F. Paul Sylos was born in Brooklyn, and studied at Yale, before he started working in in advertising industry. Later he became an illustrator of the Liberty Magazine and designed covers for McFadden publications, he also worked as mural painter. In 1935 he became art director for small Hollywood studios before moving onto the larger ones.
