Jour2Fête has acquired French distribution rights to Max Keegan’s “The Shepherd and the Bear” out of IDFA and is planning to release the film theatrically in 2025.

“The Shepherd and the Bear” will have its world premiere as the closing night film of the 2024 Camden International Film Festival in Maine. The documentary feature had its international premiere at IDFA, where it was nominated for best first feature.

The deal was negotiated by Elizabeth Woodward for Willa and Etienne Ollagnier and Sarah Chazelle for Jour2Fête. Willa is handling international sales on the film. Submarine Entertainment is handling domestic sales.

Exclusive: The prestigious Camden International Film Festival has announced a surprise addition to its 2024 lineup: The Shepherd and The Bear, a documentary described as a “modern folk tale.”

The film directed by Max Keegan and produced by Keegan, Elizabeth Woodward, and Emmy winners Amanda McBaine and Jesse Moss, will serve as the closing night film for Ciff’s 20th edition. Boss Team Games recently worked with Saber Interactive, Renaissance Pictures, Studiocanal, MGM, and Lionsgate to bring fans Evil Dead: The Game, a cool project that stopped developing new content surprisingly soon after it was released. Now Boss Team Games has moved on to a different popular horror franchise, as IGN reports that they’re working on two video games based on the 1978 classic Halloween!

Details on these Halloween games are scarce at this point, but IGN was able to confirm that Boss Team Games are developing them in collaboration with the producers of the Halloween franchise. They also learned that one of the games is being developed in Unreal Engine 5 and will include input from original Halloween John Carpenter. Charles Cyphers, best known for his role as Leigh Brackett in the Halloween films, died Sunday, August 4 from a brief illness in Tucson, Az, his manager Chris Roe confirmed to Deadline. He was 85.

“Charles was a lovable and sensitive man,” Roe said in a statement. “He always had the best stories, and you got a full performance while he told you. He was a close friend and client of many years who will be dearly missed.”

“His family asks for privacy at this time,” Roe added. “Details on a celebration of life ceremony will happen at a date and location to be determined.”

Magnolia Pictures and Participant have acquired North American rights to The Grab, Blackfish director Gabriela Cowperthwaite’s follow-up about an investigative journalist’s efforts to uncover the powers responsible for land grabs to control food and water resources.

The film premiered at TIFF last year and Magnolia and Participant will release theatrically and on demand on June 14.

Magnolia Pictures and Participant have partnered to jointly acquire North American rights to “The Grab,” a new documentary from “Blackfish” director Gabriela Cowperthwaite.

The film, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, follows journalists from The Center for Investigative Reporting as they work high-profile sources and utilize a cache of secret data to uncover the money and influence being used by countries, corporations and members of the uber-elite to control the planet’s most vital resources. Participant and Magnolia are positioning the film as a “high-stakes global thriller,” one that takes viewers from Arizona to Zambia as the moviemakers examine the food and water scarcity that’s resulting from this little-known power grab.

“We’re thrilled to reunite with our good friends at Participant and the great Gabriela Cowperthwaite who has, yet again, brought to light a nail biting, explosive, and essential story,” said Magnolia Pictures co-ceo’s Eamonn Bowles and Dori Begley.

Magnolia Pictures has acquired the U.S. rights to “Invisible Beauty, a documentary telling the story of fashion icon Bethann Hardison.

The film, co-directed by Hardison and Frédéric Tcheng, premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and recently screened at Tribeca. The picture is produced by Lisa Cortés with Naomi Campbell serving as an executive producer and will debut theatrically Sept. 15.

The picture shines a spotlight on Hardison, one of the fashion industry’s most influential icons who, as a pioneering Black model, modeling agent and entrepreneur, pushed the boundaries of fashion culture and has been at the forefront of progress throughout her career. Hillary Clinton’s HiddenLight Productions has partnered with Roger Ross Williams and “The Inspection” director Elegance Bratton on a feature documentary about 1979’s Disco Demolition Night in Chicago.

