Before They Were Famous: Actors' Early Roles

Two years after he was born the family moved to Aachen, where Dohrenkamp grew up. Dohrenkamp's artistic inclinations were already evident during his school days, and he made his first public appearance as a singer at a school ball in 1964. After graduating from high school and doing military service, Dohrenkamp began studying German, linguistics and philosophy in Aachen in 1967, which he continued at the TU Berlin from 1972. In addition to his studies, which Dohrenkamp never completed, he performed in West Berlin folk clubs such as the legendary "Go In" in Charlottenburg with German songs by Ringelnatz, Kästner and Weinert and his own texts. In 1976, the artist, who now called himself Jürgen von der Lippe after the river in his home region, founded the group "Gebrüder Blattshot", which immediately released its first album and the hit "Kreuzberger Nights". Lippe's second LP followed in 1977, "Sing was Süßes". In the same year he left the songwriter group to celebrate his radio and television debut on WDR, where he was heard as "Hubert Lippenbluter" and appeared in some sketches.

When the "WWF Club" was broadcast for the first time in 1980 as a weekly regional show on the early evening program of WDR television, Lippe achieved the breakthrough for his TV career. In the guise of the comical janitor, the presenter and entertainer now achieved nationwide fame and recognition. From 1983 to 1984 Lippe was seen as the presenter of the WDR series "Showstart". In the third TV program he also moderated the shows "It doesn't get any nicer", "Ful ins Leben" and, until 1989, "So isses". In February 1986, Lippe started his first show on ARD with the game show "Donnerlippchen", which immediately became a hit with audiences. The show series, which was broadcast until 1988, brought the entertainer great popularity among German television audiences, but also occasional criticism, due to the idiosyncratic humor he practiced towards the contestants.

In 1986, Lippe married his second wife, colleague and TV journalist Margarethe Schreinemakers. However, the marriage later ended in divorce and Lippe went back to his first wife Anne. Another highlight of Lippe's TV career was the ARD show "Money or Love?", which was broadcast from 1989 to 2001 and for which the entertainer received the Adolf Grimme Prize in 1994. For some artists, the series of shows turned out to be a springboard for their future careers. At the same time, Lippe was seen in other ARD programs such as the game show "Hast Du Wort" from 1992 and the evening talk show "Wat is" from 1995. The movie "Nich' mit Leo", for which Lippe wrote the script and in which he appeared in a triple role, did not initially meet with the hoped-for success in 1995, which only came about when it was broadcast by the private broadcaster RTL. After ARD honored the entertainer with its own portrait program on his 50th birthday in 1998, Lippe turned his back on public television in June 2001.

However, the presenter was not very successful with the weekly program "Blind Dinner", which started on SAT.1 in September 2001. After a few time slot shifts, the show finally had to be canceled entirely due to low viewer ratings. In 2002 Jürgen von der Lippe appeared on SAT.1 with the show "Hart & Heigt". With "Who Laughs Last" he also presented a comedy annual review on the private broadcaster. Lippe has already received numerous awards for his artistic achievements. In 1987 he received the "Golden Record" for the super hit "Guten Morgen, meine Sorgen". The "Golden Camera in Bronze" and the "Golden Camera" followed in 1988 and 1993 respectively. In 1996 he was awarded the "Bambi" and in 1999 he was awarded the Echo title "Media Person of the Year". For October 2003, Lippe has announced a new tour with the tried and tested program "So am ich", which will be continued with a new program in spring 2004.

In June 2003 it became known that the comedian and presenter might be planning a comeback to ARD. Lippe was supposed to be a presenter for the planned WDR show "Who laughs, who flies". A few days before Christmas 2003, Lippe started his new comedy book show "What are you reading?" on WDR and since the beginning of 2004 he can be seen in the RTL series "The Savior on the Island". The start of his live autumn tour followed in September 2005. The entertainer will present his title "The Magic of Harmony", which is also included on his CD "Alles was ich Liebe". In 2007 he received the Golden Romy for Extreme Activity. In 2009 and 2010 he released the albums "The Funniest Reading Evening in the World" and "Upside Down World: Staged Reading".
