The Stephen King TV adaptations of the 90s have their legion of fans despite the varying qualities. The most famous mini-series of the bunch is the 1990 adaptation of It with Tim Curry in one of his many cultural defining roles as Pennywise. Many other adaptations include Storm of the Century and The Langoliers. One of the adaptations that has a cult following is the TV adaptation of The Stand from 1994. Blu-ray.com has recently reported that Paramount Home Media Distribution will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Mick Garris’ The Stand with a Limited SteelBook edition of the film, which is set to be sold exclusively at Walmart on September 24.
The description reads,
“In Stephen King’s epic vision of an apocalyptic future, the few survivors of a plague-ravaged world must choose sides in the ultimate battle of good vs. evil that will decide the fate of humanity. As the followers...

We’re just weeks away from the March 1st theatrical release of Dune: Part Two, the second half of director Denis Villeneuve’s two-part adaptation of the Frank Herbert novel Dune… and the whole time we’ve been gearing up to see this movie, one element of it that has been getting a lot of hype is the presence of sandworms. Cast member Javier Bardem said he wanted to ride a sandworm in the film, the actors said the production included “a main unit, a second unit, and a sandworm unit“, and there are tie-in popcorn buckets designed to look like sandworms. Now an extended sneak preview has made its way online, and it features a clip from the film where our hero Paul Atreides learns to ride a sandworm! Dune: Part Two, the second half of director Denis Villeneuve’s two-part adaptation of the Frank Herbert novel Dune, is now scheduled to be released on March 1st – but there are five more Herbert Dune novels that could serve as the basis for future films, and Villeneuve and his Dune stars Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya have all expressed interest in continuing the franchise. In an interview with Total Film magazine, Villeneuve said the ending of Dune: Part Two will set up the events of a third Dune film… if they get the chance to make it. He told Total Film, “All of the elements are there. But I think the movie adaptation is more tragic than the book. The way that Part Two ends… it would create a total balance and equilibrium to finish Paul’s storyline in what we could say in Part Three.“
Chalamet told Total Film, “The idea excites me very much.

A spicy rumor about the Dune film franchise is rising from the sands of Arrakis. Industry insider Daniel Richtman said that Warner Bros had signed Timothée Chalamet for Dune 3. While this is not a confirmation of production plans for another movie in Denis Villeneuve’s presentation of Dune, it’s not the first time we’ve heard rumblings that a third film is a possibility.
Previously, Dune writer Jon Spaihts confirmed a third film could happen. “There are a few tantalizing strands that lead into the future and suggest that we might not be done in this universe, despite the fact that the ending of ‘Dune’ as a novel, which will be the ending of the second film, is a very satisfying conclusion,” Spaihts told The Playlist early last year. “There are a number of ways in which the book also sounds ominous notes, and there are hints of foreboding...

Dune: Part Two, the second half of director Denis Villeneuve’s two-part adaptation of the Frank Herbert novel Dune, has a release date of November 3rd – and in this build-up to the film’s release, we’ve previously only heard that Villeneuve wrote the screenplay with Jon Spaihts, who he also collaborated with on the script for Dune: Part One. (Their Part One co-writer Eric Roth decided not to work on the follow-up.) Now, The Last of Us showrunner Craig Mazin has revealed that he was also a “participating writer” on Dune: Part Two!
Speaking with The Playlist, Mazin said that he’s basically out of the movie business, because he’s focusing on The Last of Us and his other TV work. But “I will work with certain directors when they call because I love them and because they’re so brilliant. So if, like, Denis Villeneuve calls, then absolutely.

The Warner Bros CinemaCon panel is bringing something spicy for today’s anticipated presentation. The sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s Dune debuts in theaters on November 3, 2023, but press members and attendees of this week’s show are getting a preview of Dune: Part Two before previews hit online.
During the presentation for Dune: Part Two, it was revealed the sequel was shot entirely for IMAX, making it the ultimate theater experience. At the top of the presentation, Villeneuve, Timothée Chalamet, and Zendaya took the stage. Villeneuve teased the film picks up exactly where 2021’s Dune left off. As Chalamet says, in the first movie, Paul is a student, but in this one, he becomes a leader and redeemer of the Freman. The story also digs deeply into the growing love between Paul and Chani, and Zendays says this was huge for her as, in the first film, her involvement was pretty limited.

Dune: Part Two is coming into focus, with filmmaker Denis Villeneuve and stars Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya showing off a new trailer for the Warner Bros. and Legendary sequel at CinemaCon Tuesday.
“Part One is more of a contemplative movie. Part Two is an action-packed, epic, war movie. It is much more dense. We went to all new locations,” said Villeneuve. “I didn’t want a feeling of repititon. It’s all new sets. Everyting is new.”
He also said that while 40 percent of the first film was shot in Imax, 100 percent of this film was shot in Imax.

George A. Romero is a name that is synonymous with the horror genre, and for good reason. His films, particularly his “Living Dead” series, have become icons of the genre and have influenced countless filmmakers. However, one of Romero’s lesser-known films, Martin, is just as worthy of recognition and analysis as his more famous works.

