Last night the red carpet was unfurled once more in the capital for the World Premiere of Roger Goldby’s The Time of Their Lives. The event was held at the Curzon Mayfair in London and was attended by Dame Joan Collins, Pauline Collins, Franco Nero, Sian Reeves, Andres Velencoso and Allene Quincy. The director Roger Goldby and producers Sir Tim Rice and Sarah Sulick were also on hand to talk through the production.
We spoke to Dame Joan and Franco Nero, who talked about his work on the classic 1981 movie Enter the Ninja which he admits he ended up directing much of. He also confirms he’ll appear in John Wick 3, which is great news as it’s another piece of confirmation that Keanu Reeves will be back as the eponymous hitman.

Former Emmerdale actress Sian Reeves has said that she would love a role in Coronation Street. Reeves, who played stalker Sally Spode in the Yorkshire soap and is currently starring in Sky Living comedy-drama Mount Pleasant, said a move to Manchester would enable her to stay near her daughter who plans to go to university in the area this autumn. "I would love to do Corrie. EastEnders would be good as well because it's near home - although soon [my daughter] Bessie's going to be off getting drunk at Leeds or Manchester University so maybe I can go and join her," she said. "You do work much harder in a soap, because the episode turnover is just horrific, but I'd never say no because something interesting might come up." Saturday Night Entertainment television is very horrible.
Don’t get me wrong. I do not mean in terms of the content, because I love it when Phillip Schofield gets all ‘Prime time’ on me. I merely mean in terms of the pressures they set upon society. Am I Right, Cruel World?
Oh us. The unsuspecting general public, who just like something to watch whilst we sip from mugs. Because sometimes mug sipping is just not enough. Sometimes the mugs are merely empty. (This isn’t a metaphor for the depravity of life, it was a mug-based analysis only.) But nowadays, turning on the television is like reawakening a rubbish school bully who gives your trousers a ‘look’. So many demands and threats are suddenly thrust upon us:
Got to Dance.
Strictly come Dancing.
Do You think you can dance?
and
How Do you solve a problem like Maria?...

Ride With The Devil (Criterion) Ang Lee’s revisionist take on the Civil War is awash in moral ambiguity, along with some stunning cinematography, production design, and fine performances. Set during the Kansas-Missouri border war, Tobey Maguire and Skeet Ulrich star as two friends who join up with the Confederate-sympathizing Bushwhackers, finding an odd ally in a former slave (Jeffrey Wright). While it’s fascinating to see America’s bloodiest conflict through the eyes of a foreigner, thereby allowing much of the previously mentioned ambiguity a certain latitude, the film never loses the bad taste it leaves for one simple reason: it asks us, the audience, to side with not just the Confederates, but some of the lowest trash that made up the dregs, and the fringes, of the movement. Big points for audacity, but snake eyes on the story itself. Singer Jewel is impressive in her film debut.
