- Called the Detroit Spinners in the United Kingdom because of a conflict with a British group of the same name.
- They started out in the late 1950s as a doo-wop group in Detroit. They performed on the Motown label in the 1960s, but became famous after moving to Atlantic Records in the 1970s.
- The Spinners were awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Recording at 6723 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California.
- Members have included Philippé Wynne, Tony Davis, Mick Groves, Cliff Hall, Hughie Jones, Billy Henderson, Pervis Jackson, Bobbie Smith, Henry Fambrough, G.C. Cameron and John Edwards.
- Their biggest hits are "I'll Be Around", "One of a Kind (Love Affair)", "Then Came You" and "Mighty Love".
- Bobbie Smith died of lung cancer on March 16, 2013.
- They earned 12 gold records and six Grammy Award nominations.
