We recently got word that Denis Villeneuve had officially signed on to direct the next James Bond movie, and the project has now enlisted a screenwriter.
Amazon MGM Studios has announced that Steven Knight will pen the script for 007's next adventure.
“It’s fantastic to be invited to do it,” Knight told the BBC shortly after his involvement was made public. “I can’t wait to get started.”
“I’m hoping that being a Bond fan for so many years, that will sort of be imbued into me and I’ll be able to produce something that’s the same but different and better and stronger and bolder,” he added.
Knight was also asked if he knows who will be stepping in to replace Daniel Craig as the iconic secret agent, and responded: “Very, very good question and one I can’t give you the answer to."
We're not sure if Villeneuve and co.

Who would you say are the best current action stars? Tom Cruise? Jason Statham? Keanu Reeves? Donnie Yen? Dwayne Johnson? Well, guess what—all of those actors are over fifty. In fact, Cruise, Reeves, and Yen are all over sixty. A few of the most legendary action stars, all of whom are still cranking out movies—like Sylvester Stallone, Jackie Chan, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Liam Neeson—are well over seventy. And Harrison Ford, Indiana Jones himself, is in his eighties.
So what, you might say—people get old. Deal with it. And that’s absolutely true. But there’s a huge vacuum in Hollywood that no one really addresses: where are the younger action heroes? Who is going to pick up the mantle once the legends are gone?
Of the names listed above, I’d expect Statham, Reeves, and Cruise to keep making action movies well into their seventies and beyond.

Chris Hemsworth's submarine thriller, Subversion, casts its female lead in the form of an Emmy-nominated star. Earlier this year, it was announced that Hemsworth would be starring in a submarine action thriller for Amazon MGM Studios, directed by Patrick Vollrath, whose debut feature was the plane hijack thriller 7500, with a script written by Andrew Ferguson, known only for the short film Love Thy Neighbor.
The film follows a once-promising Naval commander (played by Chris Hemsworth) who is coerced by a cartel-style operation into captaining a submarine smuggling illegal cargo through international waters. Forced into a deadly game of cat and mouse, he must outmaneuver naval blockades and navigate several threats lurking both inside the vessel and beyond its hull.
Now, several months after it was first announced, Hemsworth's submarine thriller has found its female lead. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Subversion has cast Lily James in a lead role.

Rob Zombie has said that for every one film project of his that moves forward, there are five potential projects that fall by the wayside. We haven’t heard of quite that many unmade Rob Zombie movies, but we have heard of several over the years that never got off the ground… and unfortunately, most of them sounded pretty interesting. A little over a year ago, Zombie had said he didn’t know what his next movie is going to be, but he did know what it’s not going to be: he won’t be continuing his Firefly franchise, and he doesn’t want to make a sequel to The Munsters (which was poorly received). So while he figures out his next cinematic move, we we have put together a list of Rob Zombie Movies We Want To See!

Glen Powell may be closing the door on ever joining the ranks of superpowered heroes in the Marvel or DC universes.
In a recent interview with Empire Magazine, the Top Gun: Maverick and Twisters star revealed he's not particularly drawn to roles that involve capes, cosmic powers, or mutant abilities.
“I just don’t identify with people with superpowers for the most part,” Powell explained, discussing what led him to take on the role of Richards in the upcoming remake of The Running Man. “I like the ordinary guy against extraordinary odds. The entire world is hunting this man, trying to kill him. Can he survive? Can he save his family? That’s a great, simple story.”
Powell's comments seem to dash fan hopes of seeing him play characters like Aquaman or Nova, popular choices in recent fancast discussions.

