Chicago – When a real life group of friends keep a thirty year tradition alive, playing a game of “Tag,” there is bound to be a film that shares the same name. Jeff Tomsic makes his director debut with a killer cast… Ed Helms, Jon Hamm, Jake Johnson, Hannibal Buress and Jeremy Renner, all still playing that childhood game.
The rules are the game only takes place in the month of May every year, and there are other agreed upon guidelines like no “tag backs.” The kicker is that Jerry (Jeremy Renner) has never been “It.” Yes, in all the years the crew has been playing the game, he’s never been tagged. The other players see an opportunity during Jerry’s wedding weekend, if they can overcome his determination, his bride-to-be (Anabelle Wallis), and the various women in their lives, as portrayed by Isla Fisher, Rashida Jones and Nora Dunn.

Welcome to an R-rated summer funfest ... with the substance and staying power of a helium balloon. It's a trip, at least until the laughing gas sputters and evaporates. Based on a true story (reported in a 2013 article in the Wall Street Journal), this comedy foillows a group of fortysomething manchildren who meet up one month out of every year to play the infantile game they’re been obsessing over since First Grade. It's a competition that revels unashamedly in the male need to compete as a way of expressing a...

Lifelong friendships are always a tricky thing to condense into a tidy frame. Sometimes people are brought together by years of complex struggles or a harrowing series of shared challenges, encapsulating the very nature of the human condition. Other times, someone writes a story about an ongoing, 30-year game of tag.
Following the exploits of a group united by their annual, month-long challenges to catch each other unsuspecting in various places across the country, “Tag” faces the added challenge of finding the chemistry in a tight-knit friend group played by recognizable screen comedians. The result is much like the game it’s built around: fun for what it is, and equally disposable.
Ed Helms stars as “Hoagie” Malloy, a put-together family man who, along with wife Anna (Isla Fisher), reinvigorates the yearly challenge among his compatriots. Gathering bottomed-out stoner Chilli (Jake Johnson), high-flying CEO Bob Callahan (Jon Hamm), and insecure...

Superheroes are back to save the day — and the box office.
“Incredibles 2” will give the North American box office a nice boost this weekend as the Disney and Pixar animated superhero sequel is looking at a broad range between $125 million-$140 million when it bows at over 4,400 locations. A launch near the higher end of that estimate would earn the highly anticipated adventure the best opening weekend ever for an animated film.
That title currently belongs to another Pixar sequel, “Finding Dory.” The followup to 2003’s “Finding Nemo” launched in 2016 with $135 million and went on to pick up $486 million in North America and over $1 billion worldwide.
Like “Finding Dory,” enthusiasm has been strong for the sequel, which comes 14 years after its predecessor, “The Incredibles.” Early reception seems strong, as the film already boasts a 97% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. That’s on par with the acclaimed first film’s 97% average.

After its box office winning streak was snapped with “Solo: A Star Wars Story” flopping, Disney is turning to Pixar and “The Incredibles 2” to get back to its record-breaking ways.
And some box office trackers think that new records may indeed be set, as the sequel to Brad Bird’s superhero film could post the best opening weekend for an animated film in movie history. Pixar currently holds that record with “Finding Dory,” which made $135 million two years ago. Trackers are split on whether “Incredibles 2” will beat that, with some having it come just short at $125-130 million while others expect the new record to be set at $145 million.

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for Tag, a new game-centric comedy from director Jeff Tomsic (Broad City). Based on a true story, the film follows that follows a group of friends, who have been playing an annual game of tag for 30 years. When the one that’s never been tagged (Jeremy Renner) threatens to retire from their elaborate game, the group’s shenanigans kick into overdrive in an attempt to stop him. I have to say that while this trailer has a bit of a tone problem, there is a bit of fun in seeing this real-life concept come to fruition. In case you were unaware, The concept for Tag is based on the Wall Street Journal article titled, “It Takes Planning, Caution to Avoid Being It,” by Russell Adams.