Known as one of the darkest days in American music history, the incident saw 50,000 white teenagers descend on Chicago’s Comiskey Park to blow up records made by mostly Black artists.

The doc, which is called “The Night Disco Died,” is a co-production between HiddenLight and One Story Up, and will be presented by Impact Partners and Los Angeles Media Fund (Lamf).

It’s got to be part of an on-going storyline. New main characters, yes, but supported by and related to legacy characters. Yesterday, January 16th, was the 75th birthday of legendary filmmaker John Carpenter, and a lot of fans made sure to watch some of Carpenter’s movies to celebrate. During the festivities, I also happened to stumble across video of an old interview with Carpenter, one that was conducted on the set of the 1978 classic Halloween (watch that Here) to be aired as an episode of Arena Cinema that was broadcast on BBC2 in early ’79. Coinciding with the British release of Halloween. This interview can be viewed in the embed at the bottom of this article.

Carpenter was at the beginning of his career at this point, having only two feature directing credits to his name: Dark Star and Assault on Precinct 13. Update: Our friends at Bloody Disgusting have been able to confirm that Radio Silence is in early talks with 20th Century Fox about directing an Escape from New York project, but Kurt Russell has not been contacted at this time.

That’s been the overarching question of the Halloween sequel trilogy that began with 2018’s Halloween, continued through 2021’s Halloween Kills, and completes this month with this Halloween Ends. The third movie’s title certainly sounds final, as if the lifelong murderer Michael Myers will be seeing his end. But its predecessor Halloween Kills featured a mob of Myers survivors chanting “evil dies tonight,” and still Myers lived. Where does one even begin with Halloween Kills? Is it paramount to speak of its content, which achieves the impossible of being so stretched out that it couldn’t feel more bloated? Or perhaps it’s important to focus on its structure, but that would assume there actually is one. Even attempting to approach it thematically is too much of a non-issue—any ideas it juggles never cohere. Halloween Kills seems to stem from thoughts of the system failing the innocent. That doesn’t work, however, when David Gordon Green’s latest completely fails its audience.

Set directly after the previous film, the first of two back-to-back sequels, Michael manages to free himself from Laurie’s trap, his ritual bloodbath resumes. As Laurie fights her pain and prepares to defend herself against him, she inspires all of Haddonfield to rise up against their unstoppable monster.

Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for “Halloween Kills,” which serves as the direct sequel to David Gordon Green’s “Halloween” and the 12th installment in the larger franchise. His film left off with Laurie sitting in a pick-up truck with her daughter and granddaughter after her house burned down amid a thrilling encounter with Michael Myers.

Green, the comedic director best known for “Pineapple Express” who transitioned to the horror genre, is directing and co-writing the entire trilogy of new “Halloween” films. The third and illusive final installment, “Halloween Ends,” will be released in theaters on Oct. 14, 2022.

Nick Castle, who played Michael Myers in the original 1978 “Halloween,” has returned to play the slasher icon alongside stunt double James Jude Courtney.

Exclusive: Discovery+ continues to ramp up it documentary slate. In a not-so-shocking announcement, Halloween Kills has officially been rated R. That’s exactly what we were expecting from the latest instalment in the iconic horror franchise, of course, which is not exactly known to cater to all the family, but the interesting thing is the description of why that rating’s been applied.

The MPAA’s official classification has just been turned in and it suggests that Kills is going to be even more brutal than the 2018 movie, as it’s been rated R for “strong bloody violence throughout, grisly images, language and some drug use.” Conversely, Blumhouse’s relaunch of the series achieved the same rating for “horror violence and bloody images, language, brief drug use and nudity.” Just as you’d expect from a horror sequel, then, it seems there’ll be more murder, mayhem and gore in the follow-up. Originally, we would’ve already got to see Halloween Kills about a month ago, and Blumhouse held off on moving back the much-anticipated sequel for the longest time. Unfortunately, though, there was just no other course open to them in the end, so now we’ve got another 11 months to wait until it finally hits theaters next October.

