- Close friends with Joe Mantegna. The pair were friends for over 40 years.
- Received his Bachelor's degree in Theatre from Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Florida (1993).
- Attended and graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1964.
- Survived by his wife, Bianca Taylor; daughters Tamar, Esme and Yasmine; son Tariq; and four grandchildren.
- He was the only actor to appear in both Mannequin (1987) and Mannequin: On the Move (1991).
- He was nominated for a 1979 Joseph Jefferson Award for Actor in a Principal Role in a Play for "Native Son", at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago, Illinois.
- He was awarded the 1977 Joseph Jefferson Award for Actor in a Principal Role in a Play for his performance in "Sizwe Banzi is Dead", at the Goodman Stage II Theatre in Chicago, Illinois.
- Following his death, he was interred at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles, California.
