Musician and producer Rick Derringer has died at the age of 77. Derringer is remembered for his work across a variety of genres. With his band, The McCoys, he recorded the iconic 1960s rock track "Hang On Sloopy," and he would go on to work with 1980s icons Hulk Hogan and Weird Al Yankovic. The Associated Press reports that Derringer's death was announced by his caretaker, Tony Wilson; no cause of death was given.
Derringer was born Richard Zehringer on August 5, 1947, in Celina, Ohio. His parents had an extensive record collection and his uncle, Jim Thornburg, was a popular local guitarist, inspiring Derringer to pursue a career in music. As a teenager, his family moved to Union City, Indiana, where he formed The McCoys. When they were hired to open for The Strangeloves, they recognized Derringer's talent, and had him record the new song "Hang On Sloopy." Although some elements of the song remain obscure,...

Pearl made her debut on the March 5 episode of The Masked Singer Season 13 as a member of Group B. The sultry sea jewel's first song on Fox's reality TV show was "Saving All My Love for You" and she had the four panelists guessing such famous names as Regina King, Shania Twain, and Joan Jett.
The following weeks, Pearl delivered performances of "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" and "Here You Come Again," prompting the judges to add Madonna, Melissa Etheridge, Sheryl Crow, Trisha Yearwood, Kellie Pickler, and Carrie Underwood to their list of potential A-listers. When the Lucky 6 merged and Pearl belted out "Conga," Faith Hill, Jody Watley, and Pat Benatar were mentioned. On "The Soundtrack of My Life" episode, Pearl sang "Your Love" and the perplexed panelists guessed Bonnie Tyler, Wynonna Judd, and Brandi Carlile.

Workers shouldn’t feel pain. Instead, the client should feel pain, and they should pay you by the hour for the pain you provide them.
That rule should hold equally true in the world of filmmaking. But sometimes, everything goes wrong, and the actor finds themselves screaming in agony. And no: We’re not just talking about when someone pulls off some impressive physical stunt. The pain can also come from far more unexpected sources.
5 Kenpachiro Satsuma, ‘Godzilla vs. The Smog Monster’
As a guy who put on a Godzilla costume in half a dozen movies, Kenpachiro Satsuma experienced plenty of painful moments. Most fall under the category of “impressive physical stunts,” which we said we weren’t going to be focusing on today. He had concussions. He almost drowned, because he had to linger underwater before popping up as Godzilla. He got electrocuted, because we guess the only way...

We’re only one week into Season 13 of The Masked Singer, but I’m pretty sure I’ve already stumbled (like a zombie, you might say) upon the identity of the undersea songstress known as Coral.
To be fair, though, I have to tip my hat to the internet on this one. Within seconds of Coral opening her mouth to perform Tears for Fears’ “Mad World” on last week’s premiere, Disney Channel diehards instantly recognized the vocals of Meg Donnelly, star of the network’s Zombies movie franchise.

Many films have been made that drew their inspiration and aesthetics from video games, manga and anime, but few as successfully, as exciting and as exhilarating as “Escape from the 21st Century”. Li Yang‘s madcap sci-fi adventure is a visual feast boasting excellent visual effects despite its low budget, a convincing mix of live footage and 2D animation and a rousing spectacle that can only honor its many inspirations.
Escape from the 21st Century is available from Signature Entertainment
It is almost impossible to describe the story while doing justice to the film’s nonsensical sense of fun. On distant planet K in 1999, a trio of teenagers are exposed to a toxic chemical that gives them the ability to travel through time to the year 2019 and back… by simply sneezing. Jamie Lee Curtis may have earned herself another Academy Award nomination thanks to her impressive performance in The Last Showgirl, but it might not be enough to win her the award. The Last Showgirl is very much Pamela Anderson's film, with the plot focusing on her aging Vegas dancer Shelly as she struggles with her age and dwindling job prospects amid the closure of the show she's worked at for decades. However, the film boasts an impressive supporting cast, with stars like Brenda Song, Dave Bautista, Kiernan Shipka, Billie Lourd, and Jason Schwartzman all delivering strong performances alongside Anderson.
However, the most impressive of these performances by The Last Showgirl's ending might be Jamie Lee Curtis, who takes a potentially one-note character with Annette and transforms her into a heartbreaking and charming contrast to Shelly. It's a great performance from the seasoned actress, and it has been gaining award recognition.

