Michael Strahan is ready to take on an iconic Hollywood role, but it might be too much extra work.
The former football star has multiple jobs in front of the television camera, including showing up most weekdays as a Good Morning America anchor.
He is also well known as an analyst for Fox NFL Sunday, where he recently participated in Super Bowl coverage with Fox.
Although he has Smac Entertainment, which he co-founded and owns, producing movies, something he’s yet to do himself is starring in big films.
However, he recently indicated his interest in becoming the next James Bond during GMA.
While Robin Roberts called him out for a previous remark he made on GMA, she wasn’t there to stop him this time. He received a co-sign from at least one co-star, while others nearby shut him down.

When Malcolm Washington was working his first movie job — as a camera production assistant on Jon Favreau’s 2014 Chef — he struck up a friendship with Roy Choi, the film’s food consultant. As a lifelong Angeleno, Washington, 33, was a huge fan of Choi’s restaurants, and the two bonded over their shared experience of being new to a movie set (apart, of course, from Malcolm visiting his dad, Denzel Washington, at work as a kid).
“We didn’t stay in touch, because I was just a P.A.,” says Washington. But a decade later, he was celebrating picture lock on his directorial debut and decided to treat himself to dinner at a sushi bar. When he sat down at the only open seat, he found himself next to Choi: “I told him, ‘I just finished my first movie as a director 20 minutes ago,’ and he said, ‘I always knew you’d do something.

For actor John David Washington, making the pilgrimage to Pittsburgh’s Hill District was one of the more poignant stops on his journey as The Piano Lesson character Boy Willie Charles. After making his Broadway debut with the role in the 2022 Tony Award-nominated production and reprising it for the new film adaptation from director Malcolm Washington, John David Washington finally found himself on the home turf of playwright August Wilson for a special screening. This visit was one of many stops of a tour that also spans cities across Europe, yet the actor got the chance to visit the home where Wilson grew up and the library a few blocks up where a few “Og’s” play chess religiously. “Everybody from the Hill District to me, are Wilsonians,” John David says. “This is just who they are, as far as the experience, the neighborhood. Fans can’t believe that some of the most brilliant films of 2024 were ignored by the Academy altogether. Before the 2025 nomination list was announced on January 23, some of these films were the most popular contenders in some categories. However, the Academy didn’t even consider Zendaya’s Challengers, Nicole Kidman’s Babygirl, or Kirsten Dunst’s Babygirl for an award.

Fans have called out the unfair snubs on social media while expressing support for some of their favorite films of the year. These underperforming films had several factors that made them a worthy contender for an Oscar.

#7 Longlegs – The Oscars don’t have a great history when it comes to horror, which makes it less surprising that Longlegs was absent from its nomination list.

Chadwick Boseman was a talented actor best known for playing T’Challa, the superhero Black Panther, in Marvel’s MCU. He first appeared as Black Panther in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ (2016) and later starred in the hugely popular ‘Black Panther’ (2018).
His performance as T’Challa was praised for bringing strength, dignity, and inspiration, especially as it showcased a powerful African superhero to the world. ‘Black Panther’ and by extension Boseman as T’Challa became important cultural heroes.
Boseman continued to play the role in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ Sadly, he passed away in 2020 after battling colon cancer after 4 years of struggle, but his portrayal of Black Panther left a lasting legacy in film and culture.
Following Chadwick Boseman’s passing, Marvel Studios chose not to recast T’Challa out of respect for the actor, who inspired millions through his portrayal of the character. Instead, in ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,...

Throughout the 2010s, and lingering into the 2020s, massive, corporate-backed I.P. has dominated both the domestic box office and the American journalistic conversation about cinema in general. We live in a world where reporters, when they had an opportunity to sit down with Martin Scorsese to discuss new masterworks like "The Silence" or "The Wolf of Wall Street," decided to ask him about Captain America and his place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Vocal subverters of the dominant paradigm repeatedly yawped that Hollywood should devote more time and resources to new ideas. After all, why be the next "Star Wars" when you can be the first of something different? Where, oh where were the original sci-fi/fantasy ideas?
But then, when an ambitious filmmaker tries to make something new and striking for a broad cinematic audience, it generally tanks. It seemed that audiences were more eager to attach themselves to...

