Will Sam Flynn Return To The Grid For Tron: Ares? Garrett Hedlund Gives Cryptic Answer
Image
Starring Garrett Hedlund as Sam Flynn and Olivia Wilde as Quorra, this 2010 sci-fi spectacle Tron: Legacy has rightfully earned its place as an underrated gem and a growing cult classic on home video. Its breathtaking visuals and iconic soundtrack even inspired a thrilling new ride at Disney World's Magic Kingdom.

Now, the Tron universe is expanding with the highly anticipated Tron: Ares. This new film shifts its focus from Legacy's main characters, but it builds directly on an exciting idea from the previous movie's climax: Quorra, an "isomorphic algorithm," stepping out of the digital Grid and into the real world.

Tron: Ares will explore this groundbreaking concept on a much grander scale, with Jared Leto leading the cast as the titular Ares. The core plot revolves around an unprecedented event: more and more advanced algorithms are making the leap from the Grid and entering physical reality. This raises a...

“It’s Astounding How Much Time Has Gone On”: Garrett Hedlund Has Addressed If His ‘Legacy’ Character Will Return in ‘Tron: Ares’
Image
After about a decade and a half, Disney is sending audiences back to the Grid with the upcoming Tron movie, Tron: Ares. The movie will serve as a standalone sequel to 2010's Tron: Legacy, which fulfilled long-held hopes for the continuation of the beloved science-fiction saga that began with Tron in 1982. The 2010 sequel introduced a new character in Sam, played by Garrett Hedlund, the son of the genius programmer Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), who enters the program to help his father stop a malevolent program from invading the real world. With plot details for the upcoming sequel safely under wraps, fans have wondered whether Sam will be back, especially given that it will also feature his father, Kevin. Hedlund has now cleared things up in his recent interview with Screen Rant.

Tron: Ares seems designed to breathe new life into the franchise, aiming to draw in a new generation of...

‘Adolescence’s Writer Is Co-Writing Sam Mendes’ Beatles Movies
Image
Sam Mendes’ ambitious quartet of The Beatles biopics has just added a major creative force behind the scenes. While CinemaCon made headlines last month by confirming the all-star cast — Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison — the question remained: who’s writing them?

It's now been confirmed that Jack Thorne, the Emmy-winning writer behind Netflix’s hit limited series Adolescence, has joined the writing team for the Beatles saga, alongside Jez Butterworth and Peter Straughan (Conclave).

And yes, this project is set to be a true experiment. All four films — each telling the Beatles’ story from a different member’s perspective — will roll out weekly in April 2028, making use of all four Fridays that month. Mendes, producing via Neal Street Productions with Pippa Harris and Julie Pastor, is crafting what might be the most ambitious rock...

Lewis Black, Tony Hale, Liza Lapira, Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Maya Hawke, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Paul Walter Hauser, and Ayo Edebiri in Inside Out 2 (2024)
FandomWire Predicts 10 Movies Which Will Rule the Box Office in 2025
Lewis Black, Tony Hale, Liza Lapira, Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Maya Hawke, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Paul Walter Hauser, and Ayo Edebiri in Inside Out 2 (2024)
2024 was a soft hum for the industry, but this year is already off to an operatic start. How could Hollywood resist pushing a bunch of sequels down our throats? If last year was an appetizer, with Inside Out 2 and the Deadpool/Wolverine tag team, 2025 is arriving with far more plump (just look at what the Minecraft film was able to do) and impossible missions.

Superheroes are obviously back, as they have continued to do so for the last decade. James Gunn’s Superman will be figuring out life again, and with Marvel’s Phase V coming to an end with Thunderbolts*, the new Fantastic Four reboot will hope to erase the sour taste of its previous attempts.

Maybe this time they’ll get it right? Our fingers remain crossed. James Cameron, meanwhile, isn’t done with blue aliens either, and Avatar 3 will likely demand another three hours of your...

