Joe Thornton, an Alberta ranch born Metis [in Canada, an historical melding of First Nations - (in this case Cree and European fur traders) that developed deeply interconnected family bloodlines and connections and are recognized as aboriginal in the Canadian Constitution], is a thirty year veteran of the motion picture industry. Coming from a theatrical background he studied film making at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology.
He has worked as a development Producer. He was a Trainee Show Runner and developer on APTN's successful series Cashing In and a creative Producer on the award nominated animated series "Raventales". An insatiable lifelong learner, he is constantly researching, writing and making show pitches in addition to doing extensive genealogy research and writing a novel based on family history.
He has been a Line Producer on German, Belgian and Japanese shows. He was the Canadian Producer for the Award winning Dutch - NCRV TV series "The Summer of '45" (De zomer van '45).
