Her first job was as a hostess for Flying Tiger airlines.

Was a top fashion model, when she attracted the attention of director Howard Hawks. She was signed by Hawks to a five-year contract in 1950.

Was the original choice to play Tess Millay in Red River (1948), but declined due to her pregnancy and recommended her friend Joanne Dru for the part, which Dru ultimately got.

From the late 1960s was heavily involved in fundraising for charities.

Worked as a part-time real estate agent in San Francisco from February 1952.

Had three daughters: one daughter, Ann Patricia Pattison (b. Fenbruary 27, 1947), with ex-husband William F. Pattison; two daughters, Julia L. Wildman (b. June 23, 1956) and Eileen M. Wildman (b. August 14, 1958), with ex-husband Paul Wellington Wildman.
