There’s something delightfully audacious about a film that knows exactly what it is and revels in the absurdity of its premise, and Werewolves certainly begins with that promise. Directed by Steven C. Miller, this dystopian action-horror hybrid introduces a world where humanity is plunged into chaos every time a supermoon rises, triggering a lycanthropic pandemic. It’s a premise that practically howls for gleeful mayhem, and yet, despite flashes of potential, the film frustratingly trips over its own paws.
Frank Grillo leads the pack as Dr. Wesley Marshall, a molecular biologist moonlighting as a rugged action hero, a trope so gleefully self-aware it borders on parody. Grillo has a natural charisma and an ability to elevate even the most ludicrous of scenarios, which serves him well here. Wesley, a man of science and shotguns, finds himself trying to protect his late brother’s family from the werewolf plague while...

Werewolves, originally titled Year 2, begins a year after a supermoon turned everyone who was exposed to it into a werewolf. For those who aren’t familiar with the term, a supermoon is a full moon that occurs when the moon is at the closest point to Earth, they have a dramatic effect on things like tides, but this one goes further than that. It unlocks mankind’s latent werewolf gene, causing unimaginable chaos and death. And now it’s about to happen again.
When we first meet Wesley Marshal he’s busy setting up defences at the home of his sister-in-law Lucy and her young daughter, Emma. They need the help because Wesley’s brother was a firefighter, killed in the line of duty during the first transformation.

A while back, we featured director David Fincher’s 2002 home invasion thriller Panic Room on a list of hard to find movies, given the fact that the movie had never made it to Blu-ray. Thankfully, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has now decided to make the movie easier to find, as they have announced that they’re giving Panic Room a 4K Uhd release on February 18th!
Scripted by David Koepp, Panic Room has the following synopsis: Trapped in their New York brownstone’s panic room, a hidden chamber built as a sanctuary in the event of break-ins, newly divorced Meg Altman (Jodie Foster) and her daughter, Sarah (Kristen Stewart), play a deadly game of cat-and-mouse with three intruders—Burnham (Forest Whitaker), Raoul (Dwight Yoakam) and Junior (Jared Leto)—during a brutal home invasion. “Werewolves” is your basic, everyday lean-and-mean dystopian werewolf-as-zombie action thriller, with elements lifted from the pandemic and the “Purge” films. It’s not a good movie, but it’s a tight little time passer. Frank Grillo, who’s at the center of it (playing a ripped bruiser who is also…a molecular biologist!), has a way of making any pulp movie better. He’s like a brainy Charles Bronson. And the plot is simplicity itself, and efficiency too: On the night of a supermoon (that’s when the full moon comes closest to Earth), people all over the globe are transformed into towering werewolves if they look at the moon for so much as one second. Talk about a good reason to stay home and stream something.
How are the werewolves? Cheesy in a fun way. As in self-consciously old-fashioned, or maybe just lavishly threadbare. A lot of people now...

Alongside Kevin James, the cast of the 2011 comedy, Zookeeper, sees many high-profile celebrities help make it a memorable fantasy movie as they voice several of its anthropomorphic animals. James stars as the titular hero, who is considering a career switch as he feels thats the only way he can improve his chances at finding love. The news comes as a shock to his animal friends, and the zoo creatures try and set him up with someone else to convince him to stay. Zookeeper didnt fare well with most critics but is still worth a watch for family-friendly comedy fans.
What is worth noting about the Zookeeper cast is the stellar voice cast behind the animals and the actual animals themselves. The movie features some iconic animal performers, like Crystal the Monkey who provides the physical likeness for the tufted capuchin Donald, and the late Bart the Bear 2 who plays the grizzly bear Jerome.

This post contains spoilers for "Alien: Romulus."
Director Fede Alvarez has successfully revived the "Alien" franchise with his new film "Alien: Romulus." Marketed largely as a back-to-basics, scary space adventure with lots of practical Xenomorphs, Disney was able to get moviegoers to buy into what Alvarez was selling. It was in some ways a bait and switch, as the third act of the film takes a very big swing, bringing to life a horrific human/Xenomorph/Engineer hybrid known as "The Offspring," played by Tom Woodruff Jr. Disney, being a historically family-friendly company that isn't used to such R-rated shenanigans, somewhat understandably pushed back against this.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Alvarez went into spoiler territory with the outlet, breaking down "Romulus" and even revealing plans for a potential sequel (albeit one that would possibly be years away from actually happening). The director, whose previous credits include...

Ridley Scott's "Alien" from 1979 is one of the most important films ever made: a gripping sci-fi horror film about the crew of the commercial star freighter Nostromo, who investigate an alien distress call only to be attacked by a grotesquely sexual nightmare creature that spawns a gigantic being known as the Xenomorph. Given the infancy of digital effects at the time, the Xenomorph was played by Nigerian visual artist Bolaji Badejo. Standing 6'10" and donning an impressive suit modeled after the designs of H.R. Giger, the practicality of the Xenomorph suit put the creature right in front of the actors, adding to the fear factor while also showcasing a masterclass in monster FX.
6'2" special effects supervisor Tom Woodruff Jr. donned the Xenomorph suit for several "Alien" sequels beginning with "Aliens," but when Ridley Scott returned to the franchise with "Prometheus" and "Alien: Covenant,...

