Everyone involved with Snowfall told us that the series wouldn’t end well. No one consumed by the show’s crescendoing tension could expect anything but tragedy.
Few, if any, outlaws ever got away scot-free. And, even with the boundless capabilities of historical fiction, neither could Damson Idris’s Franklin Saint. Many Snowfall fans anticipated the series concluding with him being whisked away by the CIA, or killed at the hands of his Aunt Louie (Angela Lewis) — if not one of the many people whose lives he’d ruined en...

Kill The Messenger, the dramatic thriller based on the true story of Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Gary Webb is in theaters now, and gaining a lot of buzz.
Read Jim Batts’ review Here.
Recently, I had the chance to sit down with director Michael Cuesta, along with a small group of press, to talk about the film. Check it out below.
Two-time Academy Award nominee Jeremy Renner (“The Bourne Legacy”) leads an all-star cast in a dramatic thriller based on the remarkable true story of Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Gary Webb. Webb stumbles onto a story which leads to the shady origins of the men who started the crack epidemic on the nation’s streets…and further alleges that the CIA was aware of major dealers who were smuggling cocaine into the U.S., and using the profits to arm rebels fighting in Nicaragua. Despite warnings from drug kingpins and CIA operatives to stop his investigation,...

I don't typically check out documentaries when I attend film festivals, but I think I might have to make an exception for Nick Broomfield's Tales of the Grim Sleeper at this year's Toronto Festival as the director of such docs as Aileen Wuornos: Portrait of a Serial Killer and Biggie and Tupac digs into the case of the notorious serial killer known as the "Grim Sleeper," who terrorized South Central Los Angeles over a span of twenty-five years. The nickname comes as a result of what appears to be a 14-year hiatus between his crimes, from 1988 to 2002. The doc is clearly meant to look into the fact the police have had Lonnie David Franklin Jr., 57, in custody for over four years now and there just may be more than a shadow of a doubt he did not do it. As the trailer notes, police officer Ricky Ross was,...

What's the connection between a former drug kingpin, a mega-selling rap artist, and the face of a man familiar to coffee drinkers everywhere? The answer is determining the outcome of a splashy legal dispute. On Wednesday, a judge rejected claims made by "Freeway" Ricky Ross -- who ran a notorious drug empire that covered Los Angeles in the 1980s and 1990s -- against Warner Bros. Records over the career of hip hop star Rick Ross. The first Ross says the second Ross (born William Leonard Roberts II) stole his name and likeness, with the help of Jay-z and others

In the never ending world of rap feuds, 50 Cent has taken a shot towards his rap enemy, Rick Ross, over the recent drive-by shooting incident that Rick was involved in on Monday, Jan. 28, claiming that the whole thing was ‘staged’!
While Rick Ross celebrated his 37th birthday on Jan. 28 in Miami, Rick and his friend Sateria Moragne-el were the target of an alleged drive-by shooting, as shots were fired outside his Rolls-Royce when he left the famous Liv club. They were both unharmed, even after Rick crashed the car trying to get away — and 50 Cent believes the reason they weren’t hurt, is because the whole incident was fabricated! Do you believe 50 Cent?!
50 Cent Tweets About Rick Ross Shooting Being Faked
“Hahaha fat boy hit the building?lol it looks staged to me. No hole’s in da car,” 50 Cent tweeted, attaching an Instagram pic of the car with zero bullet holes.

50 Cent reignited his feud with Rick Ross on Monday when he claimed that the drive-by shooting in which Ross was caught Monday was "staged."
After celebrating his 37th birthday at the Miami hotspot Liv, Ross was the target of an alleged drive-by shooting on the busy Las Olas Boulevard early Monday morning. A driver pulled up next to the rapper and fired shots in the direction of his 2011 Rolls Royce. Ross lost control and crashed the vehicle into an apartment building. Dozens of shell casings were found at the scene, but Ross and his passenger, Sateria Moragne-el, were unharmed.
50 Cent, apparently, didn't buy the story. He posted a tweet claiming the shooting was "staged" along with an Instagram photo of Ross' car, which appears free of bullet holes.

Rick Ross might not have canceled his tour because of death threats from a Chicago-based gang, but the Chicago Police Department is still taking the threats seriously.
The Chicago Pd has launched an investigation into death threats made against Ross by a Chicago gang, the Gangster Disciples, TMZ reported.
The Gangster Disciples made the threat against Ross in a YouTube video posted a few weeks ago, according to MTV News. In the video, the gang demands Ross cut a check to Gangster Disciples founder Larry Hoover or else there will be "trouble."
Chicago Pd was made aware of the video and will be investigating.
The gang reportedly has a problem with Ross name-dropping Hoover in his 2010 single, "B.M.F. (Blowin' Money Fast)." Hoover, who formed the Gangster Disciples in the late 1960s, is serving life in federal prison, according to The Smoking Gun. Ross is also accused of stealing...

It remains to be seen if there's truth to DJ Khaled and Drake's declaration that Rick Ross's upcoming album, God Forgives, I Don't, is a classic-in-the-making.
And while fans will have to wait until the December 13 release date to make that determination, on Tuesday night, they got a head-start after the Bawse dropped two promising singles. Rozay gave fans just a taste of his fifth solo LP last night when he visited New York radio disc jockey Funkmaster Flex and premiered "I Love My Bitches" and the Nicki Minaj-assisted "You the Boss" on Hot 97.
"I wanted to most definitely go to another level and make sure my sound continued to evolve and take people somewhere different," Ross told Flex. "I wanted to...

After scoring several acquittals throughout the '80s, reputed New York mobster John Gotti was nicknamed the "Teflon Don" because of his apparent inability to get convicted. Decades later, Miami Mc Rick Ross has adopted the moniker for the title of his latest album; however, a member of Gotti's family is not happy with the use of the late mob boss' handle.
"He should have asked for permission," Gotti's grandson Carmine Agnello told the New York Daily News. "A stand-up, respectable guy would come and ask, 'If I could use the nickname.' " Agnello also implied that lifting the mob boss' moniker was an unoriginal choice on Ross' part. "I think he's a great artist, but you can't just start calling yourself that to sell records,...

Rick Ross is having a pretty excellent year. His 2009 album Deeper Than Rap was a woefully underrated collection of jams that combined Ross' hardcore persona with his blooming pop sensibilities ("Maybach Music 2," "Usual Suspects," "Yacht Club" and "Bossy Lady" were some of the strongest tracks in all of hip-hop last year). His beloved Miami Heat just scored one of the biggest coups in the history of professional sports, retaining superstar Dwayne Wade and acquiring the services of LeBron James and Chris Bosh. And to top it off, his new album Teflon Don — which hits the streets today (July 20) — is roundly excellent, featuring production by Kanye West,...

Hip-hop star Rick Ross has reportedly won the first stage of his legal battle against drugs king Ricky Ross - the former convict's injunction against the rapper has been "tossed out" by a judge. Rick Ross is facing possible legal action from former drug trafficker Ricky Ross, who has accused the rapper of exploiting his name to forge a career in hip-hop.
