- Her performance in Marigold (1938) brought an invitation to Hollywood to appear in Nurse Edith Cavell (1939), but disillusionment sent her back to England in 1943, where she continued to appear in plays.
- Scottish star of radio and the theatre. She had at first intended for a career as a ballet dancer, but an accident put an end to this ambition. She enrolled at RADA instead and was cast in key roles on the classical stage before the age of twenty. Her screen career was rather less distinguished, though she appeared in several British films of the 1930's, 40's and 50's, mostly in supporting roles.
