For years, Awesome Art We’ve Found Around The Net has been about two things only – awesome art and the artists that create it. With that in mind, we thought why not take the first week of the month to showcase these awesome artists even more? Welcome to “Awesome Artist We’ve Found Around The Net.” In this column, we are focusing on one artist and the awesome art that they create, whether they be amateur, up and coming, or well established. The goal is to uncover these artists so even more people become familiar with them. We ask these artists a few questions to see their origins, influences, and more. If you are an awesome artist or know someone that should be featured, feel free to contact me at any time at theodorebond@joblo.com.This month we are very pleased to bring you the awesome art of…

Back in March 2023, the Austin-based collectibles and poster company Mondo was hit with a wave of layoffs from parent company Funko, including the company’s former co-founders and creative directors. Today, those leaders have announced their comeback.
Former Mondo creative directors Spencer Hickman, Eric Garza, Mitch Putnam, and Mo Shafeek have teamed up with CEO Jenny Jacobi to form a new company called Mutant, which will release limited-edition artwork, posters, soundtracks on vinyl, collectibles, events, and more.
The company is being formed underneath SpectreVision, Elijah Wood and Daniel Noah’s genre-bending production company. The company is kicking off its launch with a vinyl soundtrack for Netflix’s “Society of the Snow.” The LP features artwork from Mo Shafeek adorning the score from composer Michael Giacchino as well as liner notes from director J.A. Bayona.

Mondo, the greatest boutique pop culture poster company of all time, is dead.
Or rather, it's on the verge of death. A new report from The Wrap says that Funko, the new-ish corporate overlords of the once omnipresent, Austin-based collectibles company, has shut down Mondo's poster division and fired the majority of the staff, including the company's co-founders. And while we don't know what that means for their toy and vinyl divisions, this is a real "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom"-type situation. Even if the body is still alive, the heart has been ripped out.
But the sad truth is that Mondo has been struggling for years, often against a landscape it helped create and define. There was a time when Mondo produced the coolest pop culture art in the world. It was vital. The latest Mondo poster was the sought-after item for movie fans wanting to...

Funko, less than a year after acquiring high-end collectibles brand Mondo, has wound down Mondo’s current movie-poster business and let go several employees — including Mondo co-founders Mitch Putnam and Rob Jones, Variety has confirmed.
Mondo, based in Austin, Texas, was founded in 2004 and was previously a subsidiary of indie theater chain Alamo Drafthouse before Funko inked a deal to buy it last year for $14 million. Mondo had gained a strong following for its limited-edition screen-printed movie posters. Notable artists who worked with Mondo have included Olly Moss, Shepard Fairey, Ken Taylor and Kevin Tong. Sources said that Mondo’s vinyl records and collectibles businesses are intact.
In addition to Putnam and Jones, Mondo senior creative director Eric Garza also has been laid off. For now, it appears that Mondo’s poster division is defunct; however, a source familiar with the situation said Funko expects Mondo to continue producing posters going forward.

With his 2012 film "Argo," Ben Affleck was able to break out of Boston, particularly the crime thrillers on which he'd made his name. As good as "Gone Baby Gone" and "The Town" were, "Argo" was a film of greater scope and ambition, telling a (somewhat) true story set at the height of the 1970s Iranian Revolution. In particular, it deals with the efforts of the CIA to extract six American embassy staffers who evaded mass arrest by the Iranian government by hiding out in the home of Canadian ambassador Ken Taylor.

We Americans have a bad habit of taking credit for things we really shouldn't in historical movies that are, supposedly, based on facts. Remember "Argo," the Best Picture Oscar-winning 2012 film where the CIA all but single-handedly saves the day during the Iran Hostage Crisis? In truth, the Canadian ambassador to Iran at the time, Ken Taylor, and Canadian embassy employee John Sheardown (who's not even in the movie) were far more directly involved in the rescue operation than the on-screen version of the story indicates.
Compared to 2000's "U-571," however, "Argo" is a stickler for facts. Directed by Jonathan Mostow ("Breakdown," "Terminator 3: Rise of the...

There is a common thread between the television series True Detective, The Man in the High Castle, Westworld, Nine Perfect Strangers, and The Crown: the contribution of Aussies Raoul Marks and Patrick Clair.
The directors of production studio Antibody have been responsible for crafting main title sequences across streaming and network platforms in the eight years they have been working together, with Clair assuming the role of creative director and Marks acting as the art director and lead compositor.
It’s a creative partnership that has spawned more than 20 Outstanding Main Title Design Emmy nominations between them, as well as wins in 2014 and 2016 for True Detective and The Man in the High Castle, respectively.
They are again listed in the category this year for their work on HBO’s supernatural horror drama Lovecraft Country, in which they collaborated with renowned Melbourne illustrator Ken Taylor.

The Batman Burtonverse is coming back in a big way. Not only is Warner Bros. bringing back Michael Keaton as Batman in the upcoming Flash movie but DC Comics is set to publish a 6-issue limited series that explores what happened next after Tim Burton’s first Gotham City outing rolled credits.
Batman ’89 brings together the movie’s original screenwriter, Sam Hamm, with artist Joe Quinones, who has been tied to a revival of the Burtonverse in the comics for quite some time. Quinones previously pitched a similar miniseries to DC, at the time to be written by Kate Leth (Hellcat). While the idea was rejected, Quinones’ designs for a comic book sequel to Batman have received tons of praise from fans in the years since. It’s no surprise, then, that the idea stuck at DC, and that we’ll finally get to see Quinones’ take on the Burtonverse.

It’d be hard to meet someone who grew up in the 70s and 80s without knowing about Sylvester Stallone and his myriad of major hit films. He brought to life fictional boxer Rocky Balboa in the Rocky franchise, starred alongside Kurt Russell in the buddy cop flick Tango & Cash, and even took a stab at musical comedy with Dolly Parton in Rhinestone. And though he’s well-known for those movies and more, one film series really put him on the map as the badass action star he became synonymous with over the years.
Stallone’s role as Vietnam veteran John Rambo for the 1982 action-thriller First Blood made him a sensation in the industry. The pic tells the story of a former Green Beret traveling by foot who stumbles upon abusive law enforcement while passing through a rural town. When he reacts to their unnecessary aggression by fighting back and escaping,...

Mondo has released several new pieces of poster art for their Universal Monster tribute gallery. It features new art depicting The Mummy, Frankenstein, The Wolfman, The Bride of Frankenstein, The Invisible Man, The Creature From the Black Lagoon, and Dracula.
The Mondo Gallery has been hosting Universal Studio's classic monsters this month from Jan. 19 - Jan. 27, and this art collection is pretty incredible. There's some beautiful work here. When I look at this art for these classic horror films, It makes me sad that Universal Pictures and their team of talent don't really know how to handle these amazing characters for their Dark Universe reboot films. This is their inspiration, and they haven't been able to capture the greatness of it yet.
Mitch Putnam, Mondo creative director, had this to say in a statement:

Mondo Gallery is putting some of the most iconic and feared monsters in the spotlight this month.
Dracula will join The Wolf Man, The Mummy and the Creature From The Black Lagoon, Frankenstein, and more to haunt an Austin art gallery.
The Mondo Gallery is hosting Universal Studio's classic monsters through the latter part of this month, Jan. 19 - Jan. 27, and THR got an exclusive look at some of the art that will be on display. It's something that Mondo says they are very excited about. Mitch Putnam, Mondo creative director, had this to say in a statement:
