Lunar luck.
After concluding May with a discussion of Lisa Brühlmann’s female coming-of-age tale Blue My Mind (listen) and kicking off June reevaluating the unfairly maligned third act of Danny Boyle’s Sunshine (listen), we’re…..staying in outer space to marvel at the wacky antics of Lubdan the Leprechaun (Warwick Davis) in Brian Trenchard-Smith‘s 1997 sequel Leprechaun 4: In Space!
In the film, the Leprechaun abducts Princess Zarina (Rebekah Carlton), a member of an alien planet’s royalty, in an attempt to wed her and become her home planet’s new ruler. Unfortunately for him, a platoon of well-armed soldiers, led by Master Sergeant “Metal Head” Hooker (Tim Colceri), arrive to foil his plans. Not easily defeated, however, the feisty Leprechaun bursts out of one of the solider’s penises and continues to battle the soldiers while also contending with the warped scientist Dr. Mittenhand (Guy Siner).

"Sometimes you have to lose it all... to find what out what really matters." Pink Flamingo Films released the official trailer for an indie dramedy titled The Loss Adjuster, from the UK directed by Vincent Woods. Luke Goss stars as a "Hapless Insurance Loss Adjuster" who feels his life is spiraling out of control but discovers that even when you reach rock bottom, that some clouds really do have a silver lining. When his wife leaves him, he befriends strangers around the city at Christmas time. "The idea was to create a story of hope, fortitude, craziness set against sadness, loss and frustration but create the ability to laugh at the same time. Picking yourself up through tiny moments and kind gestures from those real friends around you and unexpected goodness." Also starring Guy Siner, Martin Kemp, Lorna Fitzgerald, Cathy Tyson, Joan Collins, and Kym Marsh. This looks a bit rough around the edges,...

St. Patrick’s Day is another fun holiday to celebrate with a few good movies between gulps of green beverages and hunts for that one person who forgot what day it was and will get your full wrath in one hard pinch. I wanted to take a little time to list a few films which will help you rewind after a hard day at work or at the local Irish pub. These are just a few of my favorites and a couple suggestions that give horror fans and family folks an alternative to the usual fare they’re bombarded with every year around this time.
Leprechaun
Dan O'Grady (Shay Duffin) steals 100 gold coins from a leprechaun (Warwick Davis in a role far from his cuddly one as Wicket the Ewok) while on vacation in Ireland. The leprechaun follows him home, but Dan locks the murderous midget in a crate, held...

All the Warwick Davis Leprechaun movies are coming out in a new Blu Ray combo pack. The commentary tracks offer some memories of my two contributions to the guilty pleasure franchise. Here are a few more.
I grew up enjoying the absurdist humor of the Monty Python’s Flying Circus TV series. So why not Absurdist Cinema? I loved the 1941 Hellzapoppin’, an early iconic example. The concept of the mid ’90’s Leprechaun franchise was proudly ludicrous – pint sized Jason/Freddy/Chucky amalgam with an Irish twist terrorizes and kills most of the supporting cast. But he was never really scary. I decided to embrace the absurd and make it as much fun as the formula allowed.
Blue Rider Pictures, for whom I had made Night Of The Demons 2, were asked by Trimark to produce the third and, at that stage, the intended last in the series. Send the little guy to Vegas,...

Feature Simon Brew 28 Jun 2013 - 07:11
Ever watched a big movie, and stopped with a jolt when a star of a British sitcom pops up? Us too...
This feature is all the fault of the late Richard Marner. As the incompetent Colonel in 'Allo 'Allo, he built a performance that was indelible in our eyes. Thus, when he turned up in a big Hollywood thriller as the President of Russia, we unsuccessfully stifled a guffaw. A big guffaw.
And it got us thinking: what other times has a British sitcom star appeared out of the blue in a big movie, causing a sedentary double take from the comfort of our local Odeon? Glad you asked.
Two things. Firstly, this isn't designed to be a complete list, and also, we've covered films made after the actor or actress confirmed rose to prominence in a sitcom. Oh, and another thing: none of...

Stars from the British sitcom 'Allo 'Allo are to reunite at the Spring Memorabilia Show at the NEC this weekend (March 26 to 27).
Cast members from the series, which aired on BBC1 from 1982 to 1992, will be at the event on both days to host panels, meet fans, sign autographs and pose for photographs.
Conceived as a parody of wartime drama Secret Army, the classic comedy took place in a French town occupied by the Germans during World War 2 - complete with a cast of Resistance agents, incompetent Nazis, bemused Raf airmen, buxom French beauties and a linguistically-challenged British spy.
Those attending the convention include Guy Siner (who played effete panzer commander Lieutenant Hubert Gruber), Richard Gibson (dastardly Gestapo officer Herr Otto Flick), Arthur Bostrom (Rugby's vowel-mangling spy Officer Crabtree), Kirsten Cooke (local resistance leader Michelle Dubois), Kim Hartman (Herr Flick's love interest Private Helga Geerhart), John D Collins (downed Raf airman...
