Despite its smattering of shortcomings, “A Castle For Christmas” is gently disarming, heartening, holiday-themed escapism that’s as satisfying as a cup of hot chocolate on a cold winter’s night. Director Mary Lambert’s romcom is centered on a divorcée who, after a public meltdown, buys a castle in Scotland, meets a dreamy duke and regains her creative vitality. Trading cloying for cute, treacly for tolerable, and caustic for comforting, its sincere, aspirational sentiments about it never being too late to write your own second chapter feel genuinely meaningful, making up for its struggles to pay off unrequited setups.
Sophie Brown (Brooke Shields) is a successful romcom novelist, having released a dozen books in the popular “Emma Gale” series. However, the celebrated author has recently come under fire by her fans since choosing to kill off her protagonist’s love interest — a creative decision motivated by her own bitter...

"Maybe this is my next chapter..." Netflix has released the first official trailer for A Castle for Christmas, a charming romantic comedy holiday movie debuting on Thanksgiving week later this month. The latest film from the intrepid filmmaker Mary Lambert. Famed author Sophie Brown travels to Scotland hoping to buy a small castle, but the prickly owner Duke Myles is reluctant to sell to a foreigner. Working to find a compromise, the pair constantly butt heads, but they may just find something more than they were expecting. Starring two talented "where have they been?" actors: Cary Elwes and Brooke Shields. And a cast including Vanessa Grasse, Suanne Braun, Lee Ross, Andi Osho, Mark Fleischmann, and Eilidh Loan. This looks like the most adorable Christmas movie that's destined to become a new holiday classic! Lots of cheesiness and charm. And a giant castle! And Cary Elwes back to woo another lass!

Director Mike Leigh’s social-personal observations of life as it is lived in the U.K. always get to me — this one may simply be a more realistic soap opera, but it’s so good that one pays no attention to technical matters, who the actors are or when they are ‘acting’ … it just ‘is,’ and it’s so involving that one becomes anxious over the smallest thing. Leigh’s most acclaimed picture is the perfect antidote for bloated event filmmaking. And unlike some of his pictures, you walk out with a smile on your face.

Because The CW only licenses the Bulletproof series, it's likely much less expensive for the network to air than original scripted programming. At the same time, the ratings aren't very good so it's hard to tell if it will be worth it for the network to want any additional seasons (if they're produced). Will Bulletproof be cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned. *Status Update Below.
A British crime drama, Bulletproof stars Ashley Walters, Noel Clarke, Lindsey Coulson, Jason Maza, David Elliot, Olivia Chenery, Lucie Shorthouse, Lee Ross, Vanessa Vanderpuye, and Jodie Campbell. Unfolding in London, the series centers on Aaron "Bish" Bishop (Clarke) and Ronald "Ronnie" Pike Jr (Walters) who work as undercover police detectives. Although they are from vastly different backgrounds, these partners have a deep, brotherly bond that finds its foundation in their moral...

Bishop and Pike will return for another case. The CW has picked up a "third season" of the British crime drama series which is comprised of three parts. Set in Cape Town, South Africa, it was filmed earlier this year for Sky and is expected to air in the UK and the United States at some point in 2021.

Back in February (remember February? Pubs and high streets and butterflying blithely in and out of shops and cafes as carefree as a 19th century Parisian flaneur? I digress), Den of Geek ran an interview with Life on Mars co-creator Matthew Graham.
Speaking with us to mark the forthcoming tenth anniversary of the Ashes to Ashes finale, Graham revisited his and Ashley Pharoah’s cult BBC sci-fi crime shows, and bemoaned the lack of a proper ending for John Simm’s character Di Sam Tyler.
“We never got to tie up John,” said Graham, referencing John Simm’s premature exit from the role after two series.
A revival idea however, that would give Di Sam Tyler a final exit and close the Life on Mars door for good, was in the works.
During a Twitter watch-along of Life on Mars’ first episode by Graham and Pharoah held last night at...

This tale of the unexplained lockdown of a block of flats is a zippy, clean-cut and ingenious panic-thriller
Struggling artist Mark (Lee Ross) wakes up in his flat one morning in the Southampton tower block where he lives to discover the windows and doors have been sealed shut, locking him inside. The bad day just gets worse when he discovers his neighbours – some of whom come breaking through the walls with sledgehammers - are in the same boat, and people in hazmat suits are enforcing a quarantine by any means necessary.