A very good movie, frustratingly close to being a great one if not for one problem at its absolute center. John David Washington drags down this new adaptation of August Wilson's The Piano Lesson to an inordinate degree, baldly imitating his dad's Troy Maxson and leaving Boy Willie out to dry as a result. Unburdened from even a shred of Denzel's charisma, we get a Boy Willie who's unambiguously trying to sell you a used car even when he's supposed to be bonding with his niece or drinking with a friend. His disastrous turn skews the text even more toward Berniece than it already was - imagine what Stephan James could've done with the role instead. Throughout Malcolm Washington’s The Piano Lesson, the question of how to heal a family’s generational wounds unfurls around the title instrument. Adapted from the fourth play in August Wilson’s American Century Cycle, the film takes place in 1930s Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Sharecropper Boy Willie (Tenet’s John David Washington) arrives at his sister Berniece’s (Till’s Danielle Deadwyler) house hoping to sell their family heirloom so he can buy the Sutter family’s land, where their forebears were once enslaved.
This inheritance, however, is fraught, as it was passed down by their father, who was murdered by Sutter, and the instrument’s facade bears intricate carvings of their ancestors. The piano resounds with the ghosts of suffering and communion past, ricocheting the siblings in opposing directions regarding what to do about the instrument — and the legacy it represents.

Adapting The Piano Lesson, one of the most often produced plays of August Wilson’s American Century Cycle, was equally intimidating and thrilling for co-writers Virgil Williams and Malcolm Washington. “It’s sacred text for sure,” says Washington, who took on the challenge for his directorial debut. Williams adds: “It was a stew of fear, reverence, and respect.”
In the Pulitzer Prize-winning play, set in 1930s Pittsburgh, a Black American family’s disagreement about what to do with an heirloom piano excavates questions about their lineage and legacy. While sharecropper Boy Willie (John David Washington) wants to sell the piano to buy back the land on which his ancestors were enslaved, his sister Berniece (Danielle Deadwyler) refuses, knowing the priceless history that the instrument holds.

While The Piano Lesson primarily centers around the Charles family, their lineage, and the treasured piano they possess, there is an unassuming yet vividly present character who plays a pivotal role in uncovering the family’s history: Lymon Jackson. In Malcolm Washington’s new feature film adaptation of the landmark August Wilson play, the earnest and bright-eyed Lymon, played with true sincerity by Ray Fisher, is tasked with helping his childhood friend Boy Willie (John David Washington) in his quest to acquire the piano from his sister Berniece (Danielle Deadwyler) and reclaim the land where the Charles ancestors once lived. “For Lymon, I think the piano itself symbolizes what it is that Lymon’s ultimately after, which is a family of his own,” says Fisher. Bringing the role to the screen feels like a full-circle moment for Fisher, an actor who first earned rave reviews as Muhammad Ali in the...

His death after a battle with colon cancer was incredibly tragic, and Marvel chose to honor the actor by making Black Panther: Wakanda Forever a beautiful study on mourning and healing from the pain, becoming one of the McU's best movies.
The emotional film showed how strong Letitia Wright's Shuri was, making her Marvel's new Black Panther. Three years since the movie was released, a new Black Panther report claims Marvel is recasting T'Challa. According to the rumors, an actor has already passed on the role, as Boseman's shoes would be too big to fill. Only a few actors have the necessary skills to lead the...

With rumours continuing to swirl about Marvel Studios' plans to cast a new T'Challa for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we may finally have a clearer idea of who will lead the Black Panther franchise moving forward.
Earlier this week, you might have seen some social media chatter about a random YouTube channel plucking a few different names out of a hat. Today, we have word from a scooper with a proven track record, @MyTimeToShineH and, while we'd recommend taking this with a pinch of salt for now, our sources say there may be something to this.
According to the prolific leaker, "Some of the actors Marvel Studios is/was considering to play 'New T'Challa' are: John David Washington, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Aaron Pierre."

There is no shortage of competitors for the Best Actor category hoping to be nominated for the Oscars 2025 and try to win. The Academy Award for the best lead male actor is one of the biggest awards each year, which is no different in 2025. Following in the footsteps of Cillian Murphy's breakthrough win for Oppenheimer in 2024, there is an entirely new crop of performers who want to win this year. They'll be among the nominees in all Oscars 2025 categories, as voters decide which five actors deserve the nominations before narrowing it down to one winner.
As the ones in front of the camera, actor awards can often get more attention than the 2025 Oscars Best Director nominations. There is usually plenty of overlap between the actors who are nominated for Best Actor and the selection of films contending for Best Picture. Since those ten movies are deemed the best of the best,...