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Hurtles Toward Its Climax with an Operatic Episode
Image
In the end — or at least in its penultimate installment — “Daredevil: Born Again” kept things pretty simple. For weeks we’ve noted the contrasts and parallels between Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) as they circled each other ahead of an inevitable showdown.

But it was also always about a man grieving his best friend and fighting the less savory emotions that come with that. Justice was served in the assassination of Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson), but was that ever going to be enough for Matt? Will anything?

The twain converge in Episode 108, “Isle of Joy,” directed Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead and written by Jesse Wigutow & Dario Scardapane. After being held hostage and shooting her captor in Episode 7, Heather (Margarita Levieva) is invited to a black and white ball by Mayor Fisk himself — an invitation that Matt rightfully views as a threat. The mere mention of Fisk...

Tron: Ares – The Long-Awaited Return to the Grid Tron: Ares marks the third chapter in the iconic Tron series, and it’s hard to believe that fans are finally getting a new installment after such a lengthy wait. We know that it stars Jared Leto as Ares, who is described as "a highly sophisticated program ... sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind's first encounter with A.I. beings." “Well, first off, as a kid I was obsessed with Tron,” said Leto. “It was the ‘80s and the future felt like it was just around the corner. … Tron had action, adventure, spandex — lots of spandex.

‘Daredevil’ Episode 4 Brings in an Old Friend — and New Enemies
Image
[Editor’s note: The following review contains spoilers for “Daredevil: Born Again” through Season 1, Episode 4.]

Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) have always had a lot in common, including a shared belief their beloved city needs to be cleaned up. In “Daredevil: Born Again” Episode 4, written by David Feige & Jesse Wigutow and directed by Jeffrey Nachmanoff, Matt faces the limits of his above board legal work when he infers that he’s up against police officers — some of the most dangerous individuals he’ll ever encounter, all protected and propped up by the system he has no choice but to trust.

Matt doesn’t believe for a second that Hector (Kamar de los Reyes) was executed by Punisher Aka Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal), and moves right to the obvious answer: it was the cops, because Hector got in their way, and his freedom was both an inconvenience and an insult.

As much as Fisk was and...

Daredevil: Born Again Episode 4 Has A Callback To Marvel's Worst Disney+ Series
Image
Warning: This article contains major spoilers for the latest episode of "Daredevil: Born Again."

If there was still any remaining doubt over whether "Daredevil: Born Again" takes place within the familiar confines of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, well, there shouldn't be. There's the main title, after all, which alludes to both a popular comic book series run and the fact that the Netflix series has been "reborn" into the rest of the MCU. Of course, the first two episodes also included multiple references to the overall franchise that established a shared continuity with Marvel characters such as Joe Bernthal's Punisher (duh), Tom Holland's Peter Parker/Spider-Man, and Chris Evans' Steve Rogers. Now, however, the series has gone even further by directly addressing one of the more forgotten aspects of the wider universe -- and it involves, by far, the worst Disney+ series we've had the misfortune of watching.

Let's...

‘Tron: Ares’ Will Be “A Little Grittier, a Little Bit More Industrial”
Image
Tron is today regarded as a cult classic, having been one of the most well-liked science fiction movies of its time when it debuted in 1982. Despite receiving mixed reviews for its 2010 sequel, Tron: Legacy, Disney decided to go ahead and make another sequel. Tron: Ares will be the following film in the series and will be a stand-alone follow-up to the first two films.

We know that the movie will be led by Jared Leto, as well as that franchise veteran Jeff Bridges will also be coming back to the movie. On top of that, we have a lot of the casting information, as well as a trailer; this is all we have already reported on.

In light of that, director Joachim Rønning shared some updates on the movie, explaining that the film’s tone will change when compared to the previous films, and he also confirmed some exciting news about the music.