Though Glen Powell has been linked to many superhero roles, he is set to portray a more normal protagonist in the anticipated remake of The Running Man. His character, Ben Richards, is more of an everyman whom the actor can relate to more easily.
Speaking to Empire about the modernized adaptation of the popular Stephen King novel, Powell explained why Richards appealed to him. "I just don’t identify with people with superpowers for the most part," he said. "I like the ordinary guy against extraordinary odds. The entire world is hunting this man, trying to kill him. Sometimes studios just can’t fight the power of fan casting. In-demand star Elle Fanning recently confirmed that she joined prequel film “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” in part due to fans online.
“I think fans made this happen in a way,” Fanning told MTV in the below video. “The studio [Lionsgate] said they were getting kind of hounded online, like, ‘Elle needs to play Effie.'”
Fanning was announced to be playing Effie Trinket on May 20; the character was originally brought to the screen by Elizabeth Banks, whom Fanning said that she “loves.”
Fanning added to Et that Effie is her “favorite character” because of “how great” Banks’ performance is. According to Fanning, Banks also congratulated her on being cast in the role. “She sent me flowers that were beautiful, saying, ‘The odds are ever in your favor,'” Fanning said, continuing that she really does want...

A new image for Glen Powell's The Running Manhas been unveiled. Based on Stephen King's survival thriller of the same name, the upcoming movie adaptation sees Powell in a Squid Game-like plot, where he plays an ordinary man who enters a deadly televised game to win money to save his family.
Slated to arrive in theaters on November 7, The Running Man is helmed by Baby Driver director Edgar Wright. Joining Powell in the cast are Lee Pace as Evan McCone, Josh Brolin as Dan Killian, Michael Cera as Elton, Katy O'Brian as Laughlin, Colman Domingo as Bobby Thompson, and many others.
Now, Empirehas unveiled a new image from the movie, featuring Powell seemingly training for the competition. The actor can be seen running in front of a screen in a white suit, as opposed to the hooded jacket he wears in the game, which was previously featured in the official trailer.

Sometimes, we want a blockbuster that gives us an extraordinary hero – a super man or fantastic family to rally behind, going up against impossible intergalactic odds. But on the flip-side, it’s hard not to root for stories about the everyman (or woman) – someone not destined for hero-dom, but thrust into circumstances where they’ll have to dig deep to survive. The Running Man is firmly in the latter mould, a fresh adaptation of the Stephen King novel from director Edgar Wright, with Glen Powell as Ben Richards – a man who enters a deadly televised game to win the money he desperately needs to save his family.
He couldn’t be more of the everyman hero. “I just don’t identify with people with superpowers for the most part,” Powell tells Empire, of why Richards appealed to him so much. “I like the ordinary guy against extraordinary odds. The entire world is hunting this man,...

Among the various Stephen King adaptations released this year, none of them reach the deeply melancholic and emotional level that The Life of Chuck does. Originally released at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, The Life of Chuck is now set for a digital release, a couple of months after the film premiered in theaters. Mike Flanagan's most personal and intimate project yet, the movie should not be missed. Featuring an ensemble cast that includes Tom HIddelston, Jacob Tremblay, Karen Gillian, Mark Hamill, Mia Sara, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and many more, The Life of Chuck will now be available to watch at home.
Mike Flanagan's The Life of Chuck will be heading to digital platforms starting Tuesday, July 29. Purchase and rent options will be available on services like Fandango at Home, Apple TV, and Prime Video, among others. The film tells the story of Charles "Chuck" Krantz and the significant moments...

If you need to get your heart pumping this summer, you don't need to pick a fight with a biker gang or zap yourself with a defibrillator: try a safer option and watch Jason Statham's high-octane action thriller Crank. It won't cost you a dime, because as of August 1, it's streaming on Vizio WatchFree+. The streaming service is available for free to anyone using a Vizio device.
Crank, a cross between Doa and Speed, was almost a very different movie: writer-directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor conceived of the film with Johnny Knoxville in mind for the lead. Instead, Statham ended up as the film's leading man, although he had doubts about whether he could handle the comedic aspects of the script. What he could handle were the film's death-defying stunts, most of which he performed himself. The film's mix of over-the-top comedy and brutal action proved to be...

Lionsgate, like the rest of Hollywood, cannot get enough of Stephen King. With The Long Walk hitting theaters this fall, the studio is now looking to be behind the first adaptation of King's 1999 novel The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate has optioned the rights to the 1999 psychological horror novel and tapped Jt Mollner to write and direct the adaptation. Mollner is best known for his 2024 breakout hit Strange Darling, which wowed critics and audiences, including King himself, who called the thriller "really terrific" and "a clever masterpiece" on X last year. Tom Gordon will actually serve as Mollner's second project based on a King novel, as he scripted Lionsgate's upcoming Long Walk adaptation, which Francis Lawrence directed and is set to hit theaters on Sept. 12.
"Jt is a filmmaker we believe has a bright future," said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group president Erin Westerman in a statement.

