Image
Amazon Prime Video’s Reacher will see a familiar face as Maria Sten returns for the action series’ second season.

Months after the streamer picked up the Alan Ritchson-fronted series for Season 2, Prime Video shared that Sten will reprise her role of Frances Neagley. Ritchson, who stars as Jack Reacher, revealed on Wednesday that the upcoming chapter seeks to cover Lee Child’s Bad Luck and Trouble, the 11th book in the Jack Reacher series. The first season was based on Child’s Killing Floor.

From writer and showrunner Nick Santora, the series follows Jack Reacher, a veteran military police investigator who has just recently entered civilian life. Reacher is a drifter, carrying no phone and the barest of essentials as he travels the country and explores the nation he once served. When Reacher arrives in the small town of Margrave, Georgia, he finds a community grappling with its first homicide in 20 years.

‘Reacher’ Renewed For Season 2 At Amazon
Image
Jack Reacher is returning.

Amazon has renewed Alan Ritchson-fronted action drama series Reacher for a second season.

The fast turnaround renewal comes three days after the streamer launched the Lee Child adaptation.

Amazon said that Reacher ranked in its top five most-watched series ever in the U.S. and globally over a 24-hour period – though it’s worth noting that all eight episodes of the series launched at once. The company added that it also was among its highest-rated original series, with subscribers giving it an average rating of 4.7 out of 5.

From writer Nick Santora, the series follows Jack Reacher, a veteran military police investigator who has just recently entered civilian life. Reacher is a drifter, carrying no phone and the barest of essentials as he travels the country and explores the nation he once served. ‘Reacher’ Renewed for Season 2 at Amazon
Image
“Reacher” has snagged an early Season 2 renewal at Amazon.

The action thriller series debuted on the streamer just three days ago, on Feb. 4. It is based on the Jack Reacher novel series by Lee Child. The first season is based on the debut novel in the series, “Killing Floor,” which was released in 1997. Per Amazon, the show is already one of their top five most-watched shows of all time, though it must be noted that Amazon also does not provide viewership numbers.

Ritchson stars in the title role as Jack Reacher, a veteran military police investigator who has just recently entered civilian life. When he arrives in the small town of Margrave, Georgia, he finds a community grappling with its first homicide in 20 years. The cops immediately arrest him and eyewitnesses claim to place Reacher at the scene of the crime. While he works to prove his innocence, a deep-seated conspiracy begins to emerge.

Stephen King at an event for The Manchurian Candidate (2004)
Epix’s ‘Chapelwaite’ Review: Adrien Brody Horror Series Hits You Like a Stake in the Heart
Stephen King at an event for The Manchurian Candidate (2004)
2021 hasn’t exactly been the year of great Stephen King adaptations on the small screen. “Lisey’s Story” wasn’t the cerebral thriller it should have been. And the newest attempt at “The Stand” was a major dud almost from its onset. But, as they say, the third time’s a charm with “Chapelwaite,” a pitch-black horror set in 1850s Maine, where vampires rule the looming eternal night.

Like many great “Nosferatu”-lite narratives, “Chapelwaite,” based upon King’s “Jerusalem’s Lot,” isn’t merely fixated on the bloodthirsty undead stalking the innocent humans trembling in their candlelit homes; it explores our relationship with death, grief, family and what it means to have eternal life. It begins at Chapelwaite manor, where in 1817 a petrified young boy named Charles Boone unsuccessfully attempts to escape his rabid, shovel-wielding father (Sebastien Labelle), who’s dug a grave in his name right outside their home.

Jacki Weaver
“Stage Mother” Is A Dramedy That Doesn’t Leave Enough Of A Lasting Impression
Jacki Weaver
Giving a leading role to Jacki Weaver is something any filmmaker should be commended for. The veteran actress is a welcome presence anywhere, no matter the topic. Casting her as the lead in a fish out of water type dramedy? Well, that should be the main ingredient to a delicious cinematic dish. Unfortunately, Stage Mother ends up more like a fast food dish when you were hoping for fine dining. Does it mostly get the job done? Sure, but it also doesn’t particularly satisfy you. The premise, along with Weaver’s talents, ultimately keep this from being something that leaves an impression on you. Opening this week, it’s a missed opportunity for something wonderful. The movie is a dramedy, focused on a southern woman evolution in the Bay Area. When Maybelline (Weaver), a conservative, Texas church-choir director finds out that her son Rickey (Eldon Thiele) has passed away from a drug overdose,...

