Mother of Murray Head and Anthony Head. Mother-in-law of Sarah Fisher. Grandmother of Emily Head, Daisy Head, Kate Head, and Sophie Head.

In the 1940s, Shingler and her husband, British director Seafield Head, were neighbors of Basil Dearden and Melissa Stribling.

She died in October 2019, some five weeks after celebrating her 100th birthday.

Her television roles include Madame Maigret in the BBC Television series, Maigret (1960-63), in which Rupert Davies played the eponymous French detective.

She was a British film and television actress.