James Gunn's previous experience in the superhero genre, directing films both in the Dceu and the MCU, will help him and Peter Safran restart the Dcu franchise. At the same time, the filmmaker will not rely heavily on his previous films for the first entry in the franchise, 2025's Superman.
The Dcu has mapped up the upcoming media that will be a part of Chapter 1: Gods & Monsters, which started with the animated series Creature Commandos and the upcoming feature film Superman. Gunn's previously directed titles like Peacemaker, The Suicide Squad, and the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, which shared his peculiar sense of humor. In advance of the upcoming teaser trailer, scheduled for release on Dec. 19, Gunn told Cbr and other outlets during a set visit that the upcoming Superman will break a major trend that was present in his previous superhero projects so far.

The upcoming Superman movie is probably the most anticipated release of 2025, with David Corenswet suiting up as the legendary Kryptonian. While there is always some trepidation when a new actor takes on the role of a beloved character, James Gunn says fans have nothing to worry about.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Gunn, who is currently screen testing the film, gave his lead star a glowing review. "Honestly, from the bottom of my heart, David Corenswet is going to freak everyone out with how great he is," the director said. "He is one of the best actors I've ever worked with, and he can do everything. The man is incredible," he added.

Filmmaker and DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn has not yet released the first trailer for his upcoming Superman movie, and it remains unclear what kind of music he'll be choosing to use for the film along with its promotional materials. While no songs have been confirmed at this point, Gunn can name three songs he won't be including in the film.
On the social media platform Threads, Gunn answered three different fans asking if certain songs would be included in the movie, assuring each one that they would not. When one fan said that a montage in the film set to Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now" would "be everything," Gunn responded, "It's been done too often I think." When another fan asked him politely to not use "Holding Out for a Hero" by Bonnie Tyler, Gunn noted, "Don't worry." Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Sweetpea.
Alongside having a fantastic opening theme song, Sweetpea is full of great music that helps give the show a memorable tone, adding to its quality. The balance between comedy and drama can be hard to get right, but Sweetpea's exciting cast of characters helps bring a light-hearted feel to the British drama, while Ella Purnell's Rhiannon Lewis brings some sinister vibes. Despite developing murderous tendencies, Rhiannon maintains her endearing traits, creating a twistedly complicated protagonist. However, these qualities are what makes Sweetpea's reviews so good and the show's excellent soundtrack compliments the action and humorous moments perfectly.
While the series is filled predominately with pop music, the songs are used in a clever way that often conveys an intense and even unsettling atmosphere on occasion. Sweetpea episodes 1 and 2 use these catchy tracks to help build an identity, treating the audience to some bangers in the process.

Spoiler Alert: Details follow for Season 12, Episode 2 of “The Masked Singer,” “Footloose Night” which aired October 2 on Fox.
Wednesday night’s “The Masked Singer” reveal was an emotional one for “Community” star Yvette Nicole Brown, who was unmasked as Showbird on episode 2 of Season 12. As Brown was taping the episode she was also dealing with some personal matters involving the care of her father.
“Some of it felt heavy because I’m singing, but I’m thinking, ‘is daddy Ok,’” she told Variety. “But by the time I was revealed, I was able to kind of let that all out. Plus I got to surprise Ken, and it was everything that I hoped it would be!”
That’s “Ken” as in “The Masked Singer” panelist Ken Jeong, Brown’s “Community” co-star who of course guessed her right. Among the other panelists, Robin Thicke agreed with Jeong, while Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg thought it was Taraji P. Henson.

Is it possible to steal a movie out from under George Clooney and Brad Pitt, two of the matinee idols of our time? With “Wolfs,” Austin Abrams makes the case that you can.
The 28-year-old star, perhaps best known up to this point for dancing shirtless onstage to Bonnie Tyler’s “Holding Out for a Hero” in a flamboyant musical sequence in HBO’s “Euphoria,” again finds himself in a manner of undress in Jon Watts’ Apple TV+ comedy film. Here, he’s down to only his briefs and a pair of crew socks, running around Lower Manhattan trying to evade two fixers (Clooney and Pitt) toiling until twilight to clean up his mess.
In the big-budget but minor-key comedy written and directed by Watts — in a return to movies-for-adults form after his duties on the Tom Holland “Spider-Man” films — the charismatic Abrams is simply known in the script as “Kid.