‘Stage Mother’: Film Review
Image
The late Richard Benner’s 1977 “Outrageous!” blazed trails as both a hit Canadian export and positive screen depiction of gay life, two relative rarities at the time. Even then, some gay viewers found the funny-sad friendship between a hairdresser/professional drag queen and a young schizophrenic woman a bit old-fashioned. But everybody was won over by Craig Russell’s stage impersonations of Hollywood stars — schmaltz and camp being a reliable combination for gay cinema with crossover ambitions.

That formula has scarcely altered 43 years later for “Stage Mother.” It’s the latest from Thom Fitzgerald, whose 1997 “The Hanging Garden” was also shot in Nova Scotia, and helped herald a new, perhaps more politically bold and artistically adventuresome generation of gay Canadian filmmakers. His more recent work has fitted into a time-tested mould of sentimental seriocomedy, however. This tale of a small-town Texas matron who inherits her estranged son’s San Francisco drag bar offers up smiles,...

It’s the second narrative film Gibney has signed on for, following the political thriller The Action, which was announced last year and for which Scott Z. Burns has written the screenplay.

Oliver Stone Heading for Pinkville with Shia Labeouf?
This is a bit of news we missed in the relative festive downtime, but it’s an intriguing prospect for both Oliver Stone and Shia Labeouf.

Following their turn together in last year’s Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps Stone revealed in the Ws: Mns Blu-ray commentary track that during the making of the film Stone and Labeouf mulled over the prospect of the young actor taking the lead in Stone’s long delayed film Pinkville.

Production of the film was delayed in 2007 by the Writer’s Strike and no official word has revealed that Pinkville is back on but it has all the hallmarks of an Oliver Stone film. Telling the story of the 1968 massacre at My Lai when nearly 500 Vietnamese civilians were killed by American forces before a Us pilot stopped the killings by standing between his Army and their intended victims.

The incident was to have massive political repercussions.

Stone Eyes Labeouf For Pinkville Reboot
Oliver Stone
Director Oliver Stone wants Shia Labeouf to head to the battlefield and lead the cast of his previously shelved Vietnam War drama Pinkville.

The filmmaker's project was due to begin production in December 2007 with Channing Tatum as the male lead, but it was put on hold indefinitely as a result of a strike by members of the Writers Guild of America that year.

However, Stone is keen to kickstart work on the movie and has now tipped his Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps star Labeouf to feature in the story of the My Lai Massacre in 1968, when hundreds of Vietnamese citizens were killed by U.S. soldiers.

If the young actor signs up for the role of heroic pilot Hugh Thompson, who helped to bring an end to the killings, it will be of personal significance for him - his father was a helicopter pilot during the battle.

Oliver Stone’s ‘Pinkville’ May Live, and with a New Lead
Telling the story of the My Lai massacre that was carried out by Us soldiers in Vietnam, Oliver Stone’s film Pinkville has been stalled for several years now. While it originally sported a cast that included Bruce Willis and Woody Harrelson, various things, including the WGA strike of fall 2007, kept it from being made in its original form.

But the project may not be dead, after all. As a story at IGN (via /Film) tells us that Stone is considering casting his Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps lead Shia Labeouf for the crucial role of helicopter pilot Hugh Thompson, which was originally planned for Channing Tatum.

Nothing else has been said regarding this casting, other than the interesting piece of news saying that Labeouf has an interest in the subject matter since his father was himself a helicopter pilot in Vietnam. Otherwise, no news regarding funding or shooting has come to light.

Shia Labeouf Circling Oliver Stone's Pinkville
Shia Labeouf is interested in re-teaming with Oliver Stone for the upcoming Vietnam War drama Pinkville.

The news was revealed by Stone during his commentary track on the Blu-ray release of Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps that they had discussed the possibility of reteaming for Pinkville during filming of the sequel. Stone stated that Labeouf is interesting in exploring the subject matter because his father was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam.

Stone had planned to start filming Pinkville in Southeast Asia in December 2007, but the film was set aside becaues of the upcoming Writers Guild strike. At the time the cast included Bruce Willis, Channing Tatum, Michael Pena, Woody Harrelson, Xzibit, Michael Pitt, Toby Jones, Jason Behr and Cam Gigandet.

It is not know what role Labeouf is interested in playing, but based on his age and fathers role in the war as a chopper pilot it is likely that...

Shia Labeouf Interested in Oliver Stone's 'Pinkville'
We've got some interesting casting news in what has been an otherwise lackluster week for movie news.  I blame the holidays and Hollywood for being lazy.

According to IGN, Oliver Stone revealed on the audio commentary track of the Blu-ray and DVD releases of Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps that he wanted to resurrect his Vietnam War project Pinkville with Shia Labeouf as his lead.