Stephen King fans have had a lot to enjoy this year, with several new movies based on his stories hitting screens. Most of King’s classic films, like The Shining and Carrie, were made before the 2000s. He’s also known for some non-horror favorites like The Green Mile and Stand by Me.
One of the latest King movies, The Life of Chuck, isn’t a horror film. It didn’t do well in theaters, but critics liked it, giving it an 81% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Monkey, an adaptation of Stephen King‘s short story by the same name, from Oz Perkins, finally has a streaming release. Starring Theo James and Tatiana Maslany in the lead, the movie follows a family caught up amidst a sinister toy monkey’s grip after twin brothers Bill and Hal unearth it.
Although the adaptations of King’s works have had a mixed reputation in recent years, 2025 is proving to be a fresh turn with Mike Flanagan’s The Life of Chuck and The Monkey, which is headed to Hulu on August 7.

Sylvester Stallone, who starred in action movies back in the 1980s, ’90s, and the present as well, is a Hollywood icon. Known for his rivalry with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Stallone’s movies (much like Arnold Schwarzenegger) are finally getting a remake.
The twist in the tale is that although Cliffhanger starred Stallone in the lead role in 1993, the remake will replace him with a female star. According to Screenrant, the upcoming remake will be directed by Jaume Collet-Serra with Lily James and Pierce Brosnan in leading roles.
As Hollywood runs dry on original movies and the new generation takes an interest in the older movies, remakes are inevitable. Hollywood has already started this trend with Arnold Schwarzenegger as The Running Man, and recently got a remake starring Glen Powell in the lead role.
However, Cliffhanger is officially the first remake of a Sylvester Stallone action film, and it probably won’t be the last.

The 2020s, especially this year, have been a great time for Stephen King adaptations. Until recently, many of the most classic King-based films were released before the 21st century. It should go without saying that Shaun of the Dead wouldn’t exist without the work of George A. Romero. The late filmmaker pioneered the zombie movie genre with classics such as Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead and the Japanese commercial for Resident Evil 2 that was better than every single Resident Evil movie.
So naturally, when Shaun of the Dead star and co-writer Simon Pegg visited the “Criterion Closet” — i.e., the room beloved by movie obsessives who aren’t claustrophobes — he highlighted Romero’s classic Night of the Living Dead.
“George Romero basically invented the modern zombie movie, and I don’t think he gets enough credit for it,” Pegg argued. “Because a lot of people have taken his idea — myself included, and Edgar Wright, although (Shaun of the Dead) was very much a tribute to George — and sort of run with it, as...

James Gunn’s recently released Superman movie has officially kick-started a new era for the DC Universe. After the slow-mo shots, the hopeful representation of the superhero character, and the carefully introduced villains—if the first film is any indication, we’re in for a bold, auteur-driven ride.
But I believe, one great movie doesn’t build a cinematic universe—it takes visionaries. And not just any visionaries; it needs the kind who can maintain the style that Gunn introduced, as well as bring their own depth and offer a fresh voice to characters that’ve been neglected for far too long.
So now, with James Gunn‘s promise of a rebooted Dcu, there seems to be a golden opportunity for acclaimed filmmakers to take the wheel. But who should shape this brave new DC world alongside Gunn? Well, I’ve handpicked 10 directors who aren’t just talented—but literally...

James Gunn’s Superman has become a major turning point for DC Studios, and I’d like the momentum to keep going, even after its release. David Corenswet emerged as our new Man of Steel, effortlessly, despite the hate. And this rebooted universe, which is currently in its Phase 1, ‘Gods and Monsters’ arc, signals a strong start ahead.
The positive early buzz and huge box office numbers have all materialized due to Gunn’s creative vision. I am hoping that he returns for a sequel, but assuming he steps away to focus on other Dcu projects, I believe these five directors could absolutely take his spot to direct Superman’s next flight.