Following the global success of 2014’s “Godzilla” and this year’s “Kong: Skull Island,” comes the next chapter in Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ cinematic MonsterVerse: an epic action adventure that pits Godzilla against some of the most popular monsters in pop culture history.
The film, which began principal photography on June 19, is being directed by Michael Dougherty (“Krampus”), and stars Oscar nominees Vera Farmiga (“Up in the Air,” “The Conjuring” films), and Ken Watanabe (“The Last Samurai”) and Sally Hawkins (“Blue Jasmine”), both reprising their “Godzilla” roles; Kyle Chandler (“The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Manchester by the Sea”); Millie Bobby Brown (“Stranger Things”) in her feature film debut; Bradley Whitford (“Get Out”); Thomas Middleditch (HBO’s “Silicon Valley”); Charles Dance (HBO’s “Game of Thrones”); O’Shea Jackson Jr. (“Straight Outta Compton”); Aisha Hinds (“Star Trek Into Darkness”); and Golden Globe nominee Zhang Ziyi (“Memoirs of a Geisha,” “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”).
The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.
Dougherty directs from a script he wrote with Zach Shields. The film is being produced by Mary Parent, Alex Garcia, Brian Rogers and Thomas Tull, with Barry H. Waldman, Zach Shields, Yoshimitsu Banno and Kenji Okuhira serving as executive producers and Alexandra Mendes co-producing for Legendary.
Behind the scenes, Dougherty’s creative team includes director of photography Lawrence Sher, whose past credits include “War Dogs” and “Godzilla,” for which he handled additional photography; production designer Scott Chambliss (“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” “Star Trek Into Darkness”); editor Roger Barton (“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” the “Transformers” films); costume designer Louise Migenbach (the “X-Men” and “Hangover” films); and Oscar-winning VFX supervisor Guillaume Rocheron (“Godzilla,” “Ghost in the Shell,” and part of the Oscar-winning team behind “Life of Pi ”).
Filming is taking place mainly in Atlanta, Georgia. A presentation of Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, the film is currently scheduled for release in March 2019, and will be distributed in 3D and 2D and in select IMAX theaters by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, except in Japan, where it will be distributed by Toho Co., Ltd.

The film’s starring ensemble cast is led by Ed Helms (The “Hangover” movies, “We’re the Millers”), Jake Johnson (TV’s “New Girl”), and Hannibal Buress (“Neighbors”), with Jon Hamm (“Baby Driver,” TV’s “Mad Men”) and Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner (“The Hurt Locker, “The Town”).
For one month every year, five highly competitive friends hit the ground running in a no-holds-barred game of tag they’ve been playing since the first grade—risking their necks, their jobs and their relationships to take each other down with the battle cry “You’re It!” This year, the game coincides with the wedding of their only undefeated player, which should finally make him an easy target. But he knows they’re coming…and he’s ready. Based on a true story, “Tag” shows how far some guys will go to be the last man standing.
The film also stars Annabelle Wallis (“The Mummy”), Rashida Jones (TV’s “Parks and Recreation”), Isla Fisher (“Now You See Me”) and Leslie Bibb (“Iron Man 2”).
Tomsic directs from a screenplay written by Mark Steilen (TV’s “Mozart in the Jungle”) and Rob McKittrick (“Waiting”), based on the Wall Street Journal article entitled “It Takes Planning, Caution to Avoid Being It.” The film is produced by Todd Garner, Mark Steilen and Sean Robins, with Hans Ritter serving as executive producer. The creative filmmaking team includes director of photography Larry Blanford, editor Josh Crockett, production designer David Sandefur, and costume designer Denise Wingate.
“Tag” is set for a June 29, 2018, release.

Will Ferrell and Jack Black – two names that either inspire cringing and cries of ‘overrated!’ or hysterical laughter. Whatever you think of them, they are certainly hot commodities and they have now joined what is perhaps the most epic game of ‘Tag’ ever, as both sign up for New Line’s comedy Tag Brothers.
Tag Brothers is based on a real-life Tag game that went on for 23 years between a group of friends in Spokane every February. It even escalated to the point of them breaking into each other’s homes and spying on each other, thus blurring the line between friendly game and sociopathy.
It sounds tailor-made for Ferrell and Black’s brand of extreme but self-aware comedy. I can already see the two of them battling for Tag supremacy in increasingly bizarre and potentially hazardous ways.

