Peter Straub, a bestselling novelist who co-authored two beloved books with Stephen King, has died at the age of 79.

Straub’s daughter, Emma Straub, also a novelist, confirmed the news Tuesday on her Instagram account.

According to The New York Times, his wife, Susan Straub, said his death was caused by complications from breaking a hip. He died at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.

Fellow writers and collaborators have been mourning the author’s death on social media, including Neil Gaiman, who was one of the first to express his sadness at Straub’s death.

King, whose latest novel “Fairy Tale” debuts in bookstores Tuesday, wrote: “Working with him was one of the great joys of my creative life.”

Josh Boone will write and potentially direct a big screen adaptation of Stephen King and Peter Straub's The Talisman.

Stephen King and Peter Straub's fan favourite fantasy novel, The Talisman, is being adapted for the big screen by Amblin Entertainment, according to Variety. It was also confirmed that bigtime King fan Josh Boone, who's busy directing X-Men: New Mutants right now, will write the script. There's also a possibility he may direct the film. 

The Talisman tells the story of a 12-year-old boy named Jack Sawyer, who tries to save his mother from dying of cancer by finding a mysterious crystal known as "the Talisman." His quest leads him into The Territories, a sort of parallel universe of our own that's full of dangers. King co-wrote the novel with horror master Peter Straub (Ghost Story) as well as a sequel called Black House.

Josh Boone, the director of Fault of Our Stars and the upcoming New Mutants movie, has signed on to write and possibly direct the big screen adaptation of Stephen King's classic novel The Talisman.

The Talisman is one of my favorite Stephen King books and I'm shocked that it hasn't been adapted into a movie yet! The story follows a boy who enters a parallel world known as the territories on a mission to find a powerful talisman to save his mother from death. 

Frank Marshall is producing the film fro Amblin Entertainment and I hope that Josh Boone is up to the task to take on the challenge of adapting it. This seriously could be an incredible film, but it has to be done right with the right talent on board. Maybe Boone will be able to pull off! Only time will tell.

Del Rey Comics's adaptation of Stephen King and Peter Straub's collaborative novel The Talisman debuts later this month. The book is written by King's former research assistant Robin Furth, who also adapted the author's Dark Tower series for Marvel Comics. Stephen King collaborator Robin Furth has spoken about King's next comic adaptation The Talisman. As usual, the folks over at Lilja's Library have provided the latest info on all things Stephen King related. Today they announced the adaptor and artist for the comic book and graphic novel versions of The Talisman, which was co-written by King and Peter Straub.

The book will be drawn by Tony Shasteen, who has been an illustrator since 1995; and it will be written by Robin Furth, who co-writes the Dark Tower comics. Lettering and project management will be handled by Dabel Brothers Publishing with the first issue anticipated to be released in early fall, 2009. In addition, television rights to The Talisman are under development by Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy.

SlashFilm came across an impressive demo reel created by Canadian director Mathieu Ratthe who took it upon himself to write, direct and produce a 6:30 minute demo reel based on the opening chapter of "The Talisman" written by Stephen King and Peter Straub.
