Director Jonás Cuarón reimagines the terrifying mythical beast as a cute and furry little creature in Netflix’s Chupa. The two-minute trailer for the family-friendly adventure confirms this incredibly adorable baby chupacabra looks nothing like a goat-killing, nightmare-inducing monster.

“I was a small kid when the legend started. When the idea came of turning [the myth] on its head and using it to tell a family adventure, I was immediately excited,” said Cuarón in an interview with Netflix’s Tudum. “I’ve always been a huge fan of E.T. and believe that stories like that are so powerful because they play on the idea of kids being misunderstood by adults. Although Netflix’s family adventure Chupa is inspired by the legend of the chupacabra, director Jonás Cuarón was determined to make the creature at the heart of his film much less fearsome than the mythical creature. “Our goal was to create an incredibly cute creature based on a terrifying legend,” said Cuarón in an interview with Netflix’s Tudum. “The mythical creature was described as a hairless dog with wings and sharp teeth. Chupa is furry and incredibly cute.”

The first photos from Chupa confirm this creature, at least as a youngster, is anything but terrifying.

Grandave International has secured worldwide sales rights to Gringo Hunter, the new film from director Ruben Islas.

It will launch sales on the film at next week’s European Film Market, where it is also selling two other films by Islas: Final Vow and The Last Call. All three films are in post-production.

The story of Félix Gallardo isn’t over yet, as Netflix has renewed “Narcos: Mexico” for a second season, the streamer announced Wednesday. The renewal comes just three weeks after the first season’s Nov. 16 premiere. No return date has been set.

“Narcos: Mexico” charts the origins of the country’s drug war through the rise and fall of the Guadalajara Cartel under Miguel Angel Félix Gallardo. Season 1 follows Gallardo as he unites Mexico’s disparate smuggling organizations into the country’s first global drug empire, while DEA agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena’s efforts to expose the operation lead him to a horrific outcome with decades-long geopolitical consequences.

After spending three seasons in Colombia, Netflix’s drug trafficking drama is heading to Mexico. Narcos: Mexico will feature new characters including roles played by Michael Pena and Diego Luna.

Hong Kong, May 1: Director Mariana Chenillo's "Cinco dias sin Nora" and Gabriel Guzman's comedy "La nuera de Don Filemon" will open the Second Mexican Film Festival in Hong Kong Monday.

"Salvando al soldado Perez", a comedy directed by Beto Gomez and starring Gerardo Taracena, Joaquin Cosio and Jaime Camil, will make its debut at the festival, along with "La ultima muerte", a science.

Picturehouse's "Pan's Labyrinth" and ABC's "Ugly Betty" were the evening's big winners during the 22nd annual Imagen Awards at the Walt Disney Concert Hall on Saturday night.

The Imagens, which honor Latino achievement in the entertainment industry, handed three awards to "Labyrinth", including best picture and nods for director Guillermo Del Toro and lead actress Ivana Baquero. "Betty" scored as best primetime series, and the show's America Ferrera and Ana Ortiz received the best TV actress and best supporting TV actress prizes, respectively. Ferrera, who burst into national consciousness this past year with her role in "Betty", also was honored with the Creative Achievement Award.

Kuno Becker, star of 2005's "Goal! The Dream Begins," was named best film actor, and Gerardo Taracena, who portrayed the evil Middle Eye in Buena Vista's "Apocalypto", garnered the best supporting film actor award.
