Michael Weir was born October 2, 1965 to Norman and Ethne Weir. He
attended the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, graduating in 1990.
He was a visual artist, performer and film editor. He was twice nominated for the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television Award (Genie) and was a recipient of numerous other honors including two awards for editing from the Atlantic Film Festival.
In addition to his success as an editor, Michael was a director of several comedic short videos including the musical "Queer, Dyke, Fruit". He also documented his struggles with cancer in 36 hours of a profound video diary.
Michael Weir died on September 22, 2005 amidst a wealth of family and friends after a brave two year battle with lung cancer at the age of 39.