Martin lives with his elderly cousin, Cuda (Lincoln Maazel), who buys into Martin’s belief that he is a cursed vampire and treats him accordingly. When director Denis Villeneuve contacted Oscar-nominated costume designer Jacqueline West about creating the costumes for Dune: Part One, she initially turned him down. Speaking at a masterclass for Qatar’s Doha Film Institute, West told the audience (as reported by Deadline), “I said, ‘I don’t do sci-fi. It’s not my thing.’ I said no. He hired someone else, and I guess he wasn’t happy because he called my agent a second time and said, ‘Can I just talk to her.’ Mary Parent, who produced The Revenant and was producing Dune, got me in her office and put me on FaceTime with him on a big screen. He was so compelling. He said, ‘I want you because I do not want it to look like sci-fi. I want it to be classical. I don’t want it to look like a video game.’” Her time on Dune: Part One went so well,...

Dune: Part Two, the second half of director Denis Villeneuve‘s two-part adaptation of the Frank Herbert novel Dune, has wrapped filming, but isn’t set to reach theatres for another nine months – to be exact, it has a release date of November 3, 2023. Speaking with Collider, cast member Dave Bautista promised that this one will be worth the wait, and it is much more amped up and intense than its predecessor.
Bautista said, “This is so amped up from the first film. The first film was just an introduction to what this film is. There’s just so much going on, it’s so much more cutthroat and political and intense. And there are moments of levity where [there are] some funny moments, and they’re kind of absurd humor, but there are those moments. So it’s just so much more amped up than the first film.“

When Alejandro Jodorowsky was developing his unmade adaptation of the Frank Herbert novel Dune, he planned to cast Mick Jagger as the character Feyd-Rautha. When David Lynch brought his version of Dune to the screen in 1984, Feyd-Rautha was played by Sting. And in Dune: Part Two, the second half of director Denis Villeneuve‘s two-part adaptation of Dune (which is set to reach theatres on November 3, 2023), the character is played by Elvis star Austin Butler, who just received an Oscar nomination for his performance as Elvis Presley. Filmmakers really like to link Feyd-Rautha with famous musicians, either directly or with a small degree of separation. The pseudo-vampire film Martin was George A. Romero‘s personal favorite of all the films he had made – and now Second Sight Films has brought the film to 4K Uhd! Copies can be pre-ordered directly from Second Sight if you’re in the UK, but the company is not able to ship outside of the UK and Ireland. In the US, you can pre-order the release from Zavvi or Diabolik. 4K Uhd discs are region free, but the accompanying Blu-ray discs are locked to region B.
Written and directed by Romero, Martin has the following synopsis:
Young Martin is entirely convinced that he is an 84-year-old blood-sucking vampire. Without fangs or mystical powers, Martin injects women with sedatives and drinks their blood through wounds inflicted with razor blades. After moving to Braddock, Pennsylvania to live with his superstitious uncle, who also believes Martin is a vampire, Martin tries to prey...

Many have already come to the realization that Florence Pugh and Zendaya are incredible performers – in fact, Zendaya recently won an Emmy for her performance in the HBO series Euphoria, and Pugh received an Academy Award nomination for her performance in the 2019 version of Little Women. Now Timothée Chalamet is hyping up their roles in the upcoming Dune: Part Two, the second half of director Denis Villeneuve‘s two-part adaptation of the Frank Herbert novel Dune by describing them both as, yes, incredible.
Chalamet told Variety, “Florence is really special. She’s an incredible actor. She was incredible in (Dune: Part Two) — seriously incredible. She brought a gravitas to the role. And I can’t believe my good fortune at this young age…between (acting with) Taylor Russell in Bones and All and Zendaya in Dune. And Austin Butler’s in (the Dune sequel) too.“

In the ’70s, George A. Romero and his producing partner Richard P. Rubinstein formed the company Laurel Entertainment, and one TV show that came out of Laurel during Romero and Rubinstein’s years of working together was Tales from the Darkside, an anthology that mixed science fiction, fantasy, and horror. Earlier this year, we looked back at Tales from the Darkside for an episode of the Horror TV Shows We Miss video series. Romero left Laurel in the mid-’80s, and a while later Rubinstein oversaw another horror anthology TV show. That show was called Monsters, and it’s the one we’re digging into with the new episode of Horror TV Shows We Miss. Check it out in the embed above!
Created by Rubinstein and Mitchell Galin, Monsters has the following synopsis:
From modern-day fables of fear, to stories that uncover the trembling terrors of times past, each episode...

CBS All Access has released the first teaser for its upcoming adaptation of “The Stand.”
The short teaser, clocking in at just 30 seconds, aired during Sunday night’s MTV Video Music Awards. It briefly shows Whoopi Goldberg as Mother Abagail, introducing herself to Frannie Goldsmith (Odessa Young) in a cornfield and beckoning her, “you come see me at Hemingfoot Home.” From there, it goes on to display eerie deserted streets, distressing hospital moments and even a little bit of levitation.
“The Stand” is based on Stephen King’s 1978 novel of the same name and follows a battle between good and evil among the survivors of a plague. The main characters in the apocalyptic story are primarily split into two camps: those who follow the 108-year-old Mother Abagail, and those who align with Randall Flagg, the Dark Man.
