Award-winning writer Leopold St-Pierre has over 25 years writing experience in Canada, US and UK television. In the past decade, he has focused on films and theater, and has been involved in projects for Warner Bros., Fox, ABC, Disney and BBC. He has also worked with Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber (The Really Useful Group) and Sir George Martin, producer of The Beatles. In recent years he has also collaborated with and written projects for Gabriel Byrne, Eric Roberts, Charlotte Rampling, John Hurt, Joanna Lumley, Billy Dee Williams and Richard Chamberlain.
Apart from over 1,200 hours of produced television, he has written 32 feature screenplays, including Platinum (1997) (for Andrew Lloyd Webber's Really Useful Group), "The Modern Man" (also director; IFD), Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World (1998) (Equinoxe/ITC), "The Mystery of the Red-Headed Woman" (Warner Bros. and France 3), and "In the Midnight Hour".
He has won 6 Telefilm Canada Screenwriting awards ("The Magic Diary," "Montreal City Blues," "City of Saints," "Romeo & Romeo," "Ma Belle," and "The Midnight Bride"), and an equal number of Astral Media / Harold Greenberg Fund Screenwriting grants ("Forget-Me-Not," "After Midnight," "Sin City," "Dangerous Games," "City of Saints" and "Prisoners of Paradise").
His production company, Media Vérité Films, working with business partner Malcolm Clarke, has been nominated for 3 BAFTA Awards, 2 Golden Pandas and 4 Academy Awards, winning among its numerous other prizes, an Oscar for Malcolm Clarke's The Lady in Number 6: Music Saved My Life (2013). Leopold St-Pierre has also written and helped produce Malcolm Clarke's feature documentary Better Angels (2018).
His plays, "Two Piranhas," "The Mask of Sanity" and "The Cat and the Fiddle," have been produced in Montreal, London and Toronto, with "Two Piranhas" winning three top prizes, including Infinitytheatre's Best Play award in 2018.
Leopold also wrote the screenplay for "The Gospel of Judas," based on the recently-discovered 3rd century manuscript (published by National Geographic). His theatrical feature comedy "One Love" is being developed by Thom Mount; his "1,001 Elvises" is in development at Creative Atlantic Communications; and his award-winning thriller about Montréal in the 1940s, "City of Saints," is being developed by Couzin Films. He has recently contributed to two animated feature films in development: "Grizzy & The Lemmings" (Hari Productions, France) and "The Magic Circus" (Artefact Productions, Shanghai).
Leopold has also worked extensively as a 'script doctor' for HBO, Promark, Lionsgate and Showtime. He has an MA in Film from McGill University, and has taught screenwriting at Vanier College and University of Toronto. His noir novel, "The Girl with the Powder-Blue Eyes," is being published by Jade Dragon Press.
