Michael Stern, C.A.S., is a Music Producer, Engineer and Scoring Mixer based in Los Angeles who has been working in professional recording studios around the world since 1982. He has recorded and mixed approximately 260 film scores including Iron Man 2, Sex And The City 1 and 2, Dumb And Dumber To, August-Osage County, The Notebook, and recently, the #1 Amazon Prime film, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm. Michael has worked at every Los Angeles scoring stage as well as Abbey Road Studios in London.
Also involved in TV and Record Productions, he's worked on dozens of TV shows and Records. He has written of technical articles for The A & R Registry and Film Music Magazine for two decades. He is a member of IATSE MPEG Local 700, NARAS and AFM Local 47 and The Cinema Audio Society. Actively involved in charity fund-raising, he is an event producer for "The Get Together Foundation" and has raised $2 million Los Angeles charities, mostly focused on people experiencing homelessness as well as The City Of Hope Hospital and Musicares.
He also was recently featured in the July 2020 Mix Magazine and the December 2020 Music Connection Magazine for his mix of Diane Warren's Oscar nominated song, "I'm Standing With You", which helped raise over $7 for The United Nations-World health organizations Covid 19 relief fund. His latest work is completing mixing on the record, "Blues Travels Fast" by Michael Allman, Gregg Allman's first-born son, and "Thank You, Mister Rogers: Music & Memories", a multi-artist tribute to the late Fred Rogers.
Michael has had extensive experience being featured as a guest speaker for numerous events. In 2003, he was a guest speaker at the renowned SXSW, (South By Southwest Music Conference), as a recording expert on the same panel as Pharrell Williams. In 2002, Michael hosted a Master Class at Ball State College in Muncie, Indiana, and led the recording department in recording The Ball State Symphony Orchestra in a Hollywood style recording-scoring session. As the Recording Technology Columnist and Editor for Film Music Magazine at its inception, he participated as a speaker for dozens of Hollywood Film Scoring industry educational and networking events.
Additionally, as an early adopter of digital recording technology, Michael has taught private instruction Pro Tools and Digital Performer for many engineers and musicians who have gone on to have award winner careers.
Michael owns The Mix Lab West, which is a recording studio in Chatsworth, CA featuring 5.1 Surround and Stereo Mixing, and is the Chief Engineer at Rock Cellar Studios which features a 32' by 22' tracking / recording area with a Trident 88 analog console.
A graduate of the world-renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston, he was a double major in guitar and Music production and Engineering. His graduating class of 1985 was the very first graduating class for the MP& E major, and had a very special bunch of graduates, most of which still have vibrant careers in the music industry.