A couple of months ago we heard that a movie was going to be made about a 23-year-long game of tag that a group of friends, who call themselves the "Tag Brothers," have been playing since they were in high school. The Wrap is now reporting that Will Ferrell and Jack Black are attached to star in the film. When the movie was first announced it sounded like the kind of film that would pull in an ensemble comedy dream cast, and it looks like that's started.
The film will be adapted from a Wall Street Journal article that was just picked up by New Line Cinema. This is all based on real life events that are still going on today. Every February this group of friends continue to play their nationwide game of tag.

The two previously appeared in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy in quite an epic bridge confrontation, and now Jack Black and Will Ferrell are looking to reunite as Tag Brothers. New Line Cinema snagged the rights to a Wall Street Journal article about a group of former classmates from Washington who have a long-running, nationwide game of tag that happens throughout the entire month of February. The group of friends is now in their 40s, and try to balance their professional and personal lives while trying to avoid being "it" in a game that has them breaking into each other's offices and homes. Epic! At this point, The Wrap says Ferrell and Black are only loosely attached to the project, and their full involvement is contingent on a script from low profile writer Mark Steilen. Though you may not know any of his work, recently Steilen wrote the family...

"That's my chopper you just thrashed, Broseph!" Following up on a brief but memorable scene on screen together in Anchorman, Jack Black and Will Ferrell will be reuniting more prominently in New Line Cinema's Tag Brothers. The two funny men will play two of the four planned starring roles for the picture, which is based on a real-life ongoing game of tag between a group of former classmates who are now adults but have yet to outgrow their beloved game. The Wrap posted the news, stating that Tag Brothers is being written by Mark Steilen. The story is based on a piece the Wall Street Journal featured about a group of men, now in their 40s, who spend the month of February playing an intense game of tag while also trying to juggle their adult responsibilities. Back in January, a Wall Street Journal reporter wrote about a 23-year-old game of tag that has been played by a group of friends from Washington state. They started playing in high school and continued it through college. Eventually they developed rules. Whoever is "it" must travel to anywhere in the country to tag one of the other competitors. Once you're "it," you will remain "it" for an entire year. After the article was written, the friends have been receiving pitches from Hollywood producers, who wanted to turn their story into a movie. Now comes word that New Line acquired the rights. The studio already named the movie "Tag Brothers," hired Mark Steilen to write the script, and is already in negotiations with Will Ferrell and Jack Black to play two of the friends. There will be two other actors part of the main cast.

David Duchovny and Tea Leoni's banner And Then Prods. will be making some music with CBS Films.
CBS has acquired the comedy spec "Born to Rock" from writers Jess Walter and Mark Steilen, with Duchovny, Leoni and Dan Cortese producing and And Then's Susanna Jolly on board to exec produce.
The project revolves around a group of struggling, aging rock musicians who, because of a mixup in their demo tape, end up catching a record exec's attention for a children's
song written on a lark, then find unlikely success as a Wiggles-type children's band.
Duchovny, who described the project as "rock 'n' roll meets the sippy cup crowd," said that the mix of older musicians playing youth-oriented music had relevance. "It speaks to a cultural phenomenon that is happening right now in music," he said.
And Then conceived and developed the script, signing on Steilen and Walter to pen the screenplay.
Maria Faillace will oversee "Rock" for CBS.
The Amy Baer-led film unit is in development on a number of projects, including the Harrison Ford medical drama "Crowley" and the political thriller "Protect and Defend."
And Then is seeking to ramp up its feature production; the shingle is on board to produce historical drama "American Dreamers" as well as potential Leoni comedy vehicle "Sex Toy Lady" with Holding Pictures.
Steilen has collaborated with the Farrelly brothers on movies like "Stuck on You" and is penning the dueling-father comedy "Time Share" for Sony.