The world of The Handmaid's Tale will expand with a new series on Hulu, and Apple TV+ is adapting William Gibson's revolutionary Neuromancer novel. Not all horror is terrifying, and sometimes that decision is intentional. You know the kind: films that aren’t especially scary, but might be someone’s first step into discovering the joys of the genre. Finn Wolfhard and Billy Bryk’s Hell of a Summer certainly fits this profile, though whether it’s an affectionate homage to 80s slashers or just a flat pastiche depends entirely on how generous you’re feeling.
On paper, their ideas are all too familiar. A group of fresh-faced summer camp counsellors arrive at the remote Camp Pineway for pre-season training, only to find themselves stalked by a masked killer. It’s Friday the 13th meets Wet Hot American Summer, with a dash of Scream-style self-awareness thrown in for good measure. But while the cast is game and the film has a certain breezy charm, there’s a nagging sense that Wolfhard and Bryk are...

Exclusive: In advance of Comic-Con 2025, Gale Anne Hurd’s Valhalla Entertainment (The Walking Dead) has acquired Yuletide, an upcoming Christmas-themed comic book from Oni Press (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World), for feature development.
Created by writer George Northy (EC’s Shiver SuspenStories) and artist Rachele Aragno (Mike Mignola’s Leonide the Vampire), with its first issue set to hit stands in October, the comic is described as a fast-paced family adventure in the tradition of The Goonies, Goosebumps, and Hocus Pocus with a horrifying holiday twist. In the story, ancient Norse creatures let loose upon an idyllic Northeastern town at the height of the gift-giving season — and the only three teenagers capable of holding them at bay with an ancient secret tied to the origins of the holiday itself.
Welcome to the small town of Christmas, Pennsylvania – the merriest place on Earth… or so they’d like everyone to think.

In 2008, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) appeared in a post-credit sequence for "Iron Man" where he was startled to see a man dressed in black standing by a window in his home. "Who the hell are you?" Stark asks, prompting the man to step from the shadows and reveal himself: "Nick Fury, director of S.H.I.E.L.D.," played by none other than Samuel L. Jackson.
This 30-second scene -- placed after the credits at the behest of director Edgar Wright -- shifted the pop culture landscape and all but ensured audiences would start sitting through lengthy end titles just to catch a few seconds teasing the next big adventure. The trend continues to this day, and it's almost disappointing when a movie, especially a big blockbuster, doesn't feature something at the very end.
So, well done, Marvel, for kick-starting the post-credit scene trend.
Except... they didn't.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been going strong for close to two decades now. It all dates back to 2008's "Iron Man." Directed by Jon Favreau, nobody could have expected Robert Downey Jr.'s turn as Tony Stark to build an empire that has led to well over $30 billion at the global box office, with Marvel Studios rapidly approaching its 40th feature film.
Though it may not get much credit, there was a moment in the summer of 2015 when it was clear that the MCU had hit a certain fever pitch with general moviegoers. That moment came when director Peyton Reed's "Ant-Man" hit theaters. By far one of the biggest swings Marvel took in terms of giving a character the spotlight who didn't have a guaranteed audience by any means, it became a sizable hit, taking in $519 million worldwide against a reasonable $130 million budget.

Despite recent reports making the rounds online, Edgar Wright is not attached to direct a remake of The Black Hole for Disney, Collider has learned. Earlier this week, a widely circulated story originating from industry scooper Daniel Richtman and later echoed by World of Reel claimed that Wright was in talks with Disney to helm a new version of the 1979 sci-fi cult film, with a script reportedly being co-written by Wright and Attack the Block’sJoe Cornish. That story, however intriguing it sounded to fans of both Wright and vintage genre cinema, is simply not true. According to reliable sources close to the situation, there is no active deal involving Wright, Cornish, or Disney concerning The Black Hole. Sorry, folks.
The original 1979 film — Disney’s first PG-rated release — was a bold, eerie, and philosophical experiment that gained a cult following in the decades after its release. With existential themes, kitschy-yet-memorable robot designs,...