There aren't many comedy movies which use historical settings, but ones that do can have a timeless appeal. Comedy often works best when it feels timely and relevant, so the large majority of comedy movies focus on contemporary stories. Historical comedies offer something different, however, such as the opportunity to laugh at the past, and the chance to deconstruct the lofty pretensions of historical dramas.
While most period movies are judged on their historical accuracy, comedies usually have different motives. Since they don't profess to present an accurate depiction of the past, historical comedies have license to go off the rails, and inaccuracy and anachronism can often be part of the joke. While historical comedies are rarely accurate, they can still shine a light on some surprising truths about how people relate to the past, and how other movies give historical periods a quasi-mythological sheen.

Yesterday evening, a rumour hit social media claiming that Marvel Studios is making moves to recast Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa. The news has received a mixed response, though many fans are eager to see the character back on screen.
After Boseman passed away, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever confirmed that T'Challa had also died. Shuri inherited the mantle and the sequel ended by revealing the hero secretly had a son with Nakia, a young boy also named T'Challa.
While Avengers: Secret Wars' Black Panther may be a Variant, we think Toussaint is going to be aged up before picking up where his father left off in the Mutant Saga. With all that in mind, we're now taking a look at the actors who could take over this role in the MCU.

When it comes to superhero portrayals, fans often end up associating the actor and the character with one another. So much so that it is hard to see one without the other, and Chadwick Boseman is one such actor. Having achieved global stardom with his portrayal of Black Panther in the MCU, the actor tragically lost his life to colon cancer in 2020.

Gareth Edwards' underrated sci-fi film finds streaming success two years after its release. The British filmmaker made his feature directorial debut and first rose to prominence with his 2010 sci-fi horror film, Monsters, an independent production made on a small budget of $500,000, with Edwards also serving as the cinematographer, production designer, and a visual effects artist. From there, he graduated on to directing the big-budget monster movie, 2014's Godzilla, which served as the first film in Legendary's Monsterverse franchise.
Next, Edwards took on one of the most highly coveted jobs in Hollywood, directing a Star Wars movie. He helmed Rogue One, which experienced a troubled production, and it was co-writer Tony Gilroy who oversaw the film's extensive reshoots. After that, Edwards didn't direct a film for seven years until his own original sci-fi epic, The Creator, in 2023. Next up, Edwards has joined another major film franchise, having directed the upcoming Jurassic World Rebirth,...

Tom Cruise Promoting A Christopher Nolan Film ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Tom Cruise pleasantly surprised the entire film industry in the summer of 2023 when he promoted Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, the latter’s magnum opus that would derail Cruise’s own Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One the very next weekend. This rivalry extended to reserving all the premium IMAX screens for Nolan’s film, a move some might equate with the life-threatening stunts the Ethan Hunt actor is famous for. However, assuming the persona of a true movie star, the Top Gun actor has long been an advocate for films beyond his own, predating his endorsement of the Cillian Murphy–Robert Downey Jr. starrer.
The incident ties back to Cruise’s consistent efforts to fill theater seats and save the cinema industry post-covid-19, a dedication publicly acknowledged by Jurassic Park director Steven Spielberg, who credited Cruise for “saving the...

John David Washington found himself in a rare situation while promoting his latest film, Netflix’s “The Piano Lesson.” It was his first real press tour in a while, since the rollout for his previous few films (including Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet” and Gareth Edwards’ “The Creator”) were impacted by the Covid pandemic, then the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
“It was a relief to be able to do it like you’re supposed to, as far as getting with the people, right after they see it in the theater, and talking,” Washington says. And after one screening in Paris, his parents — actors Denzel and Pauletta Washington — joined him onstage for the Q&a. “I never thought that I’d be on the same stage with my old man talking about a film that we’re a part of — not in my wildest dreams.”

Since breaking through with his second feature "Memento" in 2001, Christopher Nolan has been one of the most critically celebrated and commercially popular filmmakers on the planet. He's been nominated for eight Academy Awards (winning Best Picture and Best Director in 2024 with "Oppenheimer") and currently ranks seventh on the list of highest-grossing directors of all time (not adjusted for inflation). Career-wise, you can't do it much better than Nolan: he kicked off with two indies, dipped his toe in the studio waters before tackling a major franchise with "Batman Begins," didn't overstay his welcome with said franchise, and is now a brand name himself à la Alfred Hitchcock, Steven Spielberg, and George Lucas. With his track record, he can make just about any film he wants at the studio of his choosing.
Now that he's about to embark on feature number 13, you'd think we could look back over his 26-year career...