Werewolves seem poised to make a return in a big way in the coming year as Automaton Transfusion director Steven C. Miller gears up to release his film, aptly titled Werewolves, this December.
Miller took to X (formerly Twitter) to sound off on a Bloody Disgusting post about his movie, promising genre fans that this film really "swings for the fences" and goes full throttle, bringing "hard, fast, and ferocious" monster mayhem.

Chaos ensued and close to a billion people died. Now, a year later, the Supermoon is back.

With a love of cinema woven into its DNA, The Monster Squad helped indoctrinate ’80s kids to the classic monsters. The generation that grew up watching it on home video and HBO look back on the 1987 film with the same reverence director Fred Dekker had for the Universal monster movies, and now they’re passing it down in a similar fashion. There’s no better way to introduce the next generation than with the new 4K edition.
Conceived as “The Little Rascals meets the Universal Monsters,” the cleverly-plotted film clocks in at a tight 82 minutes. The punchy script by Dekker and Shane Black doesn’t have an ounce of fat on it, save for the casual homophobia, misogyny, and body shaming of the time. Drawing inspiration from Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, human characters offer well-placed levity and a bevy of memorable one-liners, but the monsters are played straight.

When we get a glimpse of the fully-grown xenomorph in Ridley Scott's "Alien" for the first time, the dread felt by the crew aboard the Nostromo is immediately heightened to new levels. An apex predator with an unforgettably imposing structure, the xenomorph faithfully embodies the moniker of the "perfect organism" as it hunts, covets, and adapts ruthlessly throughout the film. Nigerian visual artist Bolaji Badejo donned the suit of this legendary creature for Scott's film, bringing the xenomorph to life in a way that would cement its legacy as one of the most recognizable monsters in horror.
The xenomorph suit, whose design and structural aesthetics were created by H.R. Giger, consisted of a dozen pieces that had to be put together on top of a one-piece suit. The alien's elongated headpiece, which was detachable and went on last, was once likened by Bolaji to "having your head stuck up...

A dozen years have gone by since the release of director Matthijs van Heijningen Jr.’s prequel to John Carpenter’s 1982 classic The Thing (watch the prequel Here). Looking back at the project now, van Heijningen has some regrets over the way the special effects were handled on the film, and that he was never able to make the sequel they had plans for.
Directed by van Heijningen from a screenplay written by Eric Heisserer and based on the short story Who Goes There? by John W. Campbell (using the pen name Don A. Stuart), The Thing 2011 has the following synopsis: After Norwegian researchers discover an alien ship buried in the ice, paleontologist Kate Lloyd joins the team at the isolated Arctic outpost to investigate. She finds an organism that appears to have perished in the crash eons ago but, in fact, is about to awake. Freed from its icy prison,...

As other studios come under fire for their treatment of the industry, Universal is being slammed for their CGI criticisms in a tweet for John Carpenter's The Thing. Based on John W. Campbell Jr.'s novella Who Goes There?, the 1982 sci-fi horror film centered on a group of American researchers stationed in an isolated Antarctica base who begin a descent into paranoia as they discover the titular alien species that can perfectly imitate any organism. Led by frequent Carpenter collaborators Kurt Russell and Keith David, The Thing was poorly received upon its release, though has been reappraised as one of Carpenter's best.
One of the biggest elements initially met with division now praised in Carpenter's The Thing was its practical effects designed by Rob Bottin and Stan Winston. Universal recently took to Twitter to applaud the practical effects with the post saying that "CGI could never" depict its iconic moments.

Pretty much from the moment the sci-fi action classic Predator was released in 1987, fans were wondering what it would be like if the alien hunter from that film were to clash with the xenomorphs from the Alien franchise. Dark Horse Comics dove into the concept right away, publishing their first Aliens vs. Predator story in 1989. It took a lot longer for the battle to reach the big screen, though. The deaths of Newt, Corporal Dwayne Hicks, and Ellen Ripley in 1992’s Alien 3 created a significant obstacle to the franchise’s continuation. Five years later, Alien: Resurrection answered this problem by resurrecting central heroine Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) as a clone, spliced with xenomorph DNA thanks to the alien queen embryo gestating within the actual Ripley before her death. How Resurrection handled this pesky problem, and the return of the xenomorphs proved extremely divisive upon release, with one notable, unifying exception: the mesmerizing underwater chase sequence.
Resurrection takes place two centuries after Alien 3 and follows the mercenary crew of the starship Betty. The mercs deliver their human payload to the Usm Auriga, a military ship deep into their extensive scientific study of the xenomorphs. So much so that they’ve cloned Ripley numerous times over and have full-grown xenomorphs in captivity, which happen to break free while the Betty crew are on board,...

