Mother, with Don Lanning, of actor/singer Jerry Lanning, Don Lanning and Robert Lanning, who all appeared with her on The Lucy Show (1962) episode, Viv Moves Out (1964). Ex-mother-in-law of Sherry Mathis.

She started her career, in a vaudeville and nightclub act, with her sister, Anne Sherwood. Their father, Robert Sherwood, was the manager of a traveling minstrel show.