Gonzalo Fernandez Carmona’s “Almost Cops” has silliness in spades, but it’s not the kind that makes for essential viewing. The amiability and untroubled façade don’t ever pop off the screen as much as the makers might have thought they’d work. It spins around two characters, throws in ample complications and gags, but none register freshly. There’s a heavily borrowed syntax that never breaks out into something staggeringly individualistic and profoundly vital. It remains a perfect example of ambient viewing, saddled with stock-thin characters and petty grievances.
Each has an axe to grind, but all of it comes off as tacky, incredibly cutesy to the point of being pure fluff. Silly writing needs some conviction and heart. The film reaches for it mostly unsuccessfully. The story lacks the edge required to make all the parts sing in tension and provoke a real thrust. Instead, it moves...

In 2025, Jason Isaacs has just about done it all. He delivered a powerhouse performance in one of television's buzziest shows, The White Lotus, joined Maxine Peake for a frighteningly timely historical war drama in Words of War, helped reinvent a Shakespearian classic with Juliet & Romeo, and let loose as a loud-mouth promoter in the boxing drama Heavyweight. One thing he hasn't done yet this year, however, is take on the horror genre. That's about to change in August when Victorian Psycho begins production. Isaacs will share the screen with Longlegs favorite Maika Monroe in the gothic horror film based on the best-selling novel by Virginia Feito. Before he heads to shoot in the U.K. and Ireland, he was able to attend Fan Expo Denver over the weekend, where he provided a light update on the project during a panel moderated by Collider's Maggie Lovitt.

Movies and TV shows about the police, or featuring the police, have been made ever since the medium has been in existence. But I think your opinion on “copagandas” depends on the kind of cop films and shows that you were exposed to growing up. In my case, I think I was introduced to the very concept of law enforcement through Batman: The Animated Series. And even though I didn’t explicitly understand the reason why a vigilante like the Caped Crusader should exist in the first place, I think the notion that the police will not always be there for you when you need them the most was planted in my head. Yeah, some of them will probably help you, but since most of them are as human as the rest of us, and hence susceptible to corruption, they’ll prioritize the rich and powerful over the regular folk.

Director Edgar Wright first made a name for himself with 2004’s Shaun of the Dead, one of the best zombie movies of all time. In an interview, Wright revealed that he intended to cast Kate Winslet in the movie, but fate had other plans as the actress instead opted to star in Jim Carrey‘s Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
The Running Man (new adaptation) director had a very sound reasoning for why Winslet chose Carrey’s movie over Shaun of the Dead, and saved the latter. Here is what Wright had to say about almost casting Winslet in his zombie comedy and why her absence was ultimately for the best.

Stephen King is well known for being very honest about how he feels when movies are made from his books. He has criticized many adaptations, including the famous version of The Shining directed by Stanley Kubrick. Another film he didn’t like at all is The Running Man, a 1987 movie directed by Paul Michael Glaser.
King was so unhappy with The Running Man movie that he asked the studio to remove his name from the advertising. Instead of showing Stephen King as the author, the film credits say it’s based on a book by Richard Bachman, which is actually a fake name King used for some of his novels.
The biggest issue King had was how different the movie was from his original story. The book is dark, serious, and has a grim tone. The movie, however, is lighter and more fun, filled with action and a happy ending.

A few weeks ago, we launched a contest inviting readers to submit personal essays about what’s gone wrong with the movie business—and how it might win back the audiences that seem to have largely abandoned it. Glen Powellhas been arguably the hottest actor in Hollywood the last couple of years. He's about to star in Edgar Wright's remake of The Running Man. However, whether it be thrillers like Hit Man or romantic comedies like Anyone But You, the actor has quite the range. That said, his biggest starring hit to date has been last year’s Twisters. Now, the Powell-led action-adventure is wrangling a new physical media release with its original 1996 classic.

Nearly a month into its theatrical release, Universal's How to Train Your Dragon is still going strong at the box office, having lost very little altitude despite fresh reptilian competition last week. The movie faced off against fellow Universal release Jurassic World Rebirth, which delivered a massive haul in its opening weekend. How to Train Your Dragon retained a spot in the top five list, as it passed one of the McU's earliest off-beat hits at the global box office. The movie in question is the first Ant-Man, which debuted at a rather prosperous time for the franchise, when it seemed like it couldn't put a foot wrong.