This puts the movie in a weird position where we’ve been hyped for it for a while now, meaning that when it eventually arrives, there’s a risk that we’ll be underwhelmed by the pic. Thankfully, though, producer Jason Blum doesn’t see much chance of that happening. While promoting his company’s latest effort, Freaky, he gave a brief comment on Kills to Inverse, promising that audiences will not be disappointed when they get to see it.

“Fans will be very happy, that’s all I’ll say.”

Were it not for Covid-19, we’d be enjoying Halloween Kills right now. David Gordon Green’s 2018 reworking of the franchise breathed new life into Michael Myers, ignoring the sequels and positioning itself as a direct continuation of the 1978 original. In 2021, Michael Myers will be back once again (after having escaped being trapped in a burning house) to menace not just Jamie Lee Curtis’ Laurie Strode, but some old friends from back in the day, too.

Universal released a new promo for the film yesterday teasing the returning characters, which include Kyle Richards as Lindsey Wallace, Nancy Stephens as Nurse Marion Chambers, Robert Longstreet as Lonnie Elam and Anthony Michael Hall as Tommy Doyle. They all survived Michael’s initial rampage, but something tells me only a few of them will make it into Halloween Ends in 2022.

Having pushed back the release a whole year from October 2020 to October 2021 due to the pandemic, the latest tease features the return of some familiar faces.

Today, Blumhouse unveiled a new teaser for Halloween Kills, just a little something to apologize to the fans for them having to wait another full year to see it. Given that we won’t be sitting down to watch the sequel for 12 months, we’ve seen a surprising amount of the movie already, and this promo only offered more. For instance, it revealed our first look at Michael Myers in the film, now worse for wear after his tussle with the Strode women in 2018’s Halloween.

The first footage from Halloween Kills was unveiled today during Blumfest, a one-day online event focused on new and upcoming movie and TV projects from the Blumhouse production company.

The sequel to 2018’s Halloween, the successful, acclaimed reboot and follow-up to John Carpenter’s original 1978 classic, is bringing back several legacy characters from that movie, with the teaser giving us our first quick glimpses of three of them. Take a look and see if you can spot them!

At approximately :20 in the 36-second trailer, that is Nancy Stephens as Nurse Marion Chambers, who was Dr. Sam Loomis’ assistant in the original Carpenter film and played the role in Halloween II (1981) and Halloween H20 (1998). In a new clip released Thursday, Strode is seen battling Michael Myers as her family is forced to confront the psychotic and murderous masked serial killer yet again. John Carpenter’s original 1978 movie introduced audiences to Michael Myers, a lethal mental patient who wrecks havoc on the fictional town of Haddonfield, Ill., after escaping from prison on Halloween night.

It’s Danielle Harris, who’s appeared in four installments of the horror series over the decades. The actress played Jamie Lloyd, daughter of Laurie Strode, in Halloweens 4-5 and then turned up as Annie Brackett in Rob Zombie’s reboot movies. To date, though, she’s yet to return for Blumhouse’s films. But Harris would definitely be up for it if she was asked back.

Until a few weeks ago, we were expecting Halloween Kills to be with us this October, but unfortunately, in early July we found out that Blumhouse had made the difficult decision to push the horror sequel’s release back by a whole year. We did get an awesome teaser (see above) for the movie, though, which promises that it’ll be worth the wait.

The trailer deliberately harked back to a classic installment in the franchise, so it felt very familiar in a good way, but now director David Gordon Green has given us some info on the new angle that this movie will take which will serve as a fresh way of looking at the threat of Michael Myers.

Blumhouse has been hard at work on Halloween Kills, the second installment in their Laurie Strode/Michael Myers trilogy, and it looks like the studio’s just about ready to share the first look at our next Halloween trip to Haddonfield.