'Tron: Ares' Image Offers New Look At Jared Leto in the Sci-Fi Sequel
Image
Its time to re-enter The Grid as we finally have our first proper look at Tron 3 (Tron: Ares). In a new interview with Empire, director Joachim Rnning has teased what we can expect from one of the most integral elements of the movie: the soundtrack. The previous installment, Tron: Legacy, was bolstered by a heart-thumping soundtrack by Daft Punk. This time, The Grid and Rnning turn to the talents of Nine Inch Nails to tell this "emotional" tale.

With Nine Inch Nails making the music, this instalment will be a little grittier, a little bit more industrial. Its been important for me to contrast The Grid and the real world. In that sense, Nine Inch Nails lends itself perfectly into this new Tron world that we are creating.

What I always look for in any story is a strong emotional core. This film will probably be more emotional than people are expecting.

Daredevil: Born Again's Fired Head Writers Are Now Only Credited For A Single Season 1 Episode
Image
Last October, the news broke that Marvel Studios had fired Daredevil: Born Again Head Writers Chris Ord and Matt Corman as part of a creative overhaul.

Directors hired to helm the remaining instalments of the 9-episode were also let go, and while some of the material shot will still be used, the idea was to take the Daredevil revival in a new creative direction.

Dario Scardapane was later tapped to serve as showrunner, with Moon Knight and Loki directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead brought on board to help right the ship.

Now, the Writers Guild of America website has revealed the official writing credits and Ord and Corman are only credited for the second episode. This suggests that most of their ideas were left on the cutting room floor and their contributions are now minimal at best. They will, however, still be named as executive producers.

Scardapane's name shows up quite a bit,...

Image
Tron: Ares is the long-awaited sequel to the franchise brought by Disney, and they've now unveiled an official look at the film's new Light Cycle. Starring Jared Leto as a computer program called Ares, the digital reality of Tron is leaking into the real world, making the upcoming sequel the first time Light Cycles will be roaming busy city streets. Familiar characters from the franchise return, while a new cast leads the highly-anticipated follow-up to the underrated Tron: Legacy and the original 1982 film.

Tron 3 Footage Released at D23 and Teases Nine Inch Nails Score

D23 returns us to The Grid thanks to the recently screened footage of Tron: Ares. Actors Jared Leto, Greta Lee, Jeff Bridges, and Evan Peters joined the D23 stage to introduce the footage, which Deadline describes as follows:

"The light cycles of Tron are seen speeding through city streets, leaving laser thin waves behind them, and splicing cars on the street in half. Jared Leto plays the Tron-like character clad in red while Greta Lee plays a brilliant programmer whose great work has Ares coming into the world. Leto in the voice-over of the trailer says, I came here to find somethingsomething important. We see him zooming on a light cycle with Lees character. Bridges, who is the hacker and original video game character Kevin Flynn, appears as something of an apparition at the end in white robes."

The grid is back online.

Disney unveiled the first footage of “Tron: Ares,” the third film in the sci-fi franchise about a world of virtual reality based inside a computer mainframe. Cast members Jared Leto, Evan Peters, Greta Lee and Jeff Bridges unveiled the first look on Friday night during Disney’s marathon presentation of its upcoming slate during the D23 Expo.

At the end of the footage, a title card revealed that the score was compased by Nine Inch Nails, the industrial rock and electronica band founded by Trent Reznor and joined in 2016 by frequent collaborator Atticus Ross. Reznor and Ross, who’ve won Oscars for their scores for 2010’s “The Social Network” and 2020’s “Soul,” appeared briefly on stage together after the announcement.

Trent Reznor
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are getting zapped into the grid — and Nine inch Nails is back.

Reznor and Ross, who in addition to being Hollywood’s most in-demand composers are also members of industrial rock outfit Nine Inch Nails, have some mighty big shoes to fill. 1982’s “Tron” had a cutting-edge score composed by Wendy Carlos, who had also composed the score to Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining” and “A Clockwork Orange.”
