At the age of 9, he started playing in the theatre. Later, he appeared in many films and series, spending over two years of his youth on a film set. As a high school student, he founded a theatre group, where he produced performances. One was staged at the Sydney Opera House as part of the Young Playwrights Festival. When he started his studies at the Polish National Film School in Lodz he gave up pursuing an acting career. He is a graduate of the Film and Television Directing Department. Known mainly as the director and screenwriter of the epic film and series "Popieluszko. Freedom is in us" which was commercially very successful in Poland and was sold to dozens of territories and won a few awards. His debut comedy "A really short film about love, killing and one more commandment" was premiered at The Venice International Film Critics' Week and won few awards on other festivals. For 10 years Rafal was also a co-producer and artistic director of the weekly magazine "Raj" broadcast on the biggest at the time Polish television channel, where he supervised about 400 documentaries. Some of them he directed or edited himself.
Rafal has also devoted several years to activities for the public good - he initiated the bill on incentives for audiovisual production, introduced in Poland in 2018 with the support of all political forces. After this experience he focuses exclusively on artistic projects and is now working on the production of his third feature film, "How much do You love me?".
