- Was part of the inner circle of Disney animators, known as the "nine old men". The other members were Ollie Johnston, Milt Kahl, Marc Davis, Eric Larson, Wolfgang Reitherman, Ward Kimball, John Lounsbery and Les Clark.).
- His son and Ollie Johnston's son were born only six days apart.
- He was cremated. His ashes were given to his widow. After her passing, her ashes were put into the same urn as Frank.

Then he'd say this is Frank Thomas who animated the stepmother. The audience would go, "ugh". I told Walt we needed to get another picture because I couldn't stand it.
