Roland Verhavert was born on 1 May 1927 in Melsele-Waas, Belgium. He was a director and producer, known for The Conscript (1974), Meeuwen sterven in de haven (1955) and Het afscheid (1966). He died on 26 July 2014 in Belgium.

Verhavert was often seen as &quot;Godfather of the Belgian film&quot;.

His 1974 film The Conscript (De Loteling) was entered into the 24th Berlin International Film Festival.

He co-directed the 1955 film Seagulls Die in the Harbour, which was entered into the 1956 Cannes Film Festival.