Glen Powell will take the lead in the upcoming The Running Man remake, which will have Edgar Wright at the helm. However, the dystopian action, which is based on Stephen King's 1982 novel, was previously adapted in 1987, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Since it was in production, Schwarzenegger was aware of what was going on. Glen Powell even highlighted that the Terminator actor gave his "blessing" for the remake. The upcoming adaptation won't only have Schwarzenegger's blessing because the upcoming The Running Man also pays tribute to Paul Michael Glaser's 1987 original actor and features a blink-and-you-missed-it cameo of Schwarzenegger in teh trailer.
The dystopian action film follows a game show named The Running Man. The contestants are usually in need of money, which they can only win if they can escape the murderous Hunters that are chasing them around the world to stop them from winning over a period of 30 days.

Glen Powell is sprinting headfirst into The Running Man, the upcoming Edgar Wright directorial, which is a high-octane adaptation of Stephen King’s eponymous novel. Even after the trailer drop, we are hoping that the movie won’t be completely true to its source material, especially when it comes to the ending.

To understand this concern, you’ll first have to know about the book’s haunting and grim ending. Glen Powell leads this more faithful version of ‘The Running Man’, a deadly chase turned into the biggest TV show.
The countdown has begun. The first official trailer for ‘The Running Man‘, directed by Edgar Wright and starring Glen Powell, is here. The film, based on the 1982 novel written by Stephen King under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, plunges us into a dystopian future where survival becomes the ultimate television spectacle.
In this version more faithful to the book than the 1987 Schwarzenegger film, Powell plays Ben Richards, a desperate man trying to save his sick daughter who signs up as a contestant on ‘The Running Man‘, a deadly live broadcast game. For 30 days, Richards must survive while being hunted by professional killers across the country. Alongside him is a heavyweight cast: Josh Brolin, Colman Domingo, and Michael Cera.

We have finally been gifted with the first footage from Hot Fuzz and Baby Driver director Edgar Wright’s remake of the Stephen King classic, The Running Man. And while fans have no doubt been pouring over the surprisingly action-packed footage looking for clues and Easter eggs, there is one major cameo you definitely missed. He’s always promising that he’ll be back...
After fans quickly noticed the glorious sight of action movie icon and Hollywood legend Arnold Schwarzenegger adoring some The Running Man universe’s money (and looking very presidential while doing so), fans have since taken to social media to celebrate the cameo, with some taking it as a great sign of what’s to come in the remake.
“Already can tell the production and art design team absolutely Crushed #RunningManMovie. Look at their ode to 1987’s runner, Arnold Schwarzenegger!” said X/Twitter user and critic @Lulamaybelle,...

The Running Man is back in cinemas this winter, only this time, Edgar Wright has made it. Here’s the trailer.
This November sees the release of The Running Man courtesy of Paramount Pictures, marking Edgar Wright’s follow-up to 2021’s Last Night In Soho and adding yet another spin on a Stephen King novel to the glut of adaptations that we’ve been getting lately.
Stephen King’s novel is a pretty dark affair. He even wrote it under the pseudonym of Richard Bachman, a pen name that allowed him to exercise a more cynical and nasty streak to his work. While that may yet prove to be the case with the final film, the first trailer is presented in a hyper-kinetic style with several signature Edgar Wright flourishes. In short, it looks like it’s going to be a good time at the movies.

The name’s Dickinson… Harris Dickinson.
Yep, it’s time for Tom Holland and Jacob Elordi to move over, because there’s a new 007 favorite in town—and he’s got the odds to prove it. As Amazon gears up for its big James Bond reboot, they’ve already locked in a top-tier director—Dune and Blade Runner 2049 genius Denis Villeneuve. But the bigger question on everyone’s mind is—who will become the next Bond?
Enter Harris Dickinson, The King’s Man and Babygirl actor, who now has 5/2 odds of being the next suave spy. That means he’s currently leading the race, leaving behind some pretty big names, including MCU’s Tom Holland and Euphoria star Jacob Elordi. Even previous fan-favorites like Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Jack Lowden have slipped down the ranks.
It’s a surprising shake-up, but one that fans seem to be excited about.
