconic superhero for an entire generation. His relationship with the franchise began in 1978, when he was cast as the titular character in Richard Donner’s Superman: The Movie, and he went on to don the cape in three sequels between 1980 and 1987: Superman II, Superman III, and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace.

The project is currently filming in Cleveland, Ohio, where local reporters (via Cleveland.com) captured all the behind-the-scenes action, including Reeve’s appearance on set during a major scene. David Corenswet stars as Superman in the character’s latest revival, written and directed by Gunn, the co-head of Warner Bros.-owned DC Studios. The film arrives in theaters on July 11, 2025.

This time, David Corenswet's iconic DC Comics superhero is shown taking flight to try and save a falling civilian. That is indeed the actor performing his own stunts for the scene and, in contrast to other recent photos, it appears Superman's suit is a lot more beaten up here.

In fact, it looks as dirty as the version seen in James Gunn's divisive first-look photo, suggesting this sequence takes place later in the film when Metropolis comes under attack.

His daughter, Isabella Strahan, recently revealed another significant update on her health situation.

Isabella, one of Michael’s 19-year-old twin daughters, has been battling and recovering from her medulloblastoma diagnosis last year.