The Creator was one of the most creative films of 2023 and the sci-fi flick is now available to stream. From director Gareth Edwards and starring John David Washington, The Creator made a big impact on the public pre-release thanks to stellar trailers and creative marketing techniques involving the film's robots. Disney and 20th Century managed to build a great deal of interest in the film as well. Many considered it one of the best movies of 2023 according to early reactions revealed before its theatrical debut.
While The Creator was released in theaters on September 29, 2023, this did not prove to be the preferred way to watch the movie. Those interested in seeing Gareth Edwards' movie as quickly as possible proved to be a smaller group than expected based on The Creator's box office opening weekend struggling. This prompted more waiting until it came to a streaming service to watch Gareth Edwards' movie at home.

It is rare for there to be big-budget original sci-fi movies in theaters these days, and while it didn't become a box office success, there are many fans looking for movies like The Creator. Gareth Edwards' latest movie takes place in a futuristic world where Western civilization has declared war on AI. The fictional nation of New Asia combats the efforts to eradicate AI. An ex-special forces agent, Joshua (John David Washington), is tasked with traveling to New Asia and destroying a new AI weapon.
The Creator explores ideas about humanity's relationship with AI, debuting at a time when its core theme couldn't be more relevant. The story uses science fiction as a medium to explore themes about empathy and what it means to be sentient and human. This is a story that's been explored in Hollywood before. Robert Pattinson will be returning to play the caped crusader in Matt Reeves’ The Batman: Part II, which gears up for release in 2026. The actor was cast as Bruce Wayne in 2022’s The Batman and despite a barrage of initial protests, his performance was duly appreciated upon release. The film has also been regarded for its unique visual language and storytelling.
Recently, Pattinson’s Tenet co-star John David Washington was asked about his love for Batman and if he would ever want to play the role. While Bruce Wayne has been the primary Batman, there have been some other versions, including an African-American version by Stan Lee. However, John David Washington seemed to leave the job to his co-star.

A retired Green Beret addresses the inaccuracy of an explosion in a Spike Lee war movie. Since his first feature-length movie, She's Gotta Have It, was released in 1986, Lee's movies have been widely watched and celebrated. In the decade that followed his directorial debut, Lee directed many movies, including the critically acclaimed Do The Right Thing and Malcolm X, with both the 1989 and 1992 movies garnering multiple Academy Award nominations.
Lee's prolific directing career continued into the 2000s with notable movies ranging from the Edward Norton and Philip Seymour Hoffman-led 25th Hour to Inside Man, the latter of which was Spike Lee and Denzel Washington's fourth movie together. Lee received his first Academy Award nomination for Best Director in recognition of his 2018 movie, BlacKkKlansman, starring John David Washington and Adam Driver. Since then, Lee has signed a multiyear deal with Netflix.

Gareth Edwards’ latest movie, The Creator (2023), has been a big hit with audiences. Starring John David Washington, Gemma Chan, Ken Watanabe, Sturgill Simpson, Allison Janney, and Madeleine Yuna Voyles (in her first-ever acting role), the film has a cool story and stunning visuals. While it’s inspired by classics like Apocalypse Now (1979), Blade Runner (1982), and Akira (1988), Edwards still brings something fresh to the table—especially compared to Hollywood’s recent sci-fi flicks. With its top-notch sci-fi vibes and detailed world-building, the movie feels like a breath of fresh air for fans of the genre. However, the narrative falters due to unfortunate editing choices and a lack of depth in character development. Despite these shortcomings, the film remains a worthwhile watch, especially for those tired of the repetitive themes of alien invasions or AI replacing humans. Mind you, Edwards’ creation at least tried to break free from these tired tropes. I...

It’s time to look at the work of one of the greatest directors of our generation: Christopher Nolan. How big is Nolan these days? Interstellar, a movie which was never among the director’s top grossers, hit IMAX screens last week for its tenth anniversary, and screenings have been selling out constantly. The fact is – Nolan makes movies that belong on the big-screen, and he’s one of the few directors who’s arguably become his own franchise. For proof of that, one need only look at the fact that he’s planning a new movie, and the cast is jampacked with A-listers, because Everyone wants to work with Nolan.
A caveat – our Christopher Nolan movies ranked list is just one person’s opinion, and his work is divisive. Everyone has their favourites (and least favourites), so I’m hoping this ranking will open up some discussion in the comments below.