In the words of Kevin Bacon, "Funny-scary is a very difficult thing." The star of Ron Underwood's horror-comedy "Tremors" has spoken at length about the 1990 creature feature and his role as stubborn handyman Val McKee who, alongside Fred Ward's Earl Bassett, tries to escape the doldrums of Perfection, Nevada when giant prehistoric underground monsters interrupt their flight.
In the documentary "Tremors: Making Perfection," Bacon, Underwood, and the rest of the film's cast and crew go long on its journey from page to screen. It began as a simple concept from writers S. S. Wilson and Brent Maddock, who were collecting footage for a Navy safety video when they thought about what it would be like if something had them marooned on a rock. The story, then dubbed "Land Sharks," would be retitled "Beneath Perfection" before finally landing on "Tremors."

The phenomenal success of "Footloose" launched Kevin Bacon into newfound stardom and recognition when it danced its way into theaters in February of 1984. Bacon had already appeared in "Friday the 13th" and Barry Levinson's coming-of-age classic "Diner," but the role of Ren McCormack essentially made the young heartthrob a household name. The surprisingly dark bike messenger drama "Quicksilver" came next, a movie I personally love that didn't exactly light the box office on fire. Working with John Hughes and Christopher Guest on "She's Having a Baby" and "The Big Picture" produced two quality films that showcased Bacon as an unconventional leading man; however, neither movie broke through to the mainstream.
The heat generated from "Footloose" was burning out, and Bacon, in a recent EW interview, admitted he wasn't doing well financially when the creature feature "Tremors" came his way.

Smile, out in theaters this Friday, is the “intensely creepy debut feature” from writer/director Parker Finn.
His feature debut makes for an interesting spiritual successor to his 2020 short film, “Laura Hasn’t Slept,” which stars Caitlin Stasey as a woman seeking help from her therapist over her troubling nightmares.
Ahead of Smile‘s release on September 30, Bloody Disgusting spoke with Finn about creating a loose continuation of his short, crafting scares, and teaming up with horror SFX legends for his feature debut.
Finn explained how the idea for Smile came during post-production of his short film.
“I made the short to exist in its own right. I think that’s how all good shorts should exist instead of being a commercial for something bigger. While I was in post, something about the idea kept nagging at me, and this larger story started forming in my head with a different character at its center.

Ever since its first disastrous design for the 1987 "Predator" movie, each iteration of the Yautja, known most commonly as "the Predator," has been reworked and reimagined for the screen while also trying to find new ways to make it easier for the performers playing the creature. This has been no easy feat in part due to the overall species' design of the Yautja.
The design itself is thoroughly intimidating. Yautja are generally tall and muscular, with their bodies looming over their prospective victims. They sport hair-like appendages, which, while not exactly intimidating, are striking. To wrap up the terror, the species features mandibles that heighten fear once revealed when their masks are removed. All of these elements work against comfortability for the actor embodying the Predator creature from start to finish.

As the best-reviewed film featuring the elusive Predator, "Prey" is a return to form for the long-running franchise in more ways than one. Following a sole protagonist in Naru (Amber Midthunder), the Indigenous-led narrative recalls the bare-bones, cat-and-mouse game that made the original "Predator" film so riveting. The creature that inhabits the unique setting is a different, devolved Predator (Dane Diliegro) that still instills pure terror in its prey. The innovative nature of "Prey" is partially thanks to the new faces in front and behind the screen, but longtime collaborators contribute to the refreshing update of the previously-declining property.
Behind the scenes, "Prey" features the return of select filmmakers closely attached to the foundation of the franchise. The prequel brings back special effects veterans Alec Gillis and Tom Woodruff Jr. to handle the creature that torments "Prey," redesigning the futuristic, complex look typically attributed to the Predator to fit the 1719 setting.

With every movie in the "Predator" franchise, each respective creative team has sought to revitalize and reinvent the eponymous creatures hunting our hapless group of humans in the hopes of living up to the original classic. Whether in the jungles of Vietnam or the streets of Los Angeles or otherworldly locations entirely, various protagonists have come up against the unstoppable might of the Yautja and only a very select few have ever walked away from those encounters — in part because of how different (subtly or otherwise) each antagonist has been carefully designed for each outing.
The villain in the shadows of director Dan Trachtenberg's "Prey" (portrayed by Dane Diliegro) is no exception, having undergone a radical visual shakeup to reflect the brand-new setting of the latest installment. Set in early 1700s America, the script written by Patrick Aison brings the action way back in time before technological advancements — for...

The team responsible for bringing the Predator to life in Hulu’s acclaimed prequel “Prey” was uniquely positioned for the project. StudioADI’s award-winning industry veterans Alec Gillis and Tom Woodruff Jr. have worked on many celebrated films, including the original “Predator,” and they are the co-creators of the alien in director Dan Trachtenberg’s film. “Prey” has also achieved record-breaking debut viewership for the streamer, and inside that Predator suit is monster actor Dane Diliegro.
“Prey’s” iteration of the iconic creature, which is a combination of physical costuming and CGI, differs from previous incarnations. “Some of our earliest conversations with Dan were about making this Predator super slim with some kind of weird camouflage and different from the reptilian thing we’ve seen before,” Woodruff Jr. explained, adding that the different proportions hinted at the Predator’s stage of development.
“This one’s head wasn’t huge, the dreadlocks became thinner,...