Film London, global film streaming platform We Are Colony and Edge Hill University have announced the latest phase of an innovative research project which explores ways to capitalize on digital film releases, empower filmmakers and satisfy audiences’ appetite for exclusive content. Don't you wish you were British so you could partake in this project with your film?
Made possible by the Digital R&D fund for the Arts, the project examines the rapidly-evolving world of video on demand, and how the We Are Colony platform can engage fans who are keen to unlock exciting additional content such as deleted scenes, interviews, scripts and trailers. The seven titles selected for the year-long research project are the critically-acclaimed "Appropriate Behavior," Benedict Cumberbatch road movie "Third Star," feted Alternative Miss World documentary "The British Guide To Showing Off," Agyness Deyn’s breakout performance in "Electricity," uncompromising British drama "We Are Monster," high-concept thriller "Containment," and award-winning short film "Some Candid Observations on the Eve of the End of the World."
Adrian Wootton, Chief Executive of Film London and the British Film Commission , said: “Film London exists to help connect ideas, finance and talent at every stage of the filmmaking process, so a project which helps our industry capitalize on new technologies while exploring innovative ways to engage audiences is a perfect fit for us. By bringing together industry nous, entrepreneurial instincts and academic excellence this partnership is proving to be extremely exciting, and I’m looking forward to see how it develops and benefits the seven films we have selected.”
Sarah Tierney, founder of We Are Colony, comments: “We are pleased to be working with a group of forward-thinking and innovative producers, distributors and sales agents, keen to interrogate the potential of new digital models to engage an audience early and through additional content. In addition, with content being delivered to registered account holders in over 100 countries, We Are Colony is looking forward to sharing data from the beta launch, and the results of a significant user survey looking at viewing behaviors and attitudes to content.”
Working with a range of budgets and varying international appeal, the slate aims to reflect the reality of independent production in the UK. As Leeshon Alexander, writer, producer and star of "We Are Monster," comments: “'We Are Monster' is a truly independent film. As such, we feel it’s not only important to be a part of such a study, but a fantastic opportunity to work closely with a progressive screen agency such as Film London and a sector innovator such as We Are Colony.”
Cecilia Frugiuele of Parkville Pictures, producer of "Appropriate Behavior" and short film "Some Candid Observations on the Eve of the End of the World" also comments: “The international reach of the platform is also a way for producers and Sales Agents to be in control of their film’s destiny offering new ways to exploit a title without a traditional distributor.”
Core to We Are Colony’s unique place in the VOD market is the release of ‘special edition bundles,' releasing quality films with a range of (often exclusive) additional and behind-the-scenes content. Franki Goodwin of Western Edge Pictures, who produced "Third Star," adds: “For us, the opportunity to partner with We Are Colony to bring additional content to our fans, and in turn to support a fantastic new VOD platform, was a no-brainer. This is a huge opportunity for film makers to offer their audiences more than just a movie.”
In addition, the platform works hands-on with licensors in a marketing role, delivering content and creative, plus organic and paid marketing. Cecilia Frugiuele states: “We Are Colony is an empowering tool for filmmakers. It encourages them to think of audience engagement earlier in production, helping them shape their future distribution strategy.”
Lastly, as part of the research phase, the We Are Colony platform will be trialing new windows, including an innovative pre-sale model where users pay early in exchange for instant fulfillment on extra content, ahead of general release. One title currently in pre-sales in the UK is Containment, and producer Christine Hartland states: “We’re thrilled to be partnering with We Are Colony for the release of 'Containment.' We will be able to offer audiences a deeper experience of the film and a chance to engage in its world in innovative ways. As independent filmmakers we’re very aware of the crowded marketplace for indie British thrillers, and are excited about the possibilities of offering our audience more than just a conventional cinema experience. By connecting with audiences early and building their investment in the film, we intend to build a fanbase even ahead of release”.
The report, lead by Prof. Philip Drake of Edge Hill University and researcher Michael Franklin, co-authored by the project partners, is due to release in Q4 2015.
About the seven films selected for the project:
"Appropriate Behavior," the sexually-frank romantic comedy written, directed and starring Desiree Akhavan ("Girls"), produced by Cecilia Frugiuele, nominated in the Independent Spirit Awards 2014. The film was licensed from Peccadillo Pictures (UK), Gravitas Ventures (North America) and Transmission Films (Australia and New Zealand).
"The British Guide To Showing Off," the critically-acclaimed documentary which pays homage to the eccentric universe of the Alternative Miss World Show, directed by Jes Benstock and produced by Dorigen Hammond.
"Third Star," the critically-acclaimed British road movie starring Benedict Cumberbatch ("The Imitation Game," "Sherlock"), Tom Burke ( The Musketeers"), Jj Feild ("Captain America"), Adam Robertson and Hugh Bonneville ("Downton Abbey"), re-released internationally through the We Are Colony platform. The film was licensed from Independent Film Sales.
"Electricity," the startling 'Alice in Wonderland' tale with a breakout performance by Agyness Deyn, directed by Bryn Higgins and produced by Clare Duggan. Licensed from Soda Pictures (UK).
"We Are Monster," the critically-acclaimed, uncompromising British drama written, produced and starring Leeshon Alexander, directed by Antony Petrou, with producers including Noel Clarke ("Adulthood, Kidulthood"). The film was licensed from Metrodome Distribution (UK).
"Containment," the high-concept British thriller with an ensemble cast including Lee Ross ("The English Patient," "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes") and Louise Brealey ("Sherlock"), directed by Neil Mcenery-West and produced by Christine Hartland, Casey Herbert and Pete Smyth. The film was licensed by Vision Films (international sales).
And "Some Candid Observations on the Eve of the End of the World," the award-winning short film starring Theo Barklem-Biggs ("KIngsman: The Secret Service," "The Inbetweeners Movie") and Adrian Scarborough ("The King’s Speech," "Les Misérables").