Apparently, the two often discussed Pinkville on the set of the Wall Street sequel.  Labeouf's interest coming from the fact that his father was a helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War, which makes sense considering he would be playing helicopter pilot Hugh Thompson in Pinkville. ...

Shia Labeouf May Head to Oliver Stone’s ‘Pinkville’
In 2007, director extraordinaire Oliver Stone was prepping to shoot the Vietnam War film, “Pinkville,” when that pesky writers’ strike derailed production. Though Bruce Willis and Woody Harrelson were slated for the leads, it still looked as if the movie might be dead in the water.

Until now.

Stone recently revealed that he and “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” star Shia Labeouf have been discussing a possible reunion to resurrect “Pinkville,” Collider reports.

Labeouf is drawn to the story because his father was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam. Early speculation places the star in the role of Hugh Thompson, who was a helicopter pilot just like Labeouf’s dad, as well as a true war hero.

Thompson came upon the My Lai Massacre on March 16, 1968—in which 350-500 unarmed South Vietnamese citizens were being beaten, tortured and murdered by a U.S. Army unit—and did everything he could to evacuate...

Shia Labeouf to Re-Team with Oliver Stone for Pinkville?
Back in 2007, Oliver Stone was ready to begin shooting "Pinkville," based on the infamous 1968 My Lai Massacre, in which upward of 500 people - mostly women, children and the elderly - were killed by Us soldiers. Despite having most pieces in place, including a cast comprised of Bruce Willis, Channing Tatum, Woody Harrelson, Michael Pena, Xzibit, Michael Pitt, Toby Jones, Jason Behr and Cam Gigandet, "Pinkville" was one of many films that fell apart due to the writers strike. Now, on the commentary track of "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" Blu-ray, Stone revealed that he and Shia Labeouf have discussed reuniting for "Pinkville." The director said that Labeouf is interested in exploring the subject matter because his father was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam. It's likely that Labeouf would play Hugh Thompson, the role Tatum was initially set to play. Thompson was the Us Army helicopter pilot who stopped the massacre...

Oliver Stone Revisits Pinkville With Shia Labeouf
In 2007, Oliver Stone was prepping to shoot Pinkville, a film about the Vietnam War's My Lai Massacre.  Bruce Willis and Woody Harrelson were set to star before the 2007-08 writers' strike derailed production.  It seemed like Pinkville might be shelved forever, but Stone may have found the ticket to revive the project: Shia Labeouf. Stone revealed in the commentary track for the Blu-ray release of Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps that he and Labeouf have discussed reuniting to film Pinkville.  Labeouf is drawn to the subject matter because his father was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam.  More after the jump: The My Lai Massacre designates the murder of approximately 350-500 unarmed South Vietnamese citizens by a U.S. Army unit on March 16, 1968.  Many of the victims were beaten, tortured, or sexually abused. Early guesswork puts Labeouf in the role of Hugh Thompson who was, like Labeouf's dad, a helicopter pilot.

Shia Labeouf and Oliver Stone May Reunite in 'Pinkville'
Oliver Stone is planning to recruit Shia Labeouf for his other project. After working together in "Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps", the helmer reveals in commentary track for the movie that he and the actor have discussed about the possibility of reteaming for "Pinkville".

According to IGN, Stone says Labeouf is interested in exploring the subject matter because his father was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam. The site also reports that Labeouf would portray Hugh Thompson, a Us Army helicopter pilot. The role was previously set for Channing Tatum.

Set in March 1968 when the My Lai massacre took place, the Vietnam War investigative drama will revolve around Thompson who saw Us soldiers killing unarmed civilians in the hamlet of My Lai. He then reported this massacre and stopped it.

"Pinkville" was originally set to start filming in Southeast Asia in December 2007 but was shelved due to the then-impending Writers Guild strike.

Will Oliver Stone Cast Shia Labeouf in His Long-Gestating ‘Pinkville’?
Oliver Stone
For several years, Oliver Stone has been toying with a new Vietnam War film called Pinkville, which would be oriented around the Mai Lai Massacre of 1968. In 2007 the movie seemed on the verge of shooting. It had a cast: Bruce Willis, Woody Harrelson, Michael Pitt, Channing Tatum, Michael Pena and more. But the writer's strike put a block in front of the film, and it never got back on track. Now, Oliver Stone says on the commentary track for Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps that he has talked to Shia Labeouf about acting in Pinkville. IGN [1] reports the mention and suggests that Mr. LeBeouf would take the role formerly set for Channing Tatum: Hugh Thompson, a Us Army helicopter pilot. Pinkville could be a very difficult film. It is based around a massacre where Us forces were the bad guys, and while Vietnam isn't the hot-button issue it once was,...
