Carnadoes, planenadoes, and flamenadoes – oh my! If you thought a Sharknado was the zaniest weather occurrence to hit Hollywood, well, you’d still be right, but Into The Storm is pretty damn crazy for a more realistic take on Mother Nature’s wrath! You see kids, sometimes when one superpowered storm system loves another superpowered storm system, they have a whole gaggle of obnoxious tornado babies who like turning small towns into rubble. Then, once they mature, they form the world’s largest recorded tornado, and a windy bit of Hell touches down on Earth. Rushing cyclones, flattened houses, daredevil rednecks, swirling debris - all the weatherbug action is rather intense, but then characters have to go do something silly like open their mouths and attempt pithy dialogue. Herein lies the problem with Steven Quale’s latest disasterpiece, because while moments of intensity ravage an ambitious team of storm chasers,...

Vishwaroop
Starring Kamal Haasan, Pooja Kumar, Rahul Bose
Directed by Kamal Haasan
Rating: ****
First things first. Kamal Haasan’s enormously controversial film doesn’t hurt Muslim sentiments. In fact it doesn’t hurt the sentiments of any section of the people except those party-poopers who think having a ball at the movies went out of style with Sholay and Chachi 420.
Leave aside its sobering take on global warfare, Vishwaroop is one helluva entertainer. If you’ve forgotten what edge-of-the-seat entertainment mean, then it’s time to rediscover that pleasure. Stylish and substantial the narrative weaves and winds its way into coherent and compulsive threads that bring together the theme of international espionage with the more sensitive issue of the Islamic and the personal identity of a man whose heroic stature grows out of a sense of commitment to the country and to world peace .

One of Hollywood's most accomplished stunt directors Lee Whittaker is currently in Mumbai shooting the climactic action sequence for Kamal Haasan's Vishwaroop. But was convinced only after Kamal Haasan showed the American stunt-wallah some of his filmed moves and daring do from his past work. Says a source, "Whittaker was not too keen on doing an assignment outside home turf. But when he saw Kamal Haasan's stunts in some of his past film notably Nayakan and Abhay and the high risk-level that the actor was willing to take to achieve a summit of realism in the stunts, Whittaker agreed." For the climactic one-on-one being shot currently,...
