Alison Whelan, a 51-year-old woman, has been drinking for two days near a harbor in Devon, England last September. It got so bad that she called emergency services and said that she was having a seizure. Paramedics arrived to find Whelan and her friend, Tristam Locke, aboard a 45-foot passenger ferry. When they attempted to board the boat, Whelan and Locke became violent, so paramedics backed off, deciding to wait for the police to show up. Soon after, Whelan began untying the ferry, causing to drift away. Witnesses sas that they heard her shouting "I'm a pirate" and "I'm Jack Sparrow." Apparently she was not only drunk, but was eating a poisonous hallucinogenic plant. The ferry began crashing into other boats in the harbor and ultimately caused thousands of British pounds worth of damage. Authorities finally got on the boat about a mile away, arresting both Whelan and Locke. A...

Have you ever taken to the seas like Jack Sparrow? Tell us about the ways you've been inspired by onscreen heroes
A Devon woman has been jailed after stealing a passenger ferry, in an apparent emulation of Pirates of the Caribbean. Alison Whelan shouted "I'm Jack Sparrow" at police as she as she set off down the River Dart aboard the Dart Princess.
Whelan, who was high on a cocktail of drink and drugs, was sentenced to 112 days in prison this week, and her actions are clearly not to be celebrated. However, the story got us wondering: have you ever found yourself, deliberately or otherwise, mimicking a character from a film? Or are there any film characters you compare yourself to?
We asked @guardianfilm Twitter followers what characters they most closely identify with. Here's a handful of the responses:

Alison Whelan, 51, and friend Tristam Locke were under the influence of drugs and alcohol when they climbed onto the moored 100-seater Dart Princess in Dartmouth, Devon on September 10, 2011. Whelan dialled 999 and and said she thought she was having a seizure. Paramedics arrived and found the defendant "rambling", while Locke became abusive and pushed one of the medics over. Shortly before police arrived at the scene, Whelan unmoored the 45ft vessel and started drifting away, shouting "I'm A Pirate" and "I'm Jack Sparrow" - Johnny Depp's character in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Whelan told police she untied the ropes because she kept tripping over them and "before she knew it" she felt (more)...
