Josh Hutcherson has starred in some memorable projects since starting in the industry as a child, but there’s one role he lost out on that might surprise fans.
During a recent interview with BuzzFeed, the actor revealed he auditioned for one of the Home Alone films when he was younger.
“I was probably 11, I think, when I auditioned for it,” the Five Nights at Freddy’s actor recalled. “It got down to me and the other guy. That was the first time that I tasted rejection, so that was really hard.”
Though Hutcherson didn’t share what installment in the Home Alone franchise he auditioned for, based on the timeline, it would have been one of the newer films. Since the first two movies that Macaulay Culkin is most known for were released in 1990 and 1992, right around when Hutcherson was born.

Few franchises are as controversial as the feel-good Christmas family comedy "Home Alone." The first two films are widely beloved, bonafide staples of the American Christmas movie canon. However, the subsequent sequels — of which there are many — are almost universally despised. Most people haven't seen all of the "Home Alone" movies, and they might be left wondering — are any of the follow-up films worth watching?
Some feel that Macaulay Culkin leaving the franchise after the second film is what set the subsequent movies up for failure. In this critic's opinion, the "Home Alone" entries 3-6 suffer from a lot more than bad casting. However, I watched every "Home Alone" movie so you didn't have to, and I am here to answer some age-old questions. Firstly, is "Home Alone 2" better than the original? And secondly, are any of the follow-up films worth watching? My answer might surprise you.
You might disagree,...

Sony Pictures Television has brought on unscripted executive and producer Michael Weinberg as senior vice president of development in its newly-formed game show production unit, Variety has learned exclusively.
In the new role, Weinberg will develop game shows across all platforms and will identify new growth opportunities for the game shows division, which is focused on expanding the company’s footprint in the category. Sony Pictures Television is behind mega-powerhouses “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy!”
An Emmy-winning producer, Weinberg’s extensive list of game show credits includes “Press Your Luck,” “1 Versus 100,” “To Tell the Truth” and “Don’t Forget the Lyrics.”
Earlier this year, Sony made a major push into unscripted content expansion with the 350 million acquisition of Industrial Media. At that time, the company also announced that longtime Sony exec Suzanne Prete would oversee production in a newly-formed game show division. Weinberg will report to Prete, executive vice president of game shows.

A Home Alone reboot movie is in the works, set for an arrival on streaming platform Disney+.
Disney is seemingly dominating the entertainment industry these days with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Star Wars and its incredible animation back catalog, emboldened now more than ever with self-distribution grandeur, with streaming service Disney+ (home of Star Wars serial smash The Mandalorian!) providing a platform on which more of its rebooted IP can manifest, as recently exemplified by the debut of its live-action Lady and the Tramp movie.
Home Alone, a piece of property cheese nabbed by the monolithic Mouse in the company’s recent acquisition of Fox, happens to be on the docket for a Disney+ reboot treatment, joining similarly-fated properties in Night at The Museum and Diary of a Wimpy Kid; a reveal made by big boss Bob Iger at a Q3 earnings call back in August,...

The first Home Alone film to skip cinemas. Home Alone 4, though, had problems on its hands. Not least recasting the original roles...
Spoilers lie ahead.
I’m not familiar with what happened to the Home Alone rights between 1997 and 2002, but it’s fair to say that – a decade on from the original – anyone remotely interested in watching a Home Alone sequel will have moved on to whatever older teenagers were into back in 2002. MP3 players and Chemsex or whatever. But surely there’s always a fresh stream of children who might want to revel in the action and comedy of a Home Alone movie? Well, no. But there might just be enough people keen enough to watch it on TV under the mistaken belief that the name represented any badge of quality.
So it was that we ended up with Home Alone 4: Taking Back The House.

Despite his forgetful parents splitting up, Kevin McCallister (Mike Weinberg) finds himself left home alone once more while spending Christmas at the hi-tech home of his dad's new girlfriend. But while the place is a gadget lover's dream, it turns out to be a burglar's nightmare, as Kevin's old nemesis Marv (Frenchy Stewart) is about to discover with his new sidekick Vera (Missi Pyle). Home Alone traditions are upheld in this suitably slapsticky sequel.

Santa Claus (1959)
Reading this on mobile? Click here to view
Don't be fooled by the utilitarian title: Santa Claus is less a biopic of the jelly-bellied gift-giver than a warped Christmas fever dream in which he happens to play a supporting role. The film's real star is Lucifer, who – angered by society's unshakeable devotion to Saint Nick – sends forth a horned demon to turn the children of Earth against him. Santa, hard at work in his orbiting space castle (don't ask) is powerless to help as the campy incubus schemes to corrupt virtuous little boys and girls.
Holiday In Handcuffs (2007)

Waitress Trudie takes a decidedly extreme course of action when faced with another Christmas without a boyfriend. Brandishing an antique shotgun, she kidnaps handsome stranger David and whisks him back...

Monroe wed to ABC Hertz pilot
Meredith Monroe has joined the cast of ABC's untitled Tom Hertz comedy pilot, while 10-year-old Mike Weinberg has signed on to NBC's Tom Selleck comedy pilot, Touch 'em All McCall. Monroe will play the wife in ABC's Hertz project, which revolves around the fish-out-of-water experiences when an introverted New Yorker (Breckin Meyer) marries a woman who hails from a large gregarious family from Kansas. Monroe is known for her two-season stint on the WB Network's Dawson's Creek and work in features like Minority Report. Hertz and Brad Grey are executive producing for 20th Century Fox TV/Brad Grey TV. NBC Studios' Touch 'em All McCall features Selleck as a former baseball player who returns to his hometown to rekindle an old romance with a love interest (Susan Diol). Weinberg will play Diol's character's son, Sammy. Weinberg most recently appeared last year as the lead in ABC's telefilm Home Alone 4 and also had a recurring role on the WB's 7th Heaven in the 2001-02 season. Monroe is repped by Writers & Artists Agency and manager Rachel Shapiro. Weinberg is repped by Abby Bluestone of Innovative Artists.
