Began as writer, actor and director with the York Repertory Group, where one of his plays, "A Choice of Partners", attracted the attention of the BBC script department. He later became a noted writer for
Doctor Who (1963), as well as sitcoms and musical biographies, such as "Hello Ragtime". He was the first to write a 'Doctor Who' novelisation, as early as 1964: "Doctor Who in an Exciting Adventure with the Daleks".
