Biography

Michael Thomas has been involved with commercial, documentary and feature film production since 1977, serving primarily as writer, producer, line producer and cameraman. His film career began with a collaboration in the mid 70s on several feature films with award winning, avant-garde filmmaker Walter Ungerer and Dark Horse Films. There he served as cameraman and later as production manager. Mr. Thomas established September Films in 1985 as an independent production management organization based in New York City.

His television credits include NBC's "Saturday Night Live" and over 100 national commercials, primarily with Johnston Films, New York. "Deadly Illusion", 1989, (feature), Columbia Pictures, featuring Billy Dee Williams, Morgan Fairchild. "Return to Salem's Lot," 1988, (feature), Warner Bros., based on a Stephen King novel, featuring Michael Moriarity, Sam Fuller, directed by Larry Cohen.

Thomas has received numerous awards and grants including the National Endownment for the Arts, the Vermont Council on the Arts and the Edwards Foundation grant. Festivals, exhibitions and broadcasts include the Toronto Film Festival, Montreal Film Festival, MOMA: New Directors/ New Films, the Museum of Modern Art's Cineprobe Series, HBO, PBS, WDR Germany, the 4th Channel Great Britain, Tours International Film Festival France and the Athens International Film Festival.

Michael Thomas/September Films is presently in development on a documentary feature focusing on the ongoing conflict in Afghanistan. In addition he is collaborating and developing a feature script based on actual events during the Vietnam era.
