His father was a P-51 Fighter pilot during WW II and the Korean War, and played center at Georgia Tech under Coach Bobby Dodd.
He once lived in an apartment in Atlanta formerly inhabited by Margaret Mitchell when she was struck and killed by a taxi cab.
He worked twice with Matthew McConaughey, as Coach Jim McNally in "We Are Marshall" and as Sheriff Tate in HBO's "True Detective.".