Shrek 2 remains the franchise's crowning achievement with greater stakes, new characters, and an epic final battle scene. Shrek 2 takes full advantage of new characters like Puss in Boots and the devious Fairy Godmother in the glamorous Far Far Away. There are plenty of pop culture references in Shrek 2, from parodies of Los Angeles to a hilarious battle scene set to Bonnie Tyler's classic hit.
The Shrek franchise is one of the most iconic in all of modern media. Every '90s and '00s kid who grew up with the franchise can likely rattle off dozens of its iconic quotes. There's plenty to choose from, as Shrek has put out four movies (and two spin-offs centered on Puss in Boots) since 2001. After a decade-and-a-half away from the big screen, the titular green ogre is set to make his return with 2026's Shrek 5.

What if The Purge was a Paul Feig action-comedy starring Awkwafina as a lottery winner whose killer can claim the multi-billion dollar jackpot and a toupee-wearing John Cena as an “amateur lottery protection agent”? Judging by its official trailer, Jackpot! aims to answer that question.
Taking place in 2030, Jackpot! centers around Awkwafina’s Katie Kim, an aspiring actor who unexpectedly wins California’s newly established “grand lottery.” Unfortunately, there’s a major catch: anyone who kills the winner can legally stake claim to the prize.
As Katie gets chased all over Los Angeles, she runs into John Cena’s Noel Cassidy, who is tasked with protecting her until sundown in exchange for a piece of the prize. Standing in their way is his rival Louis Lewis (Simu Liu), who is also vying for the same commission.

The recent solar eclipse that captivated the protected eyes of Americans also made an impact on our ears. The event helped send Soundgarden’s classic 1994 hit “Black Hole Sun” to the top of Billboard’s Hot Hard Rock Songs chart.

Kevin Bacon, dancing away, in 4K? Footloose is coming to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in the UK, it’s been confirmed.
Paramount Pictures is wasting little time sorting new catalogue releases for the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format in 2024, with the news that the 1980s hit Footloose is heading to the format.
Already confirmed in America, a UK release has now been earmarked for February 12th 2024, and the film has gone up for order now. You can find it here.
Initially, it’s only available as a Steelbook release, although it’s expected that a regular 4K disc package isn’t far away. It’s the original film, incidentally, that’s getting the release, and not the remake.
Update: The regular, cheaper release is now confirmed for 13th May 2024. You can find it here.
Kevin Bacon, Lori Singer, Dianne Wiest and John Lithgow thus take the lead roles here, with Herbert Ross behind the camera.

Jimmy Fallon rang in the solar eclipse as only he can on Monday night’s Tonight Show.
Fallon opened his show with a message to viewers: “We have a special show tonight: Heart is our musical guest, and obviously today is the solar eclipse. So we thought we have to do what we have to do. We have to sing ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ with Heart, while watching the solar eclipse.”
Donning solar glasses and an eighties era hairstyle and suit, the Tonight Show host then took to the roof of 30 Rock where he joined the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers in a rocking edition of Bonnie Tyler’s 1983 hit. Naturally it ended with a callback to the song’s ridiculous music video.

Helldivers 2 has been making quite the noise ever since it arrived on PC and PlayStation 5. The success was quite surprising, and the community has been sharing clips of gameplay all over the internet. A creative few have even managed to craft a trailer that mentions Xbox.

Bottoms features standout needle drops and an electrifying original score by Charli Xcx and Leo Birenberg. The film's music enhances key scenes, from the high-energy montage with "Pain" to the explosive finale with "Party 4 U." Although no official Bottoms soundtrack is available that features all the songs heard in the film, the Original Motion Picture Score soundtrack is available to stream.
Bottoms included some of the best needle drops of any movie in 2023, and although only a couple of pre-existing songs are actually featured in the movie, each tune more than earns its spot in its given scene. Bottoms is a satirical teen sex comedy about two "loser" lesbians, Pj (Rachel Sennott) and Josie (Ayo Edebiri), who start a female fight club under the guise of self-defense training, with the secret intention of hooking up with their cheerleader crushes, Isabel (Havana Rose Liu) and Brittany (Kaia Gerber). Bottoms was directed by Emma Seligman,...

Garth Brooks has taken his country music to Las Vegas and isn’t going anywhere else any time soon.
Back in May, the “Friends in Low Places” singer began his concert residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas and will be there until December 16. He’ll be taking a break for a few months after but is scheduled to return to the Colosseum on April 18 next year.
Last week, Brooks performed at the opening of his new bar in Nashville, Friends in Low Places Bar & Honky Tonk.
“This town has been amazing to me,” Brooks said during his performance in Nashville. “When this [opportunity] popped up, the thought was, does Garth Brooks owe Nashville? You bet Garth Brooks owes Nashville.”
He then went on to explain the reason he named his bar after his hit song.
“You can like Garth Brooks. You can not like Garth Brooks. Either way,...
