When Gary Gulman says he’s never been better, he means it. The comedian is hitting a stride with his first stand-up special for HBO called “The Great Depresh,” not to mention a cameo role in the film “Joker” opening this weekend.
But his real achievement was overcoming severe depression, trips to the psychiatric ward and suicidal tendencies that followed him for years. With “The Great Depresh,” the comedian is still making jokes about grade school water fountains, vocabulary and why he loves millennials, but he’s doing it from a place of vulnerability and openness about his depression he’s never shown on stage before.
“I’m terrific. Honestly, a lot of people say never better, and they’re lying, and they’ve never been worse. But I can say that I’ve never been better because maybe I was so bad for so long, that it’s easy to be never better,...

Brody Stevens is a comedian who has made a career of being manic onstage — he's wide-eyed and almost panicky, moving the microphone away from his mouth so he can shout more dramatically. Academy Award-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody has a celebrity talk show web series. It first aired back in July 2010 and is called Red Band Trailer because it’s taped out of Cody’s 19’ Airstream International and the title is a kinda clever play on the film industry term “red band trailers,” which don’t adhere to content guidelines established by decorum and the Motion Picture Association of America. And that makes for a very good analogy for Cody’s interviews. They don’t adhere to content guidelines established by decorum or people like Piers Morgan! Cody interviews famous individuals like Adamy Brody and Chelsea Handler with (as I said in my original assessment) a healthy mix of non sequitur storytelling and classic celebrity Q&A delivered by way of cute, sometimes too cute, smart and self-deprecating tones. Unfortunately, you can’t currently find the Brody chitchat, or the one with Handler,...

Zach Galifianakis has signed a new contract with HBO. According to Deadline, Galifianakis has agreed to a first-look deal with the cable network. The Hangover funnyman Zach Galifianakis, who co-stars on HBO's Bored To Death, has just inked a fresh first-look deal with the network on all of his future projects. The first upcoming project on the Galifianakis/HBO payroll? A low-budget comedy starring fellow comedian and Galifianakis friend Brody Stevens. Never heard of Brody Stevens? Yeah, neither have we.
The mockumentary series follows Stevens as he spoofs himself in a day-in-the-life look at a comedian's struggles or whatever. Galifianakis co-wrote and co-created, and is attached to guest star. So... a rip-off of FX's Louie, basically, but probably without the pathos and darkness that makes Louis C.K. stand out. I guess we'll see.

Even if you have a thing for the chubby, bearded comedian from The Hangover, HBO may be about to deliver more of him than you can handle soon. Zach Galifianakis has garnered a first-look deal with the premium cable giant; for the duration of the deal, HBO has first dibs on anything that Zach creates or wants to produce. Galifianakis is hilarious opposite Jason Schwartzman on Bored to Death, so it's obvious he can act for TV, but it remains to be seen whether or not he can write and produce for the small screen, too. The last TV show he produced was the ill-fated Dog Bites Man for Comedy Central, in 2006. Hopefully, his relationship with HBO lasts longer than nine episodes. Reportedly, the first project will be a low-budget mockumentary starring fellow comedian Brody Stevens. Stevens will play himself in a "day in the life"[...]...

Exclusive: The Hangover's Zach Galifianakis, who co-stars on HBO's comedy series Bored to Death, has expanded his relationship with the pay cable network through a first-look deal. The first project under the pact is a low-budget comedy presentation for HBO starring comedian Brody Stevens and directed by Jonathan Krisel. Galifianakis and Mike Gibbons co-created, wrote and are executive producing the presentation, which just wrapped production. It is a mocumentary starring Stevens as himself, which chronicles one day in the life of the comedian. Galifianakis appears in the presentation and is expected to guest star on the potential series. Stevens, described as a cross between George Plimpton and "Mr. Baseball" Bob Uecker, is a former amateur baseball player who began doing standup in the mid-1990s. He's been friends with fellow standup comedian Galifianakis for 10 years. The two met in Chicago when Stevens was opening for the Hangover star. According to Brody,...

It was appropriate that for the last Twitter-Wood update of 2010, the feed included plenty of examples of what made the year great. "Black Swan" reactions continued to appear, while Michael Ian Black and Brody Stevens wished horrible fates upon people for the new year and Seth MacFarlane proposed a New Year's resolution for anyone who hasn't picked one yet.

No matter who they're supporting, most of the faces in the Twitter-Wood feed discussing elections in the U.S. today just want you to get out and vote. Some expressed stronger recommendations, though, such as Sylvester Stallone, who used "The Manchurian Candidate" to help illustrate his point.

Nestled in the foothills of northern California, the Nevada City Film Festival has evolved from a locals-only fest into a four-day international smorgasbord of short films, plus a couple of features thrown in for good measure. There’s also filmmaking panels, award ceremonies, a live comedy show and some very special guests.
This year, Ncff welcomes Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim of the Adult Swim hit Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! On the 21st, they’ll be screening a very special selection of shorts and music videos from the show.
The features they’re screening are Brett Haley’s The New Year, which stars indie breakout actress Trieste Kelly Dunn (Vacation!); Stuck! by underground bad boy director Steve Balderson; and the innovative animated film Mars, directed by Geoff Marslett, who way back in the day (1999) directed the underground music video Monkey vs. Robot for James Kolchaka.
