Kamala Harris has earned enough delegate votes to become the Democratic presidential nominee, as the party conducts a virtual roll call in advance of the convention in Chicago later this month.

Jaime Harrison made the announcement during a virtual event with Harris supporters.

“I am so proud to confirm that Vice President Harris has earned more than a majority of votes from all convention delegates and will be the nominee of the Democratic Party following the close of voting on Monday,” Harrison said on the call.

Update, 5:53 a.m. Pt, Wednesday: The “uncommitted” vote in Michigan’s Democratic primary garnered about 13.2% of the vote, while President Joe Biden received more than 81%, according to the latest results.

As huge of a victory as that is, the protest campaign to cast ballots for “uncommitted” drew more than 100,000 votes.

While progressives and moderates debate the significance of the protest vote — largely of Biden’s support for Israel in the war in Gaza — overlooked is what happened further down the ballot. Rep. Dean Phillips (D-mn), who represents a suburban Minneapolis congressional district, launched a challenge to President Joe Biden for the Democratic nomination.

His announcement has been expected for weeks, as Phillips, 54, warns that Biden’s age and low approval mean that he very likely may lose to Donald Trump next year. Trump has a wide lead against the GOP field.

In an interview with CBS News’ Robert Costa on CBS Mornings, Phillips said that he thinks Biden has “done a spectacular job for our country, but it is not about the past. This is an election about the future.”

“I will not sit still, I will not be quiet in the face of numbers that are so clearly saying that we going to be facing an emergency next November,” he said.

In the interview and in his campaign video, Phillips said that now was the time to “pass the torch” to a new generation.

Project Angel Food broke ground on its new Chuck Lorre Family Foundation Campus on Thursday in star-studded style, with supporters Jamie Lee Curtis, Sheryl Lee Ralph and Lorre himself present at the Los Angeles ceremony.

The organization — which strives to end food insecurity for critically ill men, women and children in L.A. County — announced the launch of “Rise to the Challenge: The Campaign to Expand Project Angel Food,” a multi-year campaign that includes a $51 million expansion and renovation of Project Angel Food’s current Vine Street building and construction of a new facility next door. In honor of the lead gift, the two buildings will be named The Chuck Lorre Family Foundation Campus; construction is expected to be completed by 2027.

Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders may sit at different ends of the spectrum of Democratic politics, but the progressive senator from Vermont is already throwing his weight behind the incumbent’s 2024 reelection bid.

“The last thing this country needs is a Donald Trump or some other right-wing demagogue who is going to try to undermine American democracy or take away a woman’s right to choose, or not address the crisis of gun violence, or racism, sexism or homophobia,” Sanders said in an interview with The Associated Press on Tuesday.

President Joe Biden made the official announcement Tuesday that he is running for reelection.

The announcement came in a three-minute launch video.

“When I ran for president four years ago, I said we were in a battle for the soul of America. Eric McCormack is joining Ktla anchor Jessica Holmes to host a Project Angel Food live telethon on July 17.

The event is presented by City National Bank and will raise money for expanded Project Angel Food service, with a client base of 2,300 per day, compared to 1,500 per day before the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. Taffy Brodesser-Akner’s “Fleishman Is in Trouble” limited series has been officially picked up to series at FX.

First put into development in 2019, the project sees Brodesser-Akner adapting her own critically acclaimed debut novel as a nine-episode limited series. The story centers on recently separated 40-something Toby Fleishman, whose ex-wife, Rachel, disappears, leaving him with the kids and no hint of where she is or whether she plans to return.

Brodesser-Akner will write and executive produce alongside Sarah Timberman, Susannah Grant and Carl Beverly of Timberman/Beverly Productions. The project hails from ABC Signature.
