Musician and producer Rick Derringer has died at the age of 77. Derringer is remembered for his work across a variety of genres. With his band, The McCoys, he recorded the iconic 1960s rock track "Hang On Sloopy," and he would go on to work with 1980s icons Hulk Hogan and Weird Al Yankovic. The Associated Press reports that Derringer's death was announced by his caretaker, Tony Wilson; no cause of death was given.

Derringer was born Richard Zehringer on August 5, 1947, in Celina, Ohio. His parents had an extensive record collection and his uncle, Jim Thornburg, was a popular local guitarist, inspiring Derringer to pursue a career in music. As a teenager, his family moved to Union City, Indiana, where he formed The McCoys. “With a career spanning six decades, the legendary Rick Derringer left an indelible mark on the music industry as a guitarist, singer-songwriter and producer,” Wilson said in a statement on Facebook. He didn’t disclose a cause of death but said Derringer died in Ormond Beach, Florida. “Derringer’s legacy extends beyond his music, entertaining fans with his signature energy and talent. His passing leaves a void in the music world, and he will be deeply missed by fans, colleagues, and loved ones.”

Wilson wrote that “out of respect for Rick Derringer’s family and loved ones, details regarding funeral arrangements and memorial services will be announced” at a later date.

Jamie Lee Curtis may have earned herself another Academy Award nomination thanks to her impressive performance in The Last Showgirl, but it might not be enough to win her the award. James Gunn's previous experience in the superhero genre, directing films both in the Dceu and the MCU, will help him and Peter Safran restart the Dcu franchise. At the same time, the filmmaker will not rely heavily on his previous films for the first entry in the franchise, 2025's Superman.

The Dcu has mapped up the upcoming media that will be a part of Chapter 1: Gods & Monsters, which started with the animated series Creature Commandos and the upcoming feature film Superman. The balance between comedy and drama can be hard to get right, but Sweetpea's exciting cast of characters helps bring a light-hearted feel to the British drama, while Ella Purnell's Rhiannon Lewis brings some sinister vibes. Despite developing murderous tendencies, Rhiannon maintains her endearing traits, creating a twistedly complicated protagonist. However, these qualities are what makes Sweetpea's reviews so good and the show's excellent soundtrack compliments the action and humorous moments perfectly.

While the series is filled predominately with pop music, the songs are used in a clever way that often conveys an intense and even unsettling atmosphere on occasion. Sweetpea episodes 1 and 2 use these catchy tracks to help build an identity, treating the audience to some bangers in the process.

As much as we love watching the over-the-top performances on “The Masked Singer,” we get even more pleasure from figuring out the names of the celebrities competing. Wednesday night’s “The Masked Singer” reveal was an emotional one for “Community” star Yvette Nicole Brown, who was unmasked as Showbird on episode 2 of Season 12. As Brown was taping the episode she was also dealing with some personal matters involving the care of her father.

“Some of it felt heavy because I’m singing, but I’m thinking, ‘is daddy Ok,’” she told Variety. “But by the time I was revealed, I was able to kind of let that all out. Plus I got to surprise Ken, and it was everything that I hoped it would be!”

That’s “Ken” as in “The Masked Singer” panelist Ken Jeong, Brown’s “Community” co-star who of course guessed her right. Among the other panelists, Robin Thicke agreed with Jeong, while Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg thought it was Taraji P. Henson.

Amazon MGM Studios has released the trailer for action-comedy “Jackpot!,” starring Awkwafina, John Cena and Simu Liu. The film will premiere on Prime Video on Aug. 15.

The film is set in 2030, when a grand lottery competition has been established in California. L.A. transplant and aspiring actor Katie (Awkwafina) gets a winning ticket, but the lottery has a catch: other people can kill her before sundown to legally claim the multi-billion dollar jackpot.

After hordes of people chase her throughout the city, she joins forces with amateur lottery protection agent Noel Cassidy (Cena), who has to get her to sundown in exchange for a piece of the prize. However, Noel must face off with rival protection agent Louis Lewis (Simu Liu), who owns the largest lottery protection agency in L.A. and also wants to collect Katie’s commission.

According to Billboard, “Black Hole Sun” is the first Soundgarden song to top Hot Hard Rock Songs tally, although that particular chart has only been around since 2020. Kevin Bacon, dancing away, in 4K? Footloose is coming to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in the UK, it’s been confirmed.

Paramount Pictures is wasting little time sorting new catalogue releases for the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format in 2024, with the news that the 1980s hit Footloose is heading to the format.

Already confirmed in America, a UK release has now been earmarked for February 12th 2024, and the film has gone up for order now. You can find it here.

Initially, it’s only available as a Steelbook release, although it’s expected that a regular 4K disc package isn’t far away. It’s the original film, incidentally, that’s getting the release, and not the remake.

Monday’s solar eclipse caused a major flare-up on streams for Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of The Heart,” with streams on the song jumping about 486 percent from Sunday versus Monday, according to data from Luminate.

In the 10 days prior to the solar eclipse, the song was averaging about 233,000 streams per day, and on Sunday, it had about 307,000 streams. On Monday alone, “Total Eclipse of the Heart” saw about 1.8 million streams, per Luminate.

Every now and then, Jimmy Fallon gets a little bit lonely, and every now and then, he gets a little bit tired of listening to the sound of his tears — so this year’s solar eclipse was actually a great way for him to have a communal, shared experience. While the streets of New York were filling with people hoping to catch a glimpse of the rare cosmic event, Fallon was on the NBC rooftop performing Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart” with The Tonight Show musical guests Heart.

Heart previewed their upcoming “Royal Flush Tour” with a Monday night appearance on The Tonight Show, where they ripped through their classic song, “Barracuda.” Additionally, they teamed up with Jimmy Fallon for a rooftop performance of Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart” as the solar eclipse occurred in New York City. Jimmy Fallon rang in the solar eclipse as only he can on Monday night’s Tonight Show.

Fallon opened his show with a message to viewers: “We have a special show tonight: Heart is our musical guest, and obviously today is the solar eclipse. So we thought we have to do what we have to do. We have to sing ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ with Heart, while watching the solar eclipse.”

Donning solar glasses and an eighties era hairstyle and suit, the Tonight Show host then took to the roof of 30 Rock where he joined the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers in a rocking edition of Bonnie Tyler’s 1983 hit. Naturally it ended with a callback to the song’s ridiculous music video.

Monday night wasn’t Heart’s first appearance with Fallon. In 2010 they appeared on an episode of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

Garth Brooks has taken his country music to Las Vegas and isn’t going anywhere else any time soon.

Back in May, the “Friends in Low Places” singer began his concert residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas and will be there until December 16. He’ll be taking a break for a few months after but is scheduled to return to the Colosseum on April 18 next year.