Chicago – It’s impossible to simply play spectator through the forward-moving experimental indie “Locke” without analyzing your own past. And only a zombie could sit through this one-man film without questioning what choices you’d make in Tom Hardy’s shoes.
The 85-minute film, which stars Tom Hardy and features only him on screen simply in a car, isn’t a movie you can simply be entertained by. Though the credits only list Hardy (who played Bane in “The Dark Knight Rises”) along with various other people for their voice work, the other star of the film who is quietly uncredited is you.
Rating: 4.5/5.0
And that is this visionary film’s primary power. From a box-office perspective, the film’s challenge is its small release: only 25 theatres and $112,000 earned domestically over the past week since it opened anywhere. But for those who are able to find it, you’ll see...

Traversing these stormy waters in the Good Ship Shadowlocked, we're coming to the finishing point in the very near future. Having visited destinations such as Skaro, Gallifrey and Eden, and having done hearty battle with rum baddies such as The Master, Davros and Murray's Pompous Choir, looking back in the ship's log, one other danger is that in the latter stages of the voyage, that queasy feeling of Déjà vu can creep into one or two stories. The Doctor's Daughter conclusion felt too much like the end of Last Of The Time Lords. The Vampires Of Venice felt like State Of Decay and School Reunion, but with false teeth. And now, one more adventure to chalk up to experience is The Curse Of The Black Spot.
In other words, it's a light-hearted diversion from the main dilemma of the season. Buffy and Angel did this sort of thing back in...

It seems that during every series of Doctor Who we reach this point. After a run of great episodes we’re treated to something decidedly…not great. Some might say average. Some might say extremely poor. Because as magnificent as Doctor Who is when someone like Stephen Moffat or Paul Cornell is writing it, you have to remember that the show will always have its peaks and troughs, the quality level will always rise and fall, and at some point you’ll get an episode that doesn’t really work.
The other thing you have to remember, crucially, is that Doctor Who for all its wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff is, was, and always will be for children. It’s not exclusively for children, and at times it treads a pretty fine line between child and young adult, but this is not a show intended for grown ups, and sealed away beyond the watershed.

EastEnders' executive producer Diederick Santer has revealed that "brilliant" twists are planned for the soap's ongoing Lucas Johnson plotline. Sinister man of the cloth Lucas, played by Don Gilet, was seen accidentally killing his wife Trina (Sharon Duncan-Brewster) in September this year. Meanwhile, last month, the priest claimed a second victim when he targeted Owen Turner (Lee Ross), the ex-husband of his new partner Denise (Diane Parish). Speaking about the character's future in an interview with Digital Spy, Santer teased: "Lucas is doing the Lord's work and who knows what that's doing to his head - maybe he'll kill again. Panicking that Owen (Lee Ross) is about to expose his involvement in Trina's (Sharon Duncan-Brewster) death earlier in the year, Lucas - played by Don Gilet - drives the pair to a secluded location where a showdown ensues. Rattled by Owen's accusations, Lucas's mind goes into overdrive. Pushed further to the edge by Owen's words, Lucas removes his bow tie, forms a ligature and swiftly strangles him. EastEnders actor Don Gilet has insisted that his character Lucas Johnson does not simply regard Denise Wicks as a trophy partner. Troubled priest Lucas will be seen killing off Denise's ex-husband Owen Turner (Lee Ross) next week after his suspicions threaten to spoil their wedding plans. Speaking in an interview with Digital Spy, Gilet explained that Lucas and Denise's (Diane Parish) relationship cannot be classed purely as true love nor a marriage of convenience, describing the shop assistant as "the good woman [Lucas] thinks he should have". "It's not quite as simple as a token wife. She's a strong woman and she's his rock, so if those two can survive, they can take on the world," Gilet commented. EastEnders star Don Gilet has admitted that he had mixed feelings when he was told about his character's forthcoming murder twist. The actor's malevolent Lucas Johnson will provide a new Walford shock next week when he kills off his fiancée's ex-husband Owen Turner (Lee Ross). In an interview with Digital Spy, Gilet revealed that while he was thrilled to be offered such a high-profile plot, he also felt sadness when he realised that Lucas's Albert Square journey could soon be over. He commented: "I was excited. I was very happy but of course it's a double-edged sword. You can only do so many bad things in a soap or any kind of drama. There's a ticking clock to say these characters can only stay for so long once they go down the path of doing so much evil. "Somehow they have to make an exit, if it's not with their...
